Abstract:Dissolved gas-in-oil analysis (DGA) is one of the most useful methods to detect transformer incipient faults. Among the diverse conventional DGA methods, IEC three-ratio method is widely used, but in many cases this method can not accurately diagnose(such as no matching, multiple faults). This paper proposes a fuzzy three-ratio method; it is considered that the drawbacks of the conventional three-ratio method lie in: when the ratio crosses the coding boundary, codes change sharply, but in reality the boundary should be fuzzied. Based on this assumption, this paper first propose the fuzzy membership functions for codes "zero", "one", "two", then it transfer the conventional logic "AND" and "OR" used in IEC three-ratio method into fuzzy logic and put forward the diagnosing steps of this method. Simulation proves the proposed method can overcome the drawbacks of the conventional three-ratio method that can not diagnose multi-fault and no matching codes for diagnosis, thus, it greatly enhanced diagnosing accuracy

Abstract:Fault tree analysis is the most commonly used methodology in industrial safety analysis to predict the probability or frequency of system failure. Although fault tree analysis has been proposed for more than six decades, the assumptions used in most commercial fault tree analysis codes have not changed significantly, which limits the ability of the method to represent design, operation, and maintenance characteristics in the context of the increasing complexity and specialization of modern industrial systems. The basic setup of traditional fault trees is unable to include dependencies between events, time-varying failures, and repair rate realities to explain complex maintenance strategies. To address the above shortcomings, we propose a fusion tree model combining fault tree and attack tree, and simplify the causal structure of the fusion tree by modularization, and utilize the dynamic Markov model to represent the complex coupling relationship between components or nodes. Finally, we demonstrate the calculation process of fusion tree in pressure vessel systems with temporal control.

Abstract:The reliability analysis of the blow-down water tunnel is accomplishe.Firstly,the fault tree of the blow-down water tunnel is obtained based upon the structure analysis of the system.Secondly,the fault tree is qualitatively analyzed by using the least cut set method and all possible failure modes of the system are got.Thirdly,the reliability and the importance indexes of the bottom events of the control system are calculated.At last,the methods to calculate the reliability of the system and the importance indexes of the bottom events are obtained,and the faults in the one order least cut set are the weakest ones of the system.And then,several suggestions are presented for improving the reliability of the system.

Abstract:Principle Component Analysis (PCA) is an effective way not only to eliminate correlation among process variables and reduce the influence of noise and disturbance on system, but also to reserve enough information of original data characteristics needed for modeling a industrial complex process. Based on principle component model, detection and diagnosis analysis is carried out on a typical Heavy Oil Fractionator with multivariate statistical techniques such as Q residuals plot, Retelling T2 plot, principle scores plot and contributions plot. In addition, mean contributions curve is used instead of common contribution histogram to diagnose the source cause of faults.

Abstract:Fault tree is a powerful tool for depicting the logical relationships between the faults in system. However, for a sophisticated reliability system, like power transformer, fault analysis is hard or infeasible because of the complexities of the equipment configuration and its faults. In this paper, a fault tree analysis (FTA) method combined with failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) is presented and applied to the fault tree analysis of large-scale power transformer. In this combinatorial method, FMEA gives aid to the construction of fault tree and provides probability data of element events for quantitative analysis in FTA. The combinatorial fault tree method is helpful for the reliability analysis of a sophisticated system.

Abstract:According to the fuzzy characteristics,the main faults and the failure causes of the bolted flanged connections,the leakage failure of the connections was considered to be the top event and a fault tree was constructed.The established fault tree was analyzed based on fuzzy set theory and each basic event was considered to be a triangular fuzzy number.The minimal cut set of the top event was obtained by using Fussel algorithm,and the fuzzy probability of the top event and its membership function at different confidence levels were obtained.The Median method for analyzing fuzzy importance was introduced into the fault tree analysis of bolted flanged connections and the fuzzy importance of each basic event was calculated at the minimal λ-cut set level of the top event.The factors with a great effect on the leakage behavior of the connections were obtained and the corresponding measures for preventing and controlling the leakage of the connections were given.

Abstract:Fault tree analysis (FTA) is one of the important analysis methods of safety system engineering commonly utilized in various industries to evaluate and improve the reliability and safety of complex systems. To grasp the current situation and development trend of FTA research and to further point out FTA's future development directions, 1469 FTA-related articles from the literature were retrieved from the SCIE and SSCI databases. Informetric methods, including co-authorship analysis, co-citation analysis and co-occurrence analysis, were adopted for analyzing the cooperation relationship, research knowledge base, research hotspots and frontier in the FTA research field. The results show that China has the highest number of publications, and the Loughborough University of England has the highest number of publications of relevant institutions. Dynamic fault tree analysis, fuzzy fault tree analysis and FTA based on binary decision diagrams are recognized as the knowledge bases in FTA studies. "Reliability Engineering and System Safety", "Safety Science" and "Fuzzy Sets and Systems" are the core journals in this field. Fuzzy fault tree analysis, dynamic fault tree analysis based on Bayesian networks and FTA combined with management factors may be both the main research hotspots and the frontiers. Then, by deriving the above results, this study can help scholars better master the current research status and frontiers of FTA to improve system reliability and safety.

Abstract:Fault tree analysis is a vital method of assessing safety risks. It helps to identify potential causes of accidents, assess their likelihood and severity, and suggest preventive measures. Quantitative analysis of fault trees is often done via the dependability metrics that compute the system's failure behaviour over time. However, the lack of precise data is a major obstacle to quantitative analysis, and so to reliability analysis. Fuzzy logic is a popular framework for dealing with ambiguous values and has applications in many domains. A number of fuzzy approaches have been proposed to fault tree analysis, but -- to the best of our knowledge -- none of them provide rigorous definitions or algorithms for computing fuzzy unreliability values. In this paper, we define a rigorous framework for fuzzy unreliability values. In addition, we provide a bottom-up algorithm to efficiently calculate fuzzy reliability for a system. The algorithm incorporates the concept of $\alpha$-cuts method. That is, performing binary algebraic operations on intervals on horizontally discretised $\alpha$-cut representations of fuzzy numbers. The method preserves the nonlinearity of fuzzy unreliability. Finally, we illustrate the results obtained from two case studies.

Abstract:This paper focuses on employing the fault tree analysis method combined with quantitative analysis to investigate high-speed railway accidents. Specifically, by establishing a fault tree logic diagram based on a high-speed railway accident, an in-depth fault tree analysis combined with quantitative analysis is given to present a more comprehensive view of the accident. In quantitative analysis process, each basic event in the fault tree is endowed with uncertain characteristic due to the incompleteness of the prior information and the complexity of decision environments. With this concern, a novel method within the framework of intuitionistic fuzzy set theory is proposed to handle this problem, in which the failure possibilities of basic events are particularly treated as intuitionistic trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (ITFNs). In addition, a new ranking method for ITFNs is proposed by defining the expected values and compromise possibilities, and is efficiently employed to determine the importance degrees of all basic events. As an application, two numerical experiments are implemented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed fault tree analysis method, and some conclusions and suggestions are also given to decrease the occurrence possibilities of similar accidents.

Abstract:Recently, the reliability analysis of complex engineering systems has been confronted with a range of challenges, including fuzziness, multiple states, and common cause failures. In particular, factors such as changes in the working environment and human error contribute to the fuzzy probability value for each state in the system, which brings great challenges to its reliability analysis. In this paper, a new reliability analysis method for fuzzy multi-state system with common cause failure is proposed, which developed the fault tree analysis method and fuzzy set theory. First, a model integrating common cause failure with fuzzy T-S fault tree analysis model has been illustrated, and the equivalent model is given. Meanwhile, a novel fuzzy arithmetic method based on the weakest n-dimension T-norm is designed to solve the proposed model. Finally, the aircraft power system is analyzed as an example to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The result shows that the proposed method effectively enhances the capacity of failure tree analysis in assessing the reliability of complex systems characterized by multiple states, fuzziness, and common cause failures.

Abstract:In order to solve the complex uncertainties caused by interface between fuzziness and randomness of safety problem for projects of dyke engineering more scientifically and reasonably,this work presents the fuzzy logic modelling of stochastic finite element method(SFEM) based on the harmonious finite element(HFE) technique using first-order approximation theorem.Fuzzy mathematical models of safety repertories was taken into account by stochastic finite element method to analyze the embankment slope stability in order to express the fuzzy failure procedure for the random safety performance function.Fuzzy models were established from membership functions of the half depressed Gamma distribution,the half depressed normal distribution and the half depressed echelon distribution.The local failure mechanism of the main dike section near Jingnan in the Yangtze River was studied comprehensively by the fuzzy-stochastic mathematical algorithm in terms of numerical analysis for the probability integration of the reliability on the random filed affected by three fuzzy factors respectively.The result showed that the dike middle region is the principal concentrated failure zone due to local fractures also the existence of some local shear failure on the dikc crust.This study provides a better method for solving the complex multi-uncertainty problems in engineering safety analysis.

Abstract:The estimation of failure probability is challenging in hydrogen embrittlement in steel pipelines due to the complexity of the synergistic effect of multiple factors. The present study proposed a hybrid methodology to estimate the failure probability of steel pipelines due to hydrogen embrittlement. The methodology integrates the fault tree analysis with a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Fault tree analysis captures the logical relationships between influencing indicators to develop a new assessment model of hydrogen embrittlement in steel pipelines. An improved fuzzy fault tree analysis method was proposed to process aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties to estimate the probability of each basic event due to the difficulty in obtaining the actual probabilities. The failure probability of blended hydrogen natural gas pipelines was estimated by considering the correlation of events. A case study demonstrated the applicability of the proposed method. Maintenance measures can be implemented according to the evaluation results to ensure pipeline safety.

Abstract:Reliability technology plays a significant role in ensuring the safe operation of the subsea control system. To perform a comprehensive analysis of the reliability of complex systems, a combination of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fuzzy Fault Tree Approach (FFTA) is introduced. Firstly, the FMEA method is used to analyze the potential failure modes and causes of system failure by completing the qualitative analysis of system reliability from the perspective of multi-factor failure modes. And the risk matrix diagram is applied to determine the degree of harm of different failure modes to the system. Then, the system reliability is quantitatively analyzed using FFTA, and a fault tree model is established by dividing the system into "system-subsystem-component" and solving for the minimum cut set. In addition, the failure probability of the top-level event is quantitatively calculated by introducing fuzzy set theory, and the probabilistic importance of the bottom-level event is analyzed to find out the weak points of each subsystem. Finally, a qualitative and quantitative reliability analysis is conducted by using FMEA-FFTA method for subsea control system. Effective measures should be taken to focus on preventive protection and regular testing for the high risk, medium–high risk and medium risk modes for subsea control system.

Abstract:This paper proposes a fuzzy and rough sets integrated approach to fault diagnosis. The basic concepts of the rough set theory are firstly introduced, and then it describes how the rough sets theory is combined with fuzzy logic to form a new fault diagnostic scheme. An application example, marine diesel engine fault detection and diagnosis system, is presented, and the simulation results with on board real data demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Fault Tree analysis is a widely used failure analysis methodology to assess a system in terms of safety or reliability in many industrial application domains. However, with Fault Tree methodology there is no possibility to express a temporal sequence of events or state-dependent behavior of software-controlled systems. In contrast to this, Markov Chains are a state-based analysis technique based on a stochastic model. But the use of Markov Chains for failure analysis of complex safety-critical systems is limited due to exponential explosion of the size of the model. In this paper, we present a concept to integrate Markov Chains in Component Fault Tree models. Based on a component concept for Markov Chains, which enables the association of Markov Chains to system development elements such as components, complex or software-controlled systems can be analyzed w.r.t. safety or reliability in a modular and compositional way. We illustrate this approach using a case study from the automotive domain.
