Abstract:Subdivision curves are always generated by repeated approximation or interpolation from an initial control polygon.A new geometric subdivision scheme is proposed for curve design by corner cutting.Instead of cutting corners by beeline,every corner is cut by a polyline.It is shown that curves generated by this scheme have the similar properties such as convexity preserving property,convex hull property as Bezier curves.Several parameters are used for the control of the subdivision process,and the influence of every parameter is local.It is shown that the subdivision curve is C~1 when the parameters lie within a certain range.Moreover,circles can be generated by the new scheme explicitly.

Abstract:Bézier curves have many applications in CAD field, especially in computer graphics, however there lacks fine and rapid drawing approach of it. A fast method for drawing Bézier curves is presented. By using de Casteljau algorithm, we first adaptively divide the curve into some monotone sub-curves with definite directions, then generate the eight-joined object lattice directly.

Abstract:A class of spacial curves are defined over the algebraic-trigonometric space ?=span{1,θ ···, θm+1,sinθ,cosθ,θsinθ,···,θncosθ}.By choosing proper integral kernels,the projection of the spacial integral curve on the xy-plane has intrinsic definition,or the whole spacial curve is a PH curve.The Cartesian coordinates of the curve can be explicitly evaluated by integrals of the predefined kernels. Besides, techniques of interpolation of integral curves with different integral kernels have been studied. Given the boundary data, the coefficients within the kernel functions are obtained by solving a system. Finally, we use PH curves to design a family of frames, which can be used to construct a rational swept surface. Experimental results show that the piecewise swept surface is G1continuous at the ridge line and is nearly G1continuous at the remaining junctions.

Abstract:C-Bézier curves are an extension of cubic Bézier curves. In addition to having many properties that Bézier curves have, they have the adjustable shape parameter, α, and can represent arcs precisely. This paper presents the subdivision algorithm and G1 condition of C-Bézier curves based on the analysis of C-Bézier basis functions and terminal properties. The results have definite geometric meanings that are useful for the shape modification and representation of C-Bézier curves. The results can also be extended to surface modeling with C-Bézier.

Abstract:Methods for curve modeling with cubic algebraic curves based on geometric constraints are introduced in this paper. A 1-parameter family of cubic curves with four given points as well as two tangent lines at the endpoints is constructed in the first part of the paper. A 1-parameter family and 2-parameter family of cubic curve constructions are presented for interpolating two given endpoints and two given tangent lines as well as two given curvatures at the endpoints in the last part of the paper.

Abstract:In this paper, we improve the generalized Bernstein basis functions introduced by Han, et al. The new basis functions not only inherit the most properties of the classical Bernstein basis functions, but also reserve the shape parameters that are similar to the shape parameters of the generalized Bernstein basis functions. The degree elevation algorithm and the conversion formulae between the new basis functions and the classical Bernstein basis functions are obtained. Also the new Q-Bézier curve and surface constructed by the new basis functions are given and their properties are discussed.

Abstract:In curve and surface modeling, Bernstein polynomial compositions are widely used for various geometric operations. So it is important to investigate them both in theory and practice. The problems are investigated by using polynomial interpolation and symbolic computation, and the proposed method is applied for curve and surface cases. Compared with two existing methods, the proposed method has the advantages on computational cost, coding efficiency, storage cost. However its numerical accuracy is lower than the method based on the generalized de Casteljau algorithm.

Abstract:Combining the concept of weights in rational curves with singular blending technique, we have generalized Bezier curve to a generalized Bezier curve denoted as a -Bezier curve. Its shape-control capability is much better than that of Bezier curve; thus, ? Bezier curve is more useful in free curve and surface designing. Bezier curve can be converted into an a Bezier curve by adding blending parameter to control vertices of Bezier curve. The properties of a Bezier curve are studied in details, and the effects of the blending parameters are investigated. By varying the blending parameters the curve can be reshaped, so it is brightly useful in the applications of CAD/CAM.

Abstract:As an extension to parametric design based on points, lines and circles, an approach to parametric design is presented, which are plane curves based. The new concepts of curves parametric design, curves dimension and curves' control polygon analogy degree are given. The inner relationships among the modules of the curves parametric design are described. Some curve expressions are proposed which are suitable for variation geometry, including basic line element, conic line of cut and basic modeling curve etc.. And the constraint relationships between curves, the satisfaction methods for some constraints are also given. An algorithm to build the order of constraints satisfaction is proposed. Finally, an example for parametric design which utilizing the above-mentioned idea is given, and the research direction is pointed out.

Abstract:Ball basis was introduced for cubic polynomials by Ball, and was generalized for polynomials of higher degree by Wang and Said. In this paper, we investigate degree elevation and reduction, recursive algorithm, enveloping theorem, and Bézier representation of these two generalized Ball curves. Abstract:Highlights • This paper presents a class of 3D Bézier curves of arbitrary degree with monotone curvature. • It is a generalization of planar typical curves by Mineur et al. • The sufficient condition for the proposed aesthetic Bézier curves is given and proved. • Several examples are given to demonstrate that the new approach is effective and practical. This paper introduces a special class of 3D Bézier curves that are defined by their degree, a starting point, the first leg of their control polygons, and a 3D affine transformation composing of a uniform scaling and a rotation. We present new formulas for the curvature of such Bézier curves and based on the new formulas we derive sufficient conditions for the curves to have monotonic curvature. The conditions are expressed by a simple constraint on the rotation angle and the scaling factor. This facilitates constructing 3D Class A Bézier curves that are a generalization of planar typical curves proposed by Mineur et al. (1998), which are often used in automotive and other design applications. Some examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our construction.
