Histo- Morphological Changes of Cochleas after Cochlear Microendoscopy

Abstract:Purpose In order to lay the foundation for farther applying cochlear microendoscope in clinical practice, we applied it to the cochlea examination of guinea pigs, and then studied the histomorphological changes. Methods Forty - eight guinea pigs were divided into 4 groups randomly.Guinea pigs in group A were used as controls,while guinea pigs in group B,C,D were killed immediately,one week,two weeks after microcochleaendoscopy,then cochleas were taken for light microscopic and scanning electron microscopic examination. Results Histological examinations of Corti organ,bony spiral lamina, vascular stria and spiral ganglion of cells were normal in all guinea pigs. Scanning electron microscopic examination revealed that inner and outer hair cells of guinea pigs in all groups were arranged in row, which were not lacking,inverted or fused, and that extramicroscopic structure of support cells were normal. Conclusions Cochlear microendoscopy has no effect on histo - morphology of guinea pigs' cochleas.
