Abstract:The research of knowledge discovery and data mining is growing rapidly and its application on chemical industry becomes more popular.In this paper,the rough sets theory is discussed together with reduction means of decision system and the classification rules extraction.An entropy-based algorithm was proposed for discretization of continuous variables.Based on the rough sets theory,the production data of the triazophos synthesis process was taken as the examples and simple and understandable rules were extracted.The results indicate that the approach is effective and widely applicable.

Recent methods based on rough set for incomplete information system are introduced and analyzed from three aspects, extension of rough set theory, attribute reduction and rule extraction. Future research (directions) are also proposed. This paper provides the basis for seeking efficient mining algorithm for (incomplete) information systems.

Abstract:This paper proposes the concept of incomplete and fuzzy decision information system under incomplete information system and completes fuzzy decision information system, unlike either incomplete information system or complete fuzzy decision information system, which is a generalization of them. The rough set model for incomplete and fuzzy decision information system based on limited tolerance relation is presented, which is alike the generalizations of rough set model for incomplete information system and of that for complete fuzzy decision information system. Knowledge reduction and its algorithm ascertaining precision degree unchanged are mentioned.

Abstract:The topical rough set theory is a forceful tool to handle the complete information system, and its effect to process incomplete information system is poor, particularly, its function to combine the incomplete information system with fuzzy decision information system is poorer. On the base of improving on the tolerance relation made by M. Kryszkiewez, this paper proposes the improved-tolerance relation and improved-tolerance classes; we simultaneously present the definition of the incomplete and fuzzy decision information system based on the improved-tolerance relation, and give its rough set model, i.e. the rough set model in incomplete and fuzzy decision information system. Finally, the conception of precision reduction is defined, and its algorithm is also supplied.

Abstract:This paper further studies the fuzzy rough sets based on fuzzy coverings. We first present the notions of the lower and upper approximation operators based on fuzzy coverings and derive their basic properties. To facilitate the computation of fuzzy coverings for fuzzy covering rough sets, the concepts of fuzzy subcoverings, the reducible and intersectional elements, the union and intersection operations are provided and their properties are discussed in detail. Afterwards, we introduce the concepts of consistent functions and fuzzy covering mappings and provide a basic theoretical foundation for the communication between fuzzy covering information systems. In addition, the notion of homomorphisms is proposed to reveal the relationship between fuzzy covering information systems. We show how large-scale fuzzy covering information systems and dynamic fuzzy covering information systems can be converted into small-scale ones by means of homomorphisms. Finally, an illustrative example is employed to show that the attribute reduction can be simplified significantly by our proposed approach.

Abstract:With the probability rules and the degree of coverage of elements in the partition set, and the combination of the Fuzzy Set Theory and Rough Set Theory, a new extension of Fuzzy Rough Set theory was proposed. It is defined the maximum of Rough Set membership function, the minimum of Rough Set membership function, the average of Rough Set membership function, the upper minimum of Rough Set membership function and the lower maximum of Rough Set membership function. The properties of the extension for the Rough Set membership functions are also given. This made Fuzzy Set Theory and Rough Set Theory complemented each other and provided a new way to deal with incomplete data.

Abstract:Rough sets theory (RS) is a new tool for processing fuzzy and uncertain knowledge, and has already been applied to many areas successfully. By analyzing the basic characteristics of rough set, we find that the existing rough set model can't effectively solve data reduction and knowledge discovery with fuzzy feature. In order to improve it, in this paper, we first propose rough sets model based on fuzzy measure (denoted by BF-RS for short), then we analyze the effectiveness of the model through an example. The result indicates BF-RS can not only have the advantages of classical rough set, but also it can solve effectively information processing problem with the fuzzy characteristics, and can be widely used in many fields such as data mining, evidence theory, artificial intelligence and so on.

Abstract:Some work has been done for dealing with Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) based on Rough Set, but in those cases Rough Set was just regarded as a tool for data cleaning, or for assisting other methods or for detecting whether a system has fault but usually cannot tell where it happened. To solve this problem, a new approach for FDD based on Rough Set is proposed. The applicability and computational complexity of this approach is discussed. Knowledge about a process control systems faults is obtained automatically by Rough Set value reduction, and an entropy-based criterion is used to measure its uncertainty. Methods of forward and backward fault diagnosis and how to build up decision tables for each fault source are given. The feasibility of forming a knowledge discovering and intelligent decision-making system for FDD based on Rough Set Theory is discussed through a case study.

Abstract:Rough set theory is an important mathematical tool to deal with insufficient and incomplete information. The concepts of intuitionistic fuzzy rough sets and variable precision rough sets are very useful in the study of intelligent systems. The aim of this paper is to present a new extension of the rough set theory by means of integrating the variable precision rough set theory with the intuitionistic fuzzy rough set theory, i.e., the variable precision intuitionistic fuzzy rough set model is presented based on the intuitionistic fuzzy inclusion sets and intuitionistic fuzzy inclusion ratio which are defined in this paper, and by employing the intuitionistic fuzzy implicator and the intuitionistic fuzzy t-norm. Meanwhile, the approximation quality and attribute reduction of the variable precision intuitionistic fuzzy rough sets are defined. It shows that the results obtained in this paper extend the previous related conclusions. Finally, an example is given to illustrate our results.

An Innovative Rough Set Model Based on Fuzzy Covering for Ordered Decision Making

Abstract:Fuzzy and rough sets are considered to be complementary to each other, addressing different aspects of uncertainty and vagueness. The rough set theory has been extended and modified such that it can be applied to the preference analysis in ordered decision making. However, neither the ordered structure nor dominance degrees among the investigated objects can be revealed during the ordered decision making process. In this paper, an innovative rough set model based on fuzzy covering is developed for ordered decision making. First, the crisp preference relation rough set model and the fuzzy preference relation model for ordered decision making were introduced. Next we integrated the fuzzy preference relation with the crisp preference relation rough set model to propose an innovative rough set model based on fuzzy covering for ordered decision making. Using the innovative model, both the ordered structure and dominance degrees among the investigated objects can be revealed during the ordered decision making process. The proposed model was then compared with the crisp preference rough set model. Finally, the proposed model is utilized to analyze fuzzy preference data obtained from real experiments of ordered decision making. Results validated the effectiveness of the innovative model.

On the base of the notion of variable precision rough set model for incomplete information system and the rough set model for incomplete and fuzzy decision information system, the variable rough set model for incomplete and fuzzy decision information system is constructed, which is the generalization of the variable precision rough set model for incomplete information system and that of rough set model for incomplete and fuzzy decision information system. The knowledge reduction and heuristic algorithm, built on the method and theory of precision reduction, are proposed.

Abstract:The notion of a rough set was originally proposed by Pawlak underwent a number of extensions and generalizations. Dubois and Prade (1990) introduced fuzzy rough sets which involve the use of rough sets and fuzzy sets within a single framework. Radzikowska and Kerre (2002) proposed a broad family of fuzzy rough sets, referred to as ( t)-fuzzy rough sets which are determined by some implication operator (implicator), and a certain t-norm. In order to describe the linguistically represented concepts coming from data available in some information system, the concept of fuzzy rough sets are redefined and further studied in the setting of the Axiomatic Fuzzy Set (AFS) theory. Compared with the ( t)-fuzzy rough sets, the advantages of AFS fuzzy rough sets are twofold. They can be directly applied to data analysis present in any information system without resorting to the details concerning the choice of the implication, t-norm and a similarity relation S. Furthermore such rough approximations of fuzzy concepts come with a well-defined semantics and therefore offer a sound interpretation. Some examples are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed construct. It is shown that the AFS fuzzy rough sets provide a far higher flexibility and effectiveness in comparison with rough sets and some of their generalizations.

Abstract:Incomplete space and fuzzy decision information system exist in many applications, and their models and methods for knowledge reduction are not equivalent to incomplete Pawlak space information system or fuzzy decision information system in complete space. This paper proposes the concept of incomplete and fuzzy decision information systems based on incomplete approximation space and fuzzy decision information system, and gives the rough set model of incomplete and fuzzy decision information systems by the tolerance relation. The model generalizes rough set model of complete fuzzy decision information systems and traditional decision information systems. In this paper the concept of precision reduction and the simple algorithm are presented.

Abstract:A rough set model based on distance is constructed by introducing distance of intuitionistic and interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (values) into intuitionistic and interval-valued fuzzy information systems, and the upper/lower approximation reductions are defined. Using discernibility matrix, the lower approximtion reduction and rules acquisition algorithm for intuitionistic fuzzy information systems are devised and applied to risk judgment on information systems security auditing. This (interval) intuitionistic fuzzy rough set approach can give aid to risk judgment on information systems security auditing.

Abstract:Fuzzy rough set theory is an important method for data mining of uncertain data. This paper presents a theoretical foundation for the reduction of fuzzy information system. A general formula is given for the approximation operators of fuzzy sets using the triangular norm and its conorm. Then the upper definable sets and lower definable sets are defined and shown to form a complete distributive lattice. These relationships were used to define a fuzzy information system and its reduction and to study its relation with a crisp information system and its reduction, as a theoretical foundation for the reduction of fuzzy information systems. The results well facilitate the analysis of fuzzy sets and rough sets for improving data mining. 

Abstract:Fuzzy rough set,which combines the ideas of fuzzy set and rough set,is a new soft computing tool dealing with fuzzy and uncertain information.In this paper the authors propose an entropy-based knowledge acquisition approach to handle information system whose attribute values are fuzzy.Firstly,the authors calculate fuzzy indiscernibility values between objects in each attribute based on fuzzy similarity measure.With these values the authors can construct fuzzy equivalence relations among objects.Then the authors can calculate the information entropy of any attribute set.The entropy-based attribute reduction algorithm can be used to acquire rules.Finally,by an example,the approach is verified to be reasonable and effective.

Abstract:Knowledge reduction is one of important issues in rough set theory.Based on rough set models and knowledge reduction definitions,the corresponding reduction methods are researched in classic rough sets,in which the discernibility matrix or discernibility function plays an important role.In fuzzy information systems,some basic rough set models are presented.However,knowledge reduction methods need to be studied more.The discernibility function based reduction method is proposed.Example analysis illustrates the main steps of the presented discernibility function reduction approach.This method is efficient to knowledge acquisition from fuzzy information systems.
