Abstract:A video IP telephone terminal based on H.323 is described in this paper. It is in compliance with the video compression standards H.263/H.261 and the audio compression standards G.711/G.723.1/G.729. The new generation DSP chip TM1300 of Philips is used in this undependent terminal.

Abstract:A DSP-based solution to LAN/Intranet-oriented IP telephone is presented. This IP Telephone can be used either as a desktop PC peripheral or as an Intranet network terminal. Its cores are TMS320C5402 in charge of voice code and MPC860T in charge of communications protocol processing and control logic. Several kinds of interface including USB, RS232 and RJ45 are designed to allow IP telephone to connect with other equipment in flexible ways. Some details of hardware architecture are discussed in this paper.

Abstract:Beginning from the ITU H.323 multimedia communication protocol and the hardware and software architecture of a MCU system, a IP video phone conference system based on the H. 323 protocol was introduced, which is a embedded system de-signed for special requirement. To enhance the utilization performance of network resource, the grouping exchange technology was applied in the network layer in this system. It was specially put forward a double process boards hardware structure-the sup-port hardware for audio/video encode and decode, data encapsulate etc was integrated in the mother board and the communication function with the network in the subsidiary board. The two boards communicate with data stream mechanism and the software system was also drived by data stream. High reliability , low cost and good transplantation to the realization of IP video phone conference system were provided, which was meaningful used to reference by similar small video conference system research and development.

Abstract:Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) is a technique that performs asymmetric high-speed data transmission on two-wire twisted metallic cable pairs. Because it can provide a standard, economical, and convenient broadband access, ADSL is widely applied in the future. ADSL transceiver consists of two parts: ATU-C (ADSL terminal unit-center office) and ATU-R (ADSL terminal unit-remote). There are two types of ATU-R which are the extended one and the internal one. ITU Recommendation G. Dmt and G. Lite describe the characters of ADSL transceiver, in which DMT (discrete multitone) modulation is adopted. This paper, firstly describes the principle of DMT modulation in brief, then constructs a platform of external ADSL terminal unit-remote (ATU-R)for G. Dmt, using the method for embedded system design. Finally the hardware and the software architectures are presented in detail. Experimental results show that the ATU-R can successfully implement some broadband services.

Abstract:With the packet exchange principle,IPPBX can realize the functions of the traditional PBX on Ethernet and overcome the insufficiency of traditional PBX effectively. It has powerful functions,comprehensive services with less cost. The typical networking mode of IPPBX is introduced in this paper. The design principles of each module system MPC8250 hardware system based on IPPBX and the software system of the system are given. The protocol conversion software of main con?trol module is also analyzed. The test result shows that the system can achieve simultaneous processing of 200 calls and its voice quality is excellent.

Abstract:OpenH323 is an open source VoIP(Voice over IP)protocol stack. It supports H.323, SIP and other multimedia communication protocols and provides a good developing platform for multimedia applications. G.723.1 is an ITU standard for speech codecs which are mainly used for medium-rate and low-rate multimedia communication applications. At present, G.723.1 has been widely used in the IP phone systems. Based on the OpenH323 software-end, realizing the G.723.1 codec has very important application value. In this paper, the realization method of G.723.1 codec on the OpenH323 protocol stack is presented, and it can be extended to G.729 and other speech codecs.

Abstract:Videoconferencing over POTS/GSTN introduces exciting and yet unimagined potential in telecommunication. Enabling this potential is the International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication Sector (ITU-T) standard H.324 for multimedia conferencing on POTS/GSTN. Since the completion of the H.324 standard in March 1996, Intel Corporation, 8X8 Incorporated, Smith Micro and VDOnet, etc. have begun to sell their products from the middle of 1997. But unfortunately, none of them dare to claim that their product will work properly with another vendor's product. In addition, none of them give out their performance in quantities such as peak frame rate, sustained frame rate, and corresponding SNR, audio delay etc. Considering this situation, the motivation of this paper is to discuss the design, implementation and verification methodology, and also discuss the key technologies used in H.324 videophone design

Abstract:Based on studying the G.729 speech coding algorithm, this paper describes the details of the ITU-T G.729 speech coder implementation using Texas Instruments' high-performance programmable TMS320C6x DSP family and the various techniques used in optimization. It can considerably reduce the calculation burden and the out speech still keeps a high reconstructed quality. This paper presents the simple techniques to extend the coder for multiple channels using a telecom application specific kernel, the multiple channel coding system can basically reach the demand of the application. Finally we give an evaluation of the real-time MCPS, memory requirements, processing delays and associate trade-offs of the coder using this DSP, and it is helpful for constructing other speech coders.

Abstract:Since the emergence of IP telephony applications in recent years,this paper introduces the concept of lawful interception on IP telephony,analyzes the difficulties in intercepting IP telephone calls in contrast to ordinary PSTN, and proposes a lawful interception system in H.323 networks which complies with ETSI specification.Finally,an evaluation on the proposed system points out its advantage over other interception systems.

Abstract:Taking the high performance DSP as design core,and H.264 as coding standard,the video signal is transmitted over dual-channel of Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution(EDGE) to the video services.The transmission control policy based on dual-channel buffers,as well as hardware and software designs are described in details.The experimental results show that the system can transmit real-time video with CIF format.

Abstract:We implement H.263 (by 3rd Generation Partnership Project,3GPP) coding and decoding on a special DSP which is designed for the implement of multimedia applications. According to the characteristic of this DSP,we optimized the critical modules of H.263 coding and decoding by completely using technologies of SIMD,software pipeline and special instructions and optimized the memory arrangement. We finally realized the H.263 coding and decoding of the size-configured video frequency. Compared with TMS320C6201 and TMS320C6401,the total periodicity of our result is 40% less than the TMS320C6201 does.

Abstract:We construct a low-bit rate multimedia communication system (LBMCS) and propose a new fast motion estimation algorithm which guarantees the implementation of a software-based H.263 codec. Based on this system we implement some practical functions such as remote monitor, videophone, audio recording, video recording, facsimile (FAX) and white board. Besides discussing the hardware structure and software frameworks of the system, we place the emphasis on the efficient implementation of the H.263 codec where the improvement in half-pel estimation is mentioned, and a novel search algorithm SSS (synthetical switch search) is expatiated on. Simulation results show that SSS is rather better than the common-used search algorithm, the TSS (three step search)

Abstract:This paper introduces the design and implementation of a DSP-based stand-alone remote video surveillance terminal. CPLD is designed to implement the control logic of image acquisition. ADSP-21535 is utilized as the CPU to implement the MPEG4 coding of images, the network transferring and local storing of coded data. The system architecture and flow are presented, then the software and hardware design and implementation of the image acquisition module and network interface module are presented in detail. Finally the system performance is given.
