Abstract::In PTA process, TA slurry density is one of the most important technical index and can influence PTA's output and quality. In this paper, the property of slurry density is analyzed. Then, advanced control, nolinear compensation + model predictive control, is presented. The application showed this method can reduce the variety of slurry density and increase the plant capability.

Abstract:A review of progress in PTA process RD in China was made in this paper. It summarized the works contributed by Zhejiang University group. The works cover chemical engineering aspects: reaction kinetics, flow and transport phenomena, reactor modeling, the database development, the novel reactor and novel process flowsheet design. It was shown that the domestic development of PTA process now is proceeding to the stage of industrialization. Both market and technique environment are best at the moment, and we must do our best to promote industrial application of the novel domestic techniques.

Abstract:Batch chemical reactors are good candidates for the applicationof advanced process control because they involve kinetic parameters that are highly uncertain and slowly time varying. In this paper, an advanced methodology combining the predictive functional control (PFC) and PID control is proposed. The control strategy composed of four methods has been designed for temperature tracking control of batch chemical reactors. On the basis of SUPCON JX-300 distributed control system, a software package for batch reactor temperature tracking advanced control has been developed. The industrial application of the software package has achieved good results.

Abstract:As a common predictive control method, the Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) algorithm had been widely studied and developed in the last two decades. It has been successfully applied in many chemical/petrochemical plants, where it has an excellent performance. For the control problem of the liquid level of the pre-fractionating tower in the catalyzing reforming plant in a refinery, this paper presents the system identification of dynamic predictive model and the application of DMC algorithm, besides the improvement of the algorithm to speed up the controller and make it more suitable for computer using.

Abstract:Key technology of steady-state optimization and dynamic control in MPC(Model Predictive Control) engineering software are proposed, based on our self-development MPC software—Frontapc. The priority strategy to handle multi-objective optimization applied in steady-state optimization and the method to achieving the unique optimization steady state are proposed. Zone control strategy cooperated with funnel constrains is presented for the purpose to improve the robust control quality. The efficiency of this MPC software is illustrated by the successful application in distillation control system of acetaldehyde production process.

Abstract:An advanced control strategy as the combination of predictive functional control and PID control is studied. With an industrial application background of temperature control in chemical reactor, predictive functional controller and transparent control scheme are designed. Simulation results show that the transparent control system obtains good tracking control performance, enough disturbance rejection and good robustness. At the same time, the advanced control strategy has been implemented in the SUPCON JX-300 distributed control systems and has provided good results.

Abstract:Advanced process control (APC) technologies have been widely used to improve plant profitability and reliability in the last several decades. Dynamic matrix control (DMC) is one of these technologies, and plays an important role in refinery and petrochemical plant APC practice. There are many factors that may impact the success of an APC project, including technological and non-technological issues. The engineering aspects of APC project are discussed and explained by the details of execution of a crude unit APC application. The purpose of this paper is to highlight how to integrate DMC technology and fundamental process control knowledge for getting the APC project done.

Abstract:Automatic Control system has been widely used in the field of modern chemical production industry,which not only enhances the automatic level of production device but also elevates products' quality and output.A method combining manufacture process monitoring system and PLC is presented,through which automatic control system of a set of device for latex polymerization is developed and automatic control and monitoring function of the whole manufacture process are realized.For the key factor influencing quality best-polymerization temperature,cascade with stroke-dividing control algorithm is applied.Through long-term practical running,control effect reaches the expectation,which demonstrates the feasibility of this control system.

Abstract:A moving horizon pseudo-linear regression(MHPLR)method is proposed which is more robust than the original PLR in noisy environment,and requires no on-line optimization.Utilizing the proposed MHPLR,a time series model was recursively estimated on-line to describe the dynamics of the unmeasured disturbances in DMC control system.And the original DMC algorithm was modified in terms of the disturbance prediction.Applied to the PTA solvent dehydration tower,the modified DMC showed effectiveness and efficiency in improving the control performance and reducing the cost.

Abstract:A model-based predictive controller known as Dynamic Matrix Control with Linear Programming optimizer (DMC-LP) is applied to a nonlinear multivariable laboratory process which consists of four interconnected water tanks. Experimental results show that DMC-LP is a powerful constrained model predictive controller. Based upon simple step response model, it can provide improved control performance and strong robustness. More important, it can handle all kinds of input and output constraints explicitly. Finally, it can reconfigure the control structure based on the different operational requirements. Therefore, it can be applied in most complicated industrial processes.

Abstract:This paper presents a method for the autonomous control of supporting pressure balance for a slurry shield tunnel boring machine. The mechanism of multi-system coupling interactions of the slurry supporting process is revealed by establishing the dynamic model of the process. Furthermore, the degree of controllability of the manipulated inputs is analyzed and verified theoretically using singular value decomposition. Based on the analysis of the supporting process dynamics, a cyber-physical system (CPS)-based hierarchical autonomous control scheme is proposed. The execution level digital optimal controllers are designed and auto-tuned. The discrete event-driven control logic is also included in the execution level and modeled as a finite state machine. For comparison purpose, the coordination level controller is implemented using a hybrid switched model predictive controller and a deep neural network, respectively. Various artificial neural networks with different hyper-parameters are trained and compared using big data. The performance of the proposed autonomous control methodology is tested and compared with human operators by using randomly extracted construction field data. The test results show that the autonomous control system with switched model predictive controller outperforms that with the deep neural network and human operators. The results validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed autonomous control methodology.

Abstract:Purified terephthalic acid (PTA) is critical to the development of the polyester industry. PTA production consists of p-xylene oxidation reaction and crude terephthalic acid (CTA) hydropurification. The hydropurification process is necessary to eliminate 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4-CBA), which is a harmful byproduct of the oxidation reaction process. Based on the dynamic model of the hydropurification process, two control systems are studied using Aspen Dynamics. The first system is the ratio control system, in which the mass flows of CTA and deionized water are controlled. The second system is the multivariable predictive control-proportional-integral-derivative cascade control strategy, in which the concentrations of 4-CBA and carbon monoxide are chosen as control variables and the reaction temperature and hydrogen flow are selected as manipulated variables. A detailed dynamic behavior is investigated through simulation. Results show that the developed control strategies exhibit good control performances, thereby providing theoretical guidance for advanced control of industry-scale PTA production.

Abstract:Dynamic rigorous model including kinetics and thermodynamics is established for the ethylene slurry polymerization plant.Thermodynamic properties are estimated by Kriging technique with the maximum relative error less than 2%.Based on the equation oriented model,control and state variables are synchronously discretized using orthogonal collocation finite elements(OCFE) method to develop simultaneous dynamic simulation for grade transition operations.The results are validated by comparing steady state data of five different grades obtained by Aspen Plus.The dynamic grade transition based on average molecular weight is also presented,which is close to that in Aspen Dynamic.

Abstract:According to the process characteristics and control requirements of the polypropylene unit with liquid phase bulk polymerization,the concentration controller,quality controller,production rate controller and grade switching control strategy have been designed.The advanced process control system of polypropylene unit was established by advanced control software APC-Suite.Industrial application results showed that the APC system can improve stability of the key process parameters,such as concentration of hydrogen,ring tube density and product quality of the unit,reduce the grade transition time and labor intensity,and achieve significant economic benefits.

Abstract:As a practical approach, the dynamic matrix control (DMC) algorithm has been widely used in the control of chemical processes for decades. Nevertheless, there is no strong relationship between the tuning parameters of DMC and the closed-loop dynamics. In this article, a pseudo feedforward dynamic matrix control (PFFDMC) algorithm for realizing desired closed-loop performance in industrial systems is proposed. Building on insights from cascade control, a pseudo feedforward compensator is added in front of the process to precondition the overall system offline for expected characteristics achievement. Then, the actual manipulated variables can be obtained first by solving a modified objective function and then through matrix transformation. The proposed algorithm provides a quantitative relation between the pseudo feedforward sequence and the final setpoint tracking results rather than a qualitative way. Numerical simulations on SISO and MIMO systems are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm on performance criteria achievement.
