Abstract:High efficient power management scheme is implemented to reduce the embedded system's power consumption.An integrity power management software system is designed and implemented based on Advanced Power Management(APM) technology with adding the bootloader's support for the power management,modifying the Linux kernel's code to support the power management for the S3C2440 processor and system's peripheral equipment,creating a user space daemon for power management.Experiment is done on the YLP2440 development board and the experimental results show that this power management system can reduce the power consumption to 11.67% and 12.96% respectively in two typical system frequency as that of the former in the idle state.

Abstract:Nowadays industry depends more and more on computer system. This fact needs a service that can continue working for a long time, which makes high availability to be the key for solution to server. Many kinds of ways of high availability are described, such as hot standby, cluster, and the strong points and shortcomings of these solutions are described. Then design of a hot standby high available system is suggested, which is based on linux. This system, uses process migration skill to realize the fluent system switch.

Abstract:Remote power-supply technology and its states and foreground in modern application on network communication facilities were introduced.A new surveillant block design strategy with high compatibility and modularized was proposed.The structure of remote power-supply system,the hardware design scheme and software strategy on power-management of the power-distribution manager were presented.Experimental results indicate that the new design improves the efficiency of surveillance on the facilities under control,and realizes power distribution with accuracy and intelligence.

Abstract:Dynamic power management (DPM) is a design methodology for dynamically reconfiguring systems to provide the requested services and performance levels with a minimum number of active components or a minimum load on such components. The principle of DPM selectively shuts down or depresses performance of some components that are idle. Many approaches have been exploited for DPM, different approach leads to different effects of power saving. Former analysis of power saving effect of DPM approach used to use theoretical computation or simulation which are difficult to reflect the real efficiency of power saving of the target DPM approach, this paper presents an analytic approach which could be embedded into the real implementation of DPM architecture to monitor the behavior of DPM approach, record information it needs for analysis, and analyze power saving effect offline, it could also support systems that have multi low power states. Experiment results shows that this analytic approach gets the same results as the simulated results

Abstract:The status of setting calculation software is detailed.The problems are pointed out,such as the validity of calculation results,usability,universality and developability of software.The methods to solve these problems are four steps.First,it takes operating condition as the combination of running mode of plant or station,power supply topological and rules of equipment maintenance.It is useful at simplifying setup and choice of operating conditions and ensuring calculation result correction.Second,the functions of achieving integrated setting list is offered,setting examination and rectification are setting to enhance software's practicality and interaction design method is employed to ensure software's usability.Third,it introduces software structure with insert mode to actualize the common platform.With this structure,the software can be used in various levels of power networks by switching function groupware with corresponding edition.It is important to solve software' universality.Fourth,the theory of software engineering is studied and the management of development course is strengthened to ensure the developability of software.

Abstract:An implementation on real-time analyzing energy-loss of 300MW unit is discussed, and a method of data preprocessing and reference value confirming their performance is also put forward, based on quasi-three-dimensional calculation. Consequently, some functions and characteristic of the analyzing software are introduced in detail. Resulting in a system that provides real-time energy-losses and operation instructions to improve the economic operation, to help in energy saving and in reducing the coal consumption rate.

Abstract:The imminence of the production management system’s upgrading in some certain thermo power plant was described,the function of the system was shown,and some key problems in system upgrading were analyzed.The solution to the problem how the client program to replant from Windows 98 platform to Windows 2000/XP platform was given.At the same time,how to consummate the Active X controls in the system was discussed and the correlative code was given.For a better management of data,to deposit the separated data to an exclusive database,a reasonable blueprint of interface was given to resolve the problem of multi-data sources.
A User-Configured Low Power Optimizing Mechanism on Embedded System

Abstract:Currently, power management methods for embedded system are mainly implementations of DPM or DVS using workload-prediction techniques. A problem for this approach is that they are all purely hardware-oriented, regardless of factors such as software design and user's demands, which actually drive the hardware to generate power consumption. In this paper, we propose a low power optimizing mechanism to reduce the power consumption of embedded systems using Task Decomposition on software and FSM (Finite-State Machine) on device driver. Also, we present a novel power management strategy called User-Configured Threshold Timeout/Sleep Strategy, in which power management strategy is dynamically adjusted in accordance with the actual needs of users. After simulations on S3C6410 embedded systems, we find that our proposed mechanism can reduce by up to 70.6% of the power consumption, with an average of 58.5%.

Abstract:Environmentally sustainable computing and green computing have been studied addressing the need of reducing power consumption mainly in area of high performance computing systems(HPC), mostly on the server side. However, desktop applications in wide-spread use of large organizations and companies are given relatively less focus. In this paper, we study the application fast deployment and fast crash restore through lightweight application virtualization, which can actually conserve energy by significantly reducing application installation/start up time and application crash restore time. We demonstrate that the proposed lightweight application virtualization method has little performance degradation with a noticeable energy saving by carrying out experiments on lots of commonly used real-world work applications. In addition, we implement the prototype system to help users to continue normal work quickly without losing data after crashing. Several novel mechanisms are utilized to make the process fast. We evaluate the system from aspects of start up time, runtime performance and application compatibility, and using a power evaluation model to measure the effectiveness of the system.
