Abstract:Objective To investigate the stability of neuropsycological tests--stroop color word test (SCWT) and trail making test (TMT). Methods Eighty-three subjects aged 55 to 80 without dementia as defined by the criteria of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Ⅳ(DSM-Ⅳ) were recruited. Neuropsychological tests SCWT, TMT were performed twice before and after 2-year follow up. Results One subject progressed to Alzheimer′s Disease and was excluded, all other subjects were analyzed. During follow-up, scores of auditory verbal learning test Ⅰ (AVLT-Ⅰ) were improved, and scores of other indices, including mini-mental state examination (MMSE), AVLT-Ⅱ , complex figure test-copy (CFT-C), CFT-Ⅱ, animal fluency test (AFT) and clock drawing test (CDT )were not changed significantly. Only the scores of right number of SCWT-card A was obviously higher than the baseline value, other indices were not different from the baseline value. The reaction time of SCWT-card C and TMT before follow-up were significantly correlated with those after follow-up (r=0.625, 0.567, P<0.01), while no significant differences were found in the right or error number of SCWT and TMT before and after follow-up (r=0.214, 0.025, P>0.05). Conclusions For SCWT and TMT tests, in which both the operation speed and accuracy should be emphasized ,the speed index (reaction time) is more stable than accuracy index, and is a better assessment indicator for clinical diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring of cognitive impairment.
