Pretreatment Research of Soy Whey

Abstract:This study was aimed to solve the pretreatment problem in membrane processes for recovering physically functional substances from soy whey.The experiment results showed that flocculation and centrifugation could remove about 65% of the fat and 90% of the SS from the soy whey,while filter bag and filter tube could remove little.But filter bag could be placed before MF to ensure its smooth performance.MF is essential for further removal of the undesirable substances and bacteria.The pretreatment process shall consist of flocculation,centrifugation and MF,which could remove all the SS and more than 90% of the fat from the soy whey,with only about 10% of the protein lost.Pilot-scale experiment proved the conclusions above.
