Abstract:Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic techniques for the operative therapy of varicocele. Methods The initial experience of laparoscopic ligation of varicocele in 43 patients was reported. Details of the technique of laparoscopic varicocelectomy were presented and the advantages and disadvantages of the procedures were discussed. Results Laparoscopic ligation of varicocele had been performed in 7～20 min, The spermatic artery was identified and preserved in 36 of the 44 cases. The patients were discharged within 48～72 hours of hospital admission. Conclusion The laparoscopic technique is an efficient, safe and minimally invasive operation with optimal results for treatment of clinical varicocele. The excellent identification of the anatomical structures, the minimal surgical trauma, the decrease in post-operative recurrence, and the quick convalescence of the patients have made if an available alternative to routine open high ligation.
