Abstract:To improve the feedback precision of the photoelectric encoder and remove the disturbance of the rectangular waveform,a photoelectric encoder measuring system based on complex programmable logic device(CPLD) was offered,which had the ability of frequency multiplication and filtering.The photoelectric encoder measurement principle was introduced.The system was divided into three modules,including filtering phase,frequency and the counter.These three modules were designed and simulated.The simulation results show that the design methods meet signal processing requirements of high-precision servo motor orthogonal coding.

Abstract:A photoelectric signal, output by a photoelectric receiver, may detrimentally change after the photoelectric encoder is used for a period of time or when the environment changes; this will directly affect the accuracy of the encoder and lead to fatal errors in the encoder. To maintain its high accuracy, we propose an encoder that can work in a variety of environments and that adopts full digital processing. A signal current that travels from the receiver of a photoelectric encoder is converted into a voltage signal via current limiting resistance. All signals are directly processed in the data processor component of the system. The encoder converts all the signals into its normalized counterpart. Then, the angle of the encoder is calculated using the normalized value. The calculated encoder angle compensates for any error. The final encoder angle is obtained, and the encoder angle is output accordingly. Experiments show that this method can greatly reduce the encoder’s volume. This method also reduces the encoder error from 167 arcseconds to 53 arcseconds. The encoder can still maintain a high accuracy during environmental changes, especially in harsh environments where there are higher accuracy requirements.

Abstract:The paper introduces a photoelectric encoder circuit for performing sixty arithmetical operation of compressed BCD codes. Using VHDL in programming and simulation, the software is developed on the platform of Quartus 5.1, and the hardware is based on EPM1270T144C5 which is a CPLD of the Altera′s MAXⅡfamily. The acquired encoder circuit can make the photoelectric encoder do faster arithmetical operation to advance the dynamic performance level of a position detecting system. The paper introduces the principle and design of the encoder circuit and successfully make it work in the system. It also finds out several defects in the current system and proposes some suggestions to make an improvement.

Abstract:Aimed at the problem of axial angle encoder have great influence on the result of change of traditional decoder circuit,a new method of decode and its hardware circuit implement is presented.A full digital scheme is used in this method of encoder to obtain the original information.The key parameters can be changed adaptively and environmental variation can be compensated.An intelligent filter is used for disposing coarse signal,to get best performance of filter and make the parameters of filter changed with encoder's speed.Practice has shown that the workload of translating-circuit's debugging and photoelectrical encoder's installation is reduced greatly.The encoder is reliable in severe environment.

Abstract:In response to the engineering, miniaturization, and high measurement accuracy requirements of encoders, this paper proposes a new type of absolute photoelectric encoder based on a position-sensitive detector (PSD). It breaks the traditional encoder's code track design and adopts a continuous and transparent code track design, which has the advantages of small volume, high angle measurement accuracy, and easy engineering. The research content of this article mainly includes the design of a new code disk, decoding circuit, linear light source, and calibration method. The experimental results show that the encoder designed in this article has achieved miniaturization, simple installation and adjustment, and easy engineering. The volume of the encoder is Φ50 mm × 30 mm; after calibration, the resolution is better than 18 bits, and the accuracy reaches 5.4′′, which further demonstrates the feasibility of the encoder's encoding and decoding scheme.

Abstract:The majority of encoder signal process circuits only support one type of the specific photoelectric encoder, either absolute encoder or incremental encoder. In order to realize the compatibility for both two types of encoders simultaneously, a novel encoder signal process circuit based on FPGA is presented in this paper. Firstly, a series of universal functions are analyzed and demonstrated. On this basis, the approaches on multiplexing interfaces is designed and verified by simulation. Importantly, the compatibility is solved by multiplexing pins of the IC chip in terms of the hardware interface. As for the software interface, FPGA internal signal acquisition and processing programs deal with the different encoder protocols. Finally, two different types of encoders are concurrently connected to the circuit for system testing. The result indicates that the real-time angular position curve is smooth and the measured angle value is accurately displayed on the host computer. Consequently, the stability and compatibility are successfully proven. Besides, those expensive dedicated interface circuits could be replaced by the proposed circuit, as well as the costs can be significantly reduced. The circuit is ideal for applications requiring high resolution and fast data acquisition in industrial control fields.

Abstract:The photoelectric encoder is a kind of encoder that uses high-precision metrology grating as the detection element to convert the input angular position information into corresponding digital signals through the photo-electric conversion device. It has the advantages of high resolution and wide measuring range, so it is widely used in precision angle measuring devices and high-precision speed regulating systems. In this study, an incremental photoelectric encoder is used, and a receiving system of vertical incidence is chosen, covering a photocell receiving circuit and an infrared circuit. The signal acquisition device of the photoelectric encoder is further designed, that is, the weak photoelectric signal is captured and transformed into an electrical signal that can be recognized by the microprocessor after amplification and adjustment, and then the signal is processed and transmitted. In the test, the signal output of the photoelectric encoder is simulated first. The results reveal that the theoretical output voltage of the drive is 3.5 V, and the peak of the actual output signal is 7.2 V, which meets the design requirements. The designed photoelectric encoder signal device is used with the charge coupled device (CCD) camera to capture the track image. The single-camera and dual-camera tests are carried out respectively. The speed of the bearing vehicle is adjusted to 0.6 m/s~1.2 m/s, and the velocity of the vehicle is adjusted timely. The findings show that the signal device of the photoelectric encoder +CCD camera can be triggered in real-time with the different speeds of the vehicle, and obtain relatively clear images of the track surface and its image of the fastener.

Abstract:As a precision position sensor, the photoelectric encoder has difficulty avoiding eccentricity or tilt error in the industrial manufacturing and assembly process. At present, manual error correction is often used to adjust. The adjustment efficiency is low, and it has difficulty cooperating with other types of error compensation methods. In view of these problems, we proposed a photoelectric encoder eccentricity error detection and compensation method based on digital signal bandpass filtering that effectively corrects the signal deviation caused by the installation eccentricity in the output signal and judges the direction and magnitude of the eccentricity error to realize the encoding correction of eccentricity and inclination error of the device. The mathematical model of the eccentric error generation principle of the photoelectric encoder combined with the Lissajous figure was derived. We then demonstrated the design of a photoelectric encoder error detection platform to detect photoelectric encoders of different diameters in real time. Finally, using the advantages of field programmable gate array high-speed parallel processing, the error compensation algorithm was written into the development chip to improve the efficiency of processing the encoder output error signal. This method can adapt to the eccentricity error correction and compensation of different models of photoelectric encoders and can greatly improve the efficiency and accuracy compared with previous detection methods.

Abstract:Based on the structure of a photoelectric encoder,the reason for errors appearing in export pulses was discussed when the encoder frequently alternates direction.A simpler and more useful phase discriminator was designed because the export pulses can not change at the same time.This circuit marks the state of export pulses when one instantaneously changes,to effectively filter the errors in export pulses by some logical calculation.The laboratory application of the filtercircuit testifies that this circuit has preferable effect on filtering errors.And a new method is offered in order to improve the inside circuit of encoder and deal with the pulses of encoder export in digital signal processing(DSP) chip.

Abstract:Eddy current displacement sensor (ECDS) is a common shaft displacement measuring device for various motors. Its output characteristic is partly linear, while the whole is non-linear. This characteristic limits its linear ranges of the sensor. This paper proposes a piecewise linearization method based on the inverse function of its output characteristic, which is used to improve linearity and expand linear range. This method constructs a piecewise linearization circuit based on the inverse function of the output characteristic, and then connects this circuit in series after the ECDS to realize the linearization of its output characteristic. Finally, the feasibility of this method is verified by experiments.

Abstract:Photoelectric encoders are widely used in high-precision measurement fields such as industry and aerospace because of their high precision and reliability. In order to improve the subdivision accuracy of moiré grating signals, a particle swarm optimization compensation model for grating the subdivision error of a photoelectric encoder based on parallel iteration is proposed. In the paper, an adaptive subdivision method of a particle swarm search domain based on the honeycomb structure is proposed, and a raster signal subdivision error compensation model based on the multi-swarm particle swarm optimization algorithm based on parallel iteration is established. The optimization algorithm can effectively improve the convergence speed and system accuracy of traditional particle swarm optimization. Finally, according to the subdivision error compensation algorithm, the subdivision error of the grating system caused by the sinusoidal error in the system is quickly corrected by taking advantage of the high-speed parallel processing of the FPGA pipeline architecture. The design experiment uses a 25-bit photoelectric encoder to verify the subdivision error algorithm. The experimental results show that the actual dynamic subdivision error can be reduced to 1⁄2 before compensation, and the static subdivision error can be reduced from 1.264" to 0.487" before detection.

Abstract:Compared with an optical encoder, the structure of a magnetic rotary encoder is very simple and not affected in dust and mist condition. But its resolution and accuracy are low and difficult to be improved, so the application was limited. The disadvantage of conventional processing method was discussed deeply and a novel signal-processing method based on looking-up table was proposed to improve accuracy of the single pair-pole encoder. The magnetic filed, which was changed when the motor was rotating, was sensed through six Halls placed along a circle evenly, three voltage-signals were get through difference. A higher resolution optical encoder was used to calibrate the magnetic encoder and the data of the angle was stored in EEPROM off-line. While the encoder was in working state, the angle was got through looking-up table according to different voltage-signal in different region, all of the processing was done by FPFA. A single pair-pole magnetic rotary encoder was made according to this method and its characters were tested. The result shows that its accuracy is 14-bits (16384 lines) and resolution can achieve to 15-bits. It can be used in a badly condition where a high-accuracy position-detecting must be realized.

Abstract:This paper presents an electronic subdviving method for linear encoder of high speed position detection. The method aims to enhance the resolution of position measurement and improve the precision of noncircular component cutting system. A 20-subdividing circuit based on resistor chain phase shift is researched and implemented, and some key technologies are discussed. The method is proved to be successful in raising the resolution and precision with a high speed response. The experiment result proves that electronic subdividing method is doable and effective to raise the resolution of the existing system.
