Abstract:For a class of uncertain time-varying time-delay linear systems which do not satisfy the matching conditions, an adaptive variable structure control strategy is proposed based on Lyapunov stability theorem. The control strategy can guarantee the existence of the closed-loop system's sliding phase. Since the conventional matching conditions are no longer wet, the coefficient matrix of the sliding function can be designed to satisfy a new matching condition. It is shown that the system is invariant on the sliding surface. Once the dynamics of the system come into the sliding mode, the motion should continue on the sliding surface, and under which condition, the global stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed Analysis of the simulation results of a numerical example showed that this design method is feasible and effective.

Abstract:The problem of decentralized control was investigated for a class of time-delayed interconnected systems with mismatched uncertainties. Based on linear transformation, a set of global reaching conditions of sliding surfaces for multi-input subsystems are presented. And the variable structure controllers are designed. The controllers can guarantee that the state trajectory of every subsystem is directed towards to the linear sliding surfaces. The slide mode exists and is asymptotically stable. Finally, a numerical example illustrates the proposed design approach

Abstract:For systems described by controlled auto-regressive integrated moving average model, a novel variable structure control (VSC) strategy based on general sliding mode prediction is presented. By creating a special sliding mode prediction model, introducing a suitable reference sliding mode trajectory, and combining with general predictive control (GPC) approach, the variable structure control law is constructed. Simulation results illustrate that the closed-loop systems have the advantages of VSC and GPC, while relief the drawbacks of VSC. Such as the systems have strong robustness, the systems states have fast convergence, the control signals in the systems are optimal, the disgusting chattering phenomena is eliminated, and the algorithm is convenient to deal with time-delay

Abstract:This paper presents the Direct Variable Structure Controller (DVSC) and Fuzzy Variable Structure Controller (FVSC) for a class of fuzzy dynamics. A Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) or nonlinear system is first represented by a fuzzy model, which consists of linear time-invariant systems at selected operation points. Variable Structure Control method is used to solve the controller design for each operation point and the direct variable structure controller for fuzzy system. The proposed methods were applied to the roll control channel in a missile where the plant was regarded as a PLV system; that is, the altitude and the velocity varied. In simulation studies, the proposed controller showed better control performance over the entire flight region.

Abstract:The design of a decentralized variable structure controller for interconnected systems was investigated. Based on variable structure-control (VSC) theory and by exploiting the structure of interconnected systems, a concise approach of decentralized VSC was presented. The design of decentralized variable structure controller required the uncertainties of the systems were bounded, but the interconnected item and the uncertain interconnected item was not required to be matched. The designed controllers guaranteeing the closed-loop systems are global asymptotically stable. The design approach is simple.

Abstract:Synthesis and designing of variable structure controller for time-variant linear time-delay singular system is studied. Firstly, a new restricted system equivalent form is developed and the system is decomposed into two low dimensional subsystems. Secondly, switching function with integral compensator is designed and sufficient conditions on asymptotic stability of the sliding mode are given. Thirdly, variable structure controller is designed, which guarantee the solution trajectory of the system arrive at the slide manifold in finite time. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate feasibility and simplicity of the design method.

Abstract:The advantages of both variable structure control and decentralized control have motivated us to investigate the decentralized variable structure control methods for uncertain interconnected systems. A set of global reaching conditions based on the linear transformation of sliding surface for multi-input subsystems are presented. The proposed decentralized variable structure control laws can be used to deal with the problems of large-scale systems with the unknown interconnections.

Abstract:Based on Variable Structure Control(VSC) theory and linear time-delay theory, a new Sliding-Mode Controller(SMC) is proposed for a class of uncertain time-delay system, which makes a system enter the sliding-mode immediately from any state and holds on the sliding-mode forever. Then three kinds of SMC, i.e. state feedback SMC, output feedback SMC and Dynamic SMC, are designed separately by choosing proper sliding-mode. The last simulation result shows the effectiveness of the obtained SMC method for the time-delay systems.

Abstract:This paper studies the synthesis and design problem of variable structure control for a linear discrete uncertain singular system with time-delays.Firstly,a new equivalent form of constrained system is developed and the system is decomposed into two low dimensional uncertain subsystems.Secondly,based on some results of the robust stability of discrete singular systems with time-delays,a switching function with difference compensator is designed,which guarantees that movement of the system is asymptotically stable in a quasi-switching manifold.Thirdly,a variable structure controller is designed,which can force the system trajectory either to arrive at the quasi-switching manifold in limited steps and ultimately slide to zero on the quasi-switching manifold or to enter into a small neighborhood of the quasi-switching manifold in limited steps and be convergent to a small chattering in the neighborhood.Finally,two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and practicability of the design method.

Abstract:The variable structure control problems of a class of stochastic systems with time-varying delays represented by partial differential equations arc discussed. Sliding manifolds are established and variable structure controller of the system is designed. Then, it is proved that the sliding mode of the systems has subordinate reachibility. By using Halanay inequality methods, a sufficient condition is obtained for mean-square asymptotical stability of the sliding mode motions.

Abstract:This paper proposes an effective control method aimed at the linear system with time-varying delay. We address the problem by means of switching among a finite family of candidate controllers. Our control method is based on semi-discretization method and hysteresis-based switching algorithms, where the former is introduced to design the candidate controller under one fixed time delay and the latter acts as the principal law of the switching. We prove the stability of our switching delay system and conclude that three factors, the size of the candidate controller set, the value of the switching coefficient, the changing rate of the delay, affect the system's stability, which can also be demonstrated by several groups of experiments. Simulation results show the correctness of our design.

Abstract:The time delay in active and semi-active controls is an important research subject. Many researches on the time-delay control for deterministic systems have been made (Hu and Wang 2002, Yang el al. 1990, Abdel-Mooty and Roorda 1991, Pu 1998, Cai and Huang 2002), while the study on that for stochastic systems is very limited. The effects of the time delay on the control of nonlinear systems under Gaussian white noise excitations have been studied by Bilello et al. (2002). The controlled linear systems with deterministic and random time delay subjected to Gaussian white noise excitations have been treated by Grigoriu (1997). Recently, a stochastic averaging method for quasi-integrable Hamiltonian systems with time delay has been proposed (Liu and Zhu 2007). In the present paper, a stochastic optimal time-delay control method for stochastically excited nonlinear structural systems is proposed based on the stochastic, averaging method for quasi Hamiltonian systems with time delay and the stochastic dynamical,, programming principle. An example of stochastically excited and controlled hysteretic column is given to illustrate the proposed control method.
Guaranteed Cost Control and Its Application to Networked Control Systems

Abstract:Network-induced delays in the networked control system are inevitable and have a significant effect on system performance. In this paper, time-varying delays are regarded as the sum of the mean delays and uncertain delays. Furthermore, NCS is modeled as a discrete-time model with structural uncertainty for its time-varying network-induced delays. Based on the model, a guaranteed cost control law is presented which can stabilize the closed loop system and guarantees an adequate level of quality of performance. Theoretical analyses and simulation results compared to standard discrete linear quadratic regulator designed for discrete-time systems show that the control strategy presented in this paper is effective and feasible.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of variable structure adaptive fuzzy control for a class of nonlinear time-delay systems is investigated. Sliding surface dependent of the time delay is constructed based on the Lyapunov–Krasovskii method. Two adaptive fuzzy logic systems are proposed to approximate two unknown continuous nonlinear functions containing the current state and the delayed state, respectively. The corresponding reaching law is designed, which can drive the state trajectory of the closed system onto the sliding surface within limited time. Simulation investigation verifies the effect of the main results of the paper.

Abstract:The discrete-time variable structure control method for seismically excited linear structures with time delay in control is investigated in this paper. The control system with time delay is first discretized and transformed into standard discrete form which contains no time delay in terms of the time delay being integer and non-integer times of sampling period, respectively. Then the discrete switching surface is determined using ideal quasi-sliding mode and discrete controller is designed using the discrete approach-law reaching condition. The deduced controller and switching surface contain not only the current step of state feedback but also linear combination of some former steps of controls. Numerical simulations are illustrated to verify the feasibility and robustness of the proposed control method. Since time-delay effect is incorporated in the mathematical model for the structural control system throughout the derivation of the proposed algorithm, system performance and dynamic stability are guaranteed. Abstract:The design of variable structure control (VSC) of uncertain discrete time systems by use of the discrete reaching law is discussed. The reason for the discrete reaching law to cause system chattering is given and an improved discrete reaching law is developed, by which the VSC is obtained straightforward. A grey estimating model is built for the uncertain part and thus all parameter values are obtained. Simulation results have illustrated that the method presented in the paper is feasible and the asymptotic stability of the closed system is ensured by use of this method.

Based on the model, a new control law via an iterative LMI approach is presented which can stabilize the closed-loop system. Abstract:The controller of the investigated optimal control method is obtained from analyzing the time-delay differential equation. The deduced controller contains not only the current step of state feedback but also the linear combination of some former steps of control. The simulation results demonstrate that the presented control method is effective in reducing maximum responses of the systems, and the system stability can be guaranteed by using this control method. The instability in responses may occurs if the systems with time delay are controlled by using the controller designed in the case of no time delay.
