Abstract:Cells in area TE of the interotemporal cortex of the brain selectively respond to various moderately complex object features, and those that respond to similar features cluster in a columnar region elongated vertical to the cortical surface. So the TE region is composed of columnar modules in which cells within a columnar module respond to similar but not identical features. That multiple columns that represent different but related features overlap with one another, and the arrangement of features within these neighboring columns suggests that some space of features is continuously mapped. These findings are significant for the implementation of invariance?robustness to subtle changes, and preciseness of representation in a artificial visual system. And they are also significant for knowledge representation?pattern recognition and computer vision from point of view of AI, which is the result of hint from neuro_vision?physiology and psychology. In term of this physiological foundation, in this paper an artificial columnar hierarchical architecture is designed, and BP algorithm is used for the training of network.
