Abstract:To avoid the energy waste in the production of furnace grade phosphoric acid, a novel phosphoric reactor with circular water wall is designed, which could recover waste heat to produce superheated steam with the help of drum. A three-dimensional mathematical model of phosphorus combustion in the novel phosphoric reactor is developed by incorporating kappa-epsilon turbulence model, eddy dissipation combustion model and P-1 radiation heat transfer model. The streamline field distribution, temperature distribution and species concentration distribution are predicted by numerical simulation. The results show that phosphorus combustion mainly takes place in the injection zone of atomised phosphorus; the maximum combustion temperature and exit temperature are 1790 and 970 K respectively which conform well to practical datum. Meanwhile, the effects of parameters on maximum combustion temperature, smog exit temperature, maximum wall heat flux and averaged wall heat flux of the novel phosphoric reactor with circular water wall are also discussed, including phosphorus consumption, excess air coefficient, wall temperature and radiation absorption coefficient. The predicted results show that maximum combustion temperature, smog exit temperature, maximum wall heat flux and averaged wall heat flux will increase with increasing phosphorus mass flowrate when excess air coefficient is constant. Under the condition of constant phosphorus mass flowrate, the smog exit temperature will increase with increasing excess air coefficient and other parameters will decrease. Wall temperature has a remarkable effect on the smog exit temperature, whereas its effects on other parameters are not obvious. In addition, radiation absorption coefficient has remarkable effects on maximum combustion temperature and maximum wall heat flux in the novel phosphoric reactor.
