Abstract:In order to make reference in choosing different memory mechanisms in early stage of multiprocessor design process,we integrated two kinds of memory mechanisms(shared and distributed memories) into Simulink-based MPSoC design flow to evaluate the performance for both mechanisms.In Motion-JPEG decoder case study,the developing time for Global FIFO(GFIFO),which represented for GSM,is less than DMS,which represented DSM.DMS decreased execution time and communication time compared to GFIFO.We can make accurate decisions in early multiprocessors design stages based on the results.

Abstract:A simultaneous reconfigurable multi-chip access bus interface for application in high-bandwidth multi-drop parallel interconnections such as a memory bus has been developed. The interface utilizes a source synchronous signaling and direct-sequence code-division multiple access (CDMA) technique for high bus concurrency and low channel latency. The prototype chip, fabricated in 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS and tested in a 10-cm test board achieves a data rate of 2 Gb/s/pin with multiple access and re-configurability between four (2-to-2) off-chip I/Os.

Abstract:The paper introduces the research trend for the access bottleneck between the data intensive computing architecture and memory. Aiming at the high needs for the data intensive computing architecture’s access to memory, an integrated DDR SDRAM controller is presented and prototyped in FPGA. The key points for the DDR SDRAM controller are a fixed initiation procedure and its dedicated custom system bus. Simulation results and analysis demonstrate the controller basically conquers the access bottleneck between the data intensive computing architecture and memory.

Abstract:According to the harsh desire to share memory of multi-processors system on chip, this paper presents a switch-based Dual-Shared DRAM Controller (DSMC). The DSMC is composed of center control module. two IP(interface to processor) module, two ID(interface to DRAM) module, CM(Clock Manager) module, and IR(initialize and refresh) module. It use two memories as shared memory and resolves conflicts which may occur when two processors access the same memory, and actualizes every control to DRAM, such as initializing, refreshing, reading and writing. At last, it makes two processors access the shared memories coinstantaneous at will.

Abstract:Compute Express Link (CXL) is a rapidly emerging coherent interconnect standard that provides opportunities for memory pooling and sharing. Memory sharing is a well-established software feature that improves memory utilization by avoiding unnecessary data movement. In this paper, we discuss multiple approaches to enable memory sharing with different generations of CXL protocol (i.e., CXL 2.0 and CXL 3.0) considering the challenges with each of the architectures from the device hardware and software viewpoint.

Abstract:This paper designs a UHF 6C tag with SPI interface to extend its application .The designed passive tag not only can be configured by MCU but also can access the external memory by SPI interface .In this paper ,the working flow of tag under two modes which means the communication with MCU or external memory by SPI interface and the specific design of digital processor are analyzed in detail .The tag can carry external memory and can achieve high-capacity data storage capabilities .According to the function ,baseband is realized by Verilog and the chip is fabricated with NEC13 process .The final area of baseband is only 515 μm × 380 μm .

Abstract:This paper presents a security design for embedded systems that have a secure on-chip computing environment and an insecure off-chip memory. The design protects the confidentiality and integrity of data at a low cost on performance and memory consumption. We implemented the design based on the SimpleScalar simulation software. Our simulation on a set of benchmarks shows that very little overhead is incurred for on-chip memory, and the average overheads on performance and off-chip memory, are only 7.6% and 6.25%, respectively.

Abstract:A fully synthesizable embedded memory management unit (MMU) was designed using application specific methodology, which consisted of two-level translation look-aside buffer (TLB), with the separate multi-way associative L1 micro-instruction TLB (μITLB) and micro-data TLB (μDTLB) located above the fully associative L2 joint TLB (JTLB). The μILTB and μDTLB query can be accomplished at high speed, while the JTLB can use multi-cycle to fulfill the embedded processor's speed requirement. Results of benchmarking consumer and telecom applications in MiBench on the 32-bit embedded core CK520 simulation platform showed that cycle-accurate system performance degrades by less than 3.8% compared with corresponding one level fully associative TLB, and that the area of CK520 embedded core integrated MMU increases by 7.6% and the speed is more than 230 MHz.

Abstract:In video encoder chip, memory interface design is a must to transfer various data between the encoder pipeline and the off-chip memory. Reducing the required off-chip memory bandwidth and improving the memory access efficiency are the two key targets for optimized memory interface design. To achieve these two targets, three novel technologies are proposed in Level C+ coding order based AVS HD video encoder. Firstly, an improved Level C+ coding order with necessary NOP insertions are proposed to achieve 61% bandwidth reduction and make MB pipeline scheduling regular. Secondly, MB-level synchronous memory interface design is proposed by trading off external bandwidth, MB pipeline structure, and internal buffer size. Finally, address mapping and arbitration are proposed to improve the access efficiency by 12%. The optimized memory interface design is successfully implemented on our 1080P@45fps AVS encoder with Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA at an operating frequency of 200 MHz.

Abstract:In order to reduce the delay time of a TMS320C6713 DSP based digital control system,this paper represents a high speed data exchange board,which includes a 16-bit,40MHz sample rate ADC and a 16-bit,40MHz update rate DAC.The control signals transmission and data access between DSP and Data Exchange Board can be easily achieved through EMIF.It is shown that the time delay of the digital control system can be as low as 1.1μs.

Abstract:In the semiconductor storage domain, the swift advancement of Static Random-Access Memory (SRAM) has been significantly accelerated by the extensive adoption of sophisticated SRAM Compiler tools. These instruments enable the rapid generation of tailor-made SRAM memory arrays, effectively addressing specific design requirements. Nonetheless, the development of comparable compiler technologies for other types of memory, such as Multiple-Time Programmable (MTP) memory, has been notably absent. Our study fills this void by introducing a groundbreaking MTP Compiler that is both parameter-driven and compatible across different processes. Leveraging the capabilities of the TED electronic design automation tool, this innovative compiler facilitates the expedited production of MTP circuits and layouts for a broad spectrum of capacities, catering to diverse design needs. Its adaptable architecture is especially proficient at accommodating changes in process nodes, significantly reducing the time and effort required for the development of MTP memory technologies. This advancement streamlining the path from concept to production for MTP memories.

Abstract:TMS320C6678 is a high-performance multicore DSP of Texas Instruments.This device can run at a core speed up to 1.25 GHz.In order to provide certain conditions for the DSP to work properly,some auxiliary controls are needed.The EVM for C6678 has provided a solution of auxiliary controls based on FPGA,which involves high developing costs of both hardware and software.In this paper,we proposed an auxiliary control system cored by a single-chip microcontroller.Considering that the external interrupt source of a single-chip microcontroller is limited, we utilized two logic gates to monitor the power-good signals and the reset request signals.However,there is the issue of electronic characteristic matching between the microcontroller and the DSP.We took advantage of the open-drain output characteristic of the microcontroller and involved a level shifter to solve the problem.Eventually,the new auxiliary control system was successfully applied to a TMS320C6678 system.Both hardware and software design of the new auxiliary control system were described detailedly.

Abstract:Digital signal processors (DSP) play an important role in signal processing, wireless communication and many other fields. With the improvement of DSP's computing performance, memory architecture became the neck of the whole DSP's efficiency. A new memory architecture which can be accessed by two computation slots, DMA controller, debug module and wishbone bus in parallel is presented in this paper. Our data memory capacity is 1MB and instruction memory capacity is 256KB. After synthesized, placed, and routed in a commercial 65nm low power process, the area of our data memory is about 8, 600, 600μm2, and the area of our instruction memory is about 2, 140, 000μm2. The delay result of our data memory is 1.65ns (SS), and the delay result of our instruction memory is 1.78ns (SS).

Abstract:Custom memory organization are challenging task in the area of VLSI design. This study aims to design high speed and low power consumption memory for embedded system. Synchronous SRAM has been proposed and analyzed using various simulators. Xilinx simulator simulates the Synchronous SRAM memories which can perform efficient read/write capability for embedded systems. Xinix tool also provide the access time that required selecting a word and reading it. Synchronous Static RAM which has easily read /writes capability and performs scheduled read /writes operation in efficient manner.

Abstract:A minimal TMS320VC5410 development system was designed. The minimal system adopts dual processors DSP+MCS51 and implements high-speed communication with a PC using SPI serial communication protocol. The system has a high-speed data acquisition module, and an extended FLASH memory. The system can operate stand-alone and bootload the user code from the FLASH memory during power up. The system carries out real-time emulation under CCS2.0 + USB1.1 environment.
