Abstract:This study proposes new methods for finding frequency-dependent network equivalents of power systems. Since stability of the time-domain solution is a major concern, additional constraints are added to ensure the stability in both single-port and multi-port network equivalents. For single-port problem, an equivalent circuit consisting of only passive elements is estimated to ensure passivity and, consequently, stability of the time-domain solution. For multi-port case, additional stable branches are added to fit the frequency response data with high accuracy while maintaining stability of the equivalent. Several case studies are considered to evaluate the performance of the proposed approaches. The simulation results prove the efficacy of the proposed methods for finding stable equivalent circuits with high accuracy.

Abstract:Uniform network partition is a type of network partitioning problem that consists of dividing a network into components, such that the components are of about the same size and there are few connections between the components. This paper presents a network partition method using dichotomy based on a criterion called sub network exchange gain. We put forward the network fragmentation degree to evaluate the efficiency of a network. Using dichotomy with the criterion of sub network exchange gain, we proved that a network can be split into two communities totally by cutting the least connecting lines.

Abstract:In this article, a generalized transfer scattering analysis algorithm of arbitrarily connected multiport network is presented. We define each circuit element by linear equations that relate incident and reflected waves at output ports to the incident and reflected waves at input ports. To ensure the uniqueness and solvability of the system of equations for nonsymmetric multiports connection, additional wave variables are introduced. The matrix of coefficients of the system of equations is called the extended transfer scattering matrix (T-matrix). In general, n-port extended T-matrix is nonsquare and consists of more than $n\ttimes n$ parameters. The analysis of the network is conducted by successive multiplication of component T-matrices. Numerically the method is efficient, explicit, easy to implement, and parallelize. It outperforms other analysis methods in large network synthesis. The transfer approach also makes finding a solution analytically simpler.

Abstract:The invention provides a network layout method and system based on a segmentation drawing method and a medium. The network layout method comprises the following steps: a graph segmentation step: segmenting a whole graph by using a heuristic algorithm according to original data to obtain a plurality of sub-graphs; an inter-block layout step: generating an inter-block layout of the sub-graph based on the force guidance model of the graph layout according to the segmentation result; a sub-graph layout step: respectively laying out the sub-graphs by using the force guidance model to obtain an optimal sub-graph layout; a splicing step: splicing the sub-images according to the inter-block layout of the sub-images to obtain an initial finished image; and an adjustment step: adjusting the layout of initial mapping according to the force guidance model to obtain an optimal full-graph layout. According to the method, the super-large-scale network is laid out based on the segmentation drawing method, so that the data volume capable of being processed by a network layout algorithm is greatly improved, and the million-order barrier of a network visualization algorithm is broken through.

Abstract:A new self-organizing neural network model is presented, which can get rid of some fatal defects facing the Kohonen self-organizing neural network, known as the slow training speed, difficulty in designing neighboring zone, and disability to deal with area constraints directly. Based on the new neural network, a new approach for performance-driven system partitioning on MCM is presented. In the algorithm, the total routing cost between the chips and the circle time are both minimized, while satisfying area and timing constraints. The neural network has a reasonable structure and its training speed is high. The algorithm is able to deal with the large scale, circuit partitioning, and has total optimization effect. The algorithm is programmed with Visual C++ language, and experimental result shows that it is an effective method.

Abstract:Traffic network simulation describes movement behaviors and track of individual vehicles. When network is scale-up, the process takes more time and computing resources. Moreover, computing capacity of single processor computer cannot)satisfy simulation requirement. A distributed and parallel computing approach to such a large-scale traffic system might be economical and efficient. This paper designs framework of parallel traffic simulation system by using domain decomposition method according to parallel characteristics of traffic network simulation, in other words, traffic network is partitioned to several sub-networks, and each processor of clusters is responsible for a different sub-network of the simulated region. A network-partition algorithm based on the number of vehicle is used to optimize load balancing. Information exchange mechanism between sub-networks is described. The developed parallel simulation system is implemented in parallel computing platform based on Message Passing Interface. From the results of numerical example, the proposed parallel simulation algorithm can improve speed and efficiency of traffic network simulation. This algorithm provides a foundation for larger scale traffic network simulation and real-time applications.

Abstract:We study multiport networks, common in electrical engineering. They have boundary conditions different from electrical networks: the boundary vertices are split into pairs and the sum of the incoming currents is set to be zero in each pair. If one sets the voltage difference for each pair, then the incoming currents are uniquely determined. We generalize Kirchhoff's matrix-tree theorem to this setup. Different forests now contribute with different signs, making the proof subtle. In particular, we use the formula for the response matrix minors by R. Kenyon-D. Wilson, determinantal identities, and combinatorial bijections. We introduce superport networks, generalizing both ordinary networks and multiport ones.

Abstract:To overcome the disadvantages of the existing network control methods, a new control method for large-scale network based on routing diffusion is presented. This paper studies its overall structure of network topology, the selection of dynamic routing protocols as well as configuration, and compares this method with the existing methods in detail. With the advantages of less router load, more control rules, intelligence, scalability, multiple routers becoming effective by configuring only one router, and so on, the new method is adapted to large-scale network control.
An Efficient Benders Decomposition Approach for Optimal Large-Scale Network Slicing

Abstract:This paper considers the network slicing (NS) problem which attempts to map multiple customized virtual network requests to a common shared network infrastructure and allocate network resources to meet diverse service requirements. This paper proposes an efficient customized Benders decomposition algorithm for globally solving the large-scale NP-hard NS problem. The proposed algorithm decomposes the hard NS problem into two relatively easy function placement (FP) and traffic routing (TR) subproblems and iteratively solves them enabling the information feedback between each other, which makes it particularly suitable to solve large-scale problems. Specifically, the FP subproblem is to place service functions into cloud nodes in the network, and solving it can return a function placement strategy based on which the TR subproblem is defined; and the TR subproblem is to find paths connecting two nodes hosting two adjacent functions in the network, and solving it can either verify that the solution of the FP subproblem is an optimal solution of the original problem, or return a valid inequality to the FP subproblem that cuts off the current infeasible solution. The proposed algorithm is guaranteed to find the globally optimal solution of the NS problem. By taking the special structure of the NS problem into consideration, we successfully develop two families of valid inequalities that render the proposed algorithm converge much more quickly and thus much more efficient. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed valid inequalities effectively accelerate the convergence of the decomposition algorithm, and the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the existing algorithms in terms of both solution efficiency and quality.

Hierarchical Network Partitioning for Solution of Potential-Driven, Steady-State Nonlinear Network Flow Equations

Abstract:Potential-driven steady-state flow in networks is an abstract problem which manifests in various engineering applications, such as transport of natural gas, water, electric power through infrastructure networks or flow through fractured rocks modelled as discrete fracture networks. In general, while the problem is simple when restricted to a single edge of a network, it ceases to be so for a large network. The resultant system of nonlinear equations depends on the network topology and in general there is no numerical algorithm that offers guaranteed convergence to the solution (assuming a solution exists). Some methods offer guarantees in cases where the network topology satisfies certain assumptions but these methods fail for larger networks. On the other hand, the Newton-Raphson algorithm offers a convergence guarantee if the starting point lies close to the (unknown) solution. It would be advantageous to compute the solution of the large nonlinear system through the solution of smaller nonlinear sub-systems wherein the solution algorithms (Newton-Raphson or otherwise) are more likely to succeed. This article proposes and describes such a procedure, an hierarchical network partitioning algorithm that enables the solution of large nonlinear systems corresponding to potential-driven steady-state network flow equations.

Abstract:Parallel computational operations can significantly enhance network computational efficiency, and such processing has a wide range of applications across different spatial scales in networks. However, in the stage-wise level of networks, the majority still defaults to maintaining a serial single-chain structure. We propose a method of splitting across the depth dimension in multiple consecutive stacked computational units, extending such parallel computational operations to the stage-wise level of the network. This type of processing does not introduce excessive computational latency at the network stage level, and the additional computation primarily comes from the Fusion structures between different branches and the widened stage Transition layers. However, due to the relatively small proportion of this additional computational load compared to the entire network and its ease of maintenance, it is manageable. Compared to the performance of a single chain network scaled in depth, the introduction of parallel structures compresses its depth and diversifies the width of the network stage level. Improved the relationship between the initial network's accuracy and computational efficiency within a certain range. Through subsequent improvements to the stage transition layers and the introduction of branch attention, the performance of the parallelized structure can be further enhanced. In conclusion, our approach provides a viable practice for introducing parallel structures within the stage level of stage-wise networks. By transforming the original serial structure of continuously stacked computational units in the stage level into a parallel structure with multiple subnets, we can achieve superior overall performance compared to the original network within a certain range. A Method for Parallelizing Traffic Network Simulation Based on Space Domain Decomposition

Abstract:In order to speed up traffic network microscopic simulation,the model and implementation of traffic micro-simulation with parallel computing techniques were suggested to reduce the time spent in simulation computation based on a cluster of workstations.The parallelization method is a space domain decomposition,which means that each workstation of the cluster is responsible for a different geographical area of the simulated region.The way how information between the domains is exchanged and how transportation network graph is partitioned were also described.The parallel traffic simulation method was tested on five scenario networks of different size.The computational results indicate that the parallel implementation based on cluster performs better than the sequential computation and the time taken to run simulation is reduced greatly,up to average 62.9% timesaving,though trade-offs between communication(overheads) and computational savings become critical with the number of processors.This suggests that the threshold number of processors for optimal computational performance depends on the specific problem and its solution logic.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a mathematical model for calculating the steady state performance of congested networks with large number of TCP flows. Marking probability, average queue length, bandwidth and RTT are connected by a group of nonlinear equations. We transform these equations into a constrained optimization problem, which is then solved by SQP algorithm, a robust method for the optimization with inequality constraints. Numerical results with Matlab and simulation results with NS-2 are given to validate the accuracy of the model and algorithm. We study the relationship between the calculation time and congestion network parameters, and provide a good estimation of calculation time at different network scale. It is helpful for network pricing system.

Abstract:The coexistence of various protocols for current networks leads to extremely complex network systems,which not only limits the development of network technologies,but also cannot meet the growing demands for cloud computing,big data,service visualization applications,etc.With the development of information telecommunication technology,decreasing hardware costs,and the rise of open source packages,network systems have become more dynamic and flexible,and network service providers expect easier access to the information technology market.A new business model and collaborative competition must be formed.However,current network systems are becoming increasingly complex,which also increases project and societal complexity.The attributes of multi-field,dynamicity,and unpredictability lead network systems to be massively complex,making it difficult to comprehensively evaluate and accurately amend their schema.Therefore,as a new network architecture,parallel network is expected to revolutionize the current network situation and meet the evolving demand for network services.The core idea of parallel networking is to construct artificial networks and effectively optimize the network system operations via the interactions between real networks and artificial networks.Through computational experiments and analysis of the artificial networks,a control strategy based on network traffic flow can be continuously tracked and updated in real-time.Meanwhile,the collected operating status of the real network can also be used to optimize the model of the artificial network.These strategies can be applied to all types of network equipment to control network operations.Therefore,it is possible to allocate network resources more effectively,to improve the management and utilization of resources,and to provide new network solutions to address changing network demands more effectively.
Synergistic partitioning in multiple large scale social networks

Abstract:Social networks have been part of people's daily life and plenty of users have registered accounts in multiple social networks. Interconnections among multiple social networks add a multiplier effect to social applications when fully used. With the sharp expansion of network size, traditional standalone algorithms can no longer support computing on large scale networks while alternatively, distributed and parallel computing become a solution to utilize the data-intensive information hidden in multiple social networks. As such, synergistic partitioning, which takes the relationships among different networks into consideration and focuses on partitioning the same nodes of different networks into same partitions. With that, the partitions containing the same nodes can be assigned to the same server to improve the data locality and reduce communication overhead among servers, which are very important for distributed applications. To date, there have been limited studies on multiple large scale network partitioning due to three major challenges: 1) the need to consider relationships across multiple networks given the existence of intricate interactions, 2) the difficulty for standalone programs to utilize traditional partitioning methods, 3) the fact that to generate balanced partitions is NP-complete. In this paper, we propose a novel framework to partition multiple social networks synergistically. In particular, we apply a distributed multilevel k-way partitioning method to divide the first network into k partitions. Based on the given anchor nodes which exist in all the social networks and the partition results of the first network, using MapReduce, we then develop a modified distributed multilevel partitioning method to divide other networks. Extensive experiments on two real data sets demonstrate that our method can significantly outperform baseline independent-partitioning method in accuracy and scalability.

Abstract:In order to realize the high-efficiency and automatic network partition of dc power systems that contain a large number of switches, this paper presents a hierarchical partition method. It consists of two layers. The first layer is the partition into sub-systems, its optimality criteria are optimal trade-off between the effects of uneven switch distribution and the number of cutting branches, then, a method of transferring switch nodes between the adjacent sub-systems is used. The second layer is the partition into sub-networks, its optimality criteria are optimal trade-off between the effects of uneven switch distribution and the number of state-space-nodal (SSN) nodes, then, the method of merging adjacent switch nodes at multiple points simultaneously is adopted. Further, a complete set of automatic hierarchical network partition method of dc power system is formed. Finally, a typical MVDC integrated power system and a modified 39-bus dc power system are taken as the examples to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Real-time simulation performance shows that the proposed method can significantly reduce the simulation step, balance the consumed simulation resources and improve the partition efficiency compared with traditional methods.

Abstract:For multi-area interconnected power networks, each subarea may be operated by independent regulator, who oppose to open the access of private information such as network topology to the others. For this case, this study proposes a decomposition-coordination strategy to calculate power transfer limit (PTL) considering both saddle node bifurcation (SNB) and limit-induced bifurcation (LIB). The external coordination equations are derived based on the sensitivity analysis of boundary buses at tie-lines, to express the power exchange of subareas and the consistent boundary state variables. Power Flow (PF) results for each subarea system are separately calculated followed by the adjustment of tie-lines’ PF injected into boundary buses according to the external coordination. Then the alternation between internal and external iterations, for which operators of subareas are not required to share private network information, could generate the same results as conventional PF that relies on the complete information. Moreover, an improved Continuation PF (CPF) model that includes the prediction of the PF of area tie-lines is proposed. The point of collapse (POC) method is employed to calculate PTL involving the SNB of the interconnected networks to improve the accuracy of the algorithm. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method.

An Improved Single Loop Algorithm in Network Reconfiguration

Abstract:Network reconfiguration is an important tool in achieving economical and high quality operation in the distribution systems. But network reconfiguration belongs to a kind of complicated combinatorial optimization problem, it is hard to get an optimal network configuration at a feasible computer time when network scale is very large. As a result, network reconfiguration is usually used at the planning stage and not suitable for the real-time operational stage. This paper presents an improved single loop algorithm for quickly solving the distribution network reconfiguration problem. The problem formula is simplified, the complexity of the problem is decreased greatly and huge computation time is saved. Furthermore, an optimal transfer load algorithm is developed to easily determine the branch exchange with the maximum power loss reduction in the loop without calculating power loss reductions of all relevant branch exchanges. Two test systems are studied with the proposed approach. Test results not only have proved the validity and high efficiency of the proposed method but also indicate that the proposed method is suitable for real time control in large-scale real distribution systems.

Abstract:Recently, it has been shown that Macroscopic Fundamental Diagrams(MFDs) existing in large scale urban traffic networks paly an important role in dynamic traffic management, traffic signal control and mitigation of urban traffic congestion. A well defined MFD can be derived from a homogeneous urban traffic network with similar traffic conditions. In reality, however, most large scale traffic networks are usually heterogeneous networks with various road types and uneven distribution of congestion. In order to use the MFD concept for controlling the large scale urban traffic network through hierarchical or decentralized methods, it is necessary to exploit a network partition method, which should be both effective in extracting homogeneous sub-networks and fast to compute. In this paper, a new approach to calculate the correlation degree, which describes the traffic conditions between two adjacent intersections quantitatively, is first proposed. Then, a fast network division approach by optimizing the modularity, which is a criterion to distinguish the quality of the partition results, is applied to identify the homogeneous sub-networks for large scale urban traffic networks. Finally, an application to a specified urban traffic network is investigated by using the proposed algorithm. The results show that it is an effective and efficient method for partitioning heterogeneous urban traffic networks automatically.
