Abstract:The system of noncommutative linear logic defined by V.M. Amusci is extended to contain intuitive logic, commutative logic and cyclic linear logic as special cases. The semantics of this logic in showing its soundness and completeness by dual quantales is given.

Abstract:Lawvere showed that generalised metric spaces are categories enriched over $[0, \infty]$, the quantale of the positive extended reals. The statement of enrichment is a quantitative analogue of being a preorder. Towards seeking a logic for quantitative metric reasoning, we investigate three $[0,\infty]$-valued propositional logics over the Lawvere quantale. The basic logical connectives shared by all three logics are those that can be interpreted in any quantale, viz finite conjunctions and disjunctions, tensor (addition for the Lawvere quantale) and linear implication (here a truncated subtraction); to these we add, in turn, the constant $1$ to express integer values, and scalar multiplication by a non-negative real to express general affine combinations. Quantitative equational logic can be interpreted in the third logic if we allow inference systems instead of axiomatic systems. For each of these logics we develop a natural deduction system which we prove to be decidably complete w.r.t. the quantale-valued semantics. The heart of the completeness proof makes use of the Motzkin transposition theorem. Consistency is also decidable; the proof makes use of Fourier-Motzkin elimination of linear inequalities. Strong completeness does not hold in general, even (as is known) for theories over finitely-many propositional variables; indeed even an approximate form of strong completeness in the sense of Pavelka or Ben Yaacov -- provability up to arbitrary precision -- does not hold. However, we can show it for theories axiomatized by a (not necessarily finite) set of judgements in normal form over a finite set of propositional variables when we restrict to models that do not map variables to $\infty$; the proof uses Hurwicz's general form of the Farkas' Lemma.

Abstract:Based on the concept of the complete lattice satisfying the first and second infinite distributive laws, the present paper introduces the semantics of the lattice-valued modal propositional logic. It is pointed out that this semantics generalizes the semantics of both classical modal propositional logic and [0, 1]-valued modal propositional logic. The definition of the QMR 0-algebra is proposed, and both the Boole-typed latticevalued modal propositional logic system B and the QMR 0-typed lattice-valued modal propositional logic system QML* are constructed by use of Boole-algebras and QMR 0-algebras, respectively. The main results of the paper are the completeness theorems of both the system B and QML*.

Abstract:As the logic of propositions of quantum measurements,G.Birkhoff and J.von Neumann's quantum logic has been regarded as including Orthogonal complement that is weaker than classic negation,quantum disjunction that is neither classical logic nor distributive,and poset that is a non-Boolean algebra.Based on the unitary operator functional analyses,this paper points out that those apparent nonclassic features of quantum logic are only classic functional nature,and the non-distribution ∩(x ∪ x_) = y ∩1 = y,but(y ∩ x) ∪(y ∩ x_) = ∪ 0 = x at the benzene ring can not be correct.

Abstract:The concept of truth degree of formulas in diverse propositional logic systems is proposed, and the concepts of similarity degree and pseudo-metric among formulas are introduced therefrom. Basic properties of the induced logic metric space are investigated, of which theories of divergency degree and consistency degree of a logic theory are developed, and three types of approximate reasoning models are proposed as well, and an elementary quantitative logic theory is hence established.

Abstract:The concept of n-valued modal model for multi-value modal logics is introduced in this paper,and the corresponding semantics are constructed.The study points out this kind of semantics and generalizes the semantics for classical modal logics.The definition of W,R n-typed frame is presented,under which the localized mappings induced by modal formulae are constructed,and the concept of localized truth degree for modal formulae is introduced.It is obtained that the localized truth degree for any modal formula can be computed as the one for some modal formula without modalities in the same possible world.Based on these,the concept of global truth degree for modal formulae is introduced.It has been shown that whenever a modal formula contains no modalities,its global truth degree coincides with its truth degree in the common propositional logics.

Abstract:Graded modal logics generalise standard modal logics via families of modalities indexed by an algebraic structure whose operations mediate between the different modalities. The graded "of-course" modality $!_r$ captures how many times a proposition is used and has an analogous interpretation to the of-course modality from linear logic; the of-course modality from linear logic can be modelled by a linear exponential comonad and graded of-course can be modelled by a graded linear exponential comonad. Benton showed in his seminal paper on Linear/Non-Linear logic that the of-course modality can be split into two modalities connecting intuitionistic logic with linear logic, forming a symmetric monoidal adjunction. Later, Fujii et al. demonstrated that every graded comonad can be decomposed into an adjunction and a `strict action'. We give a similar result to Benton, leveraging Fujii et al.'s decomposition, showing that graded modalities can be split into two modalities connecting a graded logic with a graded linear logic. We propose a sequent calculus, its proof theory and categorical model, and a natural deduction system which we show is isomorphic to the sequent calculus system. Interestingly, our system can also be understood as Linear/Non-Linear logic composed with an action that adds the grading, further illuminating the shared principles between linear logic and a class of graded modal logics.

A Modal Nonmonotonic Logic

Abstract:A modal nonmonotonic logic is presented based on an experiential modal semantics on typicality and exception. The syntactic and semantics of modal nonmonotonic logic are provided and the completeness theorem and the theorems relating it to major nonmonotonic logics are proved. It directly formalizes the intuition of nonmonotonic reasoning. Among other things, it provides us a first-order extension of default logic and autoepistemic logic, and simultaneously has the capability of circumscription to infer universal statement. It has important applications in logic programming and deductive data base. As a result, it provides a uniform basis for various nonmonotonic logics, from which the correspondent relationship among major nonmonotonic logics can coincide.

Abstract:We consider a simple modal logic whose non-modal part has conjunction and disjunction as connectives and whose modalities come in adjoint pairs, but are not in general closure operators. Despite absence of negation and implication, and of axioms corresponding to the characteristic axioms of (e.g.) T, S4 and S5, such logics are useful, as shown in previous work by Baltag, Coecke and the first author, for encoding and reasoning about information and misinformation in multi-agent systems. For such a logic we present an algebraic semantics, using lattices with agent-indexed families of adjoint pairs of operators, and a cut-free sequent calculus. The calculus exploits operators on sequents, in the style of "nested" or "tree-sequent" calculi; cut-admissibility is shown by constructive syntactic methods. The applicability of the logic is illustrated by reasoning about the muddy children puzzle, for which the calculus is augmented with extra rules to express the facts of the muddy children scenario.

Finite Automata Based on Quantum Logic and Monadic Second-Order Quantum Logic

Abstract:We introduce monadic second-order quantum logic and prove that the behaviors of finite automata based on quantum logic are precisely the quantum languages definable with sentences of our monadic second-order quantum logic. This generalizes Büchi’s and Elgot’s fundamental theorems to quantum logic setting. We also consider first-order quantum logic and show that star-free quantum languages and aperiodic quantum languages introduced here coincide with the first-order quantum definable ones. This generalizes Schützenberger’s fundamental theorems to quantum logic setting. The determinazation of finite automata based on quantum logic is studied by introducing the generalized subset construction method. Then the Kleene theorem in the frame of quantum logic is presented here.
A characterization of Continuous Logic by using quantale-valued logics

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a generalization of Continuous Logic ([BBHU08]) where the distances take values in suitable co-quantales (in the way as it was proposed in [Fla97]). By assuming suitable conditions (e.g., being co-divisible, co-Girard and a V-domain), we provide, as test questions, a proof of a version of the Tarski-Vaught test (Proposition 4.2) and Łoś Theorem (Theorem 5.27) in our setting. Iovino proved in [Iov01] that there is no any logic extending (equivalent logics to) Continuous Logic satisfying both Countable Tarski-Vaught chain Theorem and Compactness Theorem. Since [0, 1] satisfies all of the assumptions given above, we get new logics by dropping any of those assumptions.

A substructural logic for quantum measurements

Abstract:This paper presents a substructural logic of sequents with very restricted exchange and weakening rules. It is sound with respect to sequences of measurements of a quantic system. A sound and complete semantics is provided. The semantic structures include a binary relation that expresses orthogonality between elements and enables the definition of an operation that generalizes the projection operation in Hilbert spaces. The language has a unitary connective, a sort of negation, and two dual binary connectives that are neither commutative nor associative, sorts of conjunction and disjunction. This provides a logic for quantum measurements whose proof theory is aesthetically pleasing.

On Quantifiers for Quantitative Reasoning

Abstract:We explore a kind of first-order predicate logic with intended semantics in the reals. Compared to other approaches in the literature, we work predominantly in the multiplicative reals $[0,\infty]$, showing they support three generations of connectives, that we call non-linear, linear additive, and linear multiplicative. Means and harmonic means emerge as natural candidates for bounded existential and universal quantifiers, and in fact we see they behave as expected in relation to the other logical connectives. We explain this fact through the well-known fact that min/max and arithmetic mean/harmonic mean sit at opposite ends of a spectrum, that of p-means. We give syntax and semantics for this quantitative predicate logic, and as example applications, we show how softmax is the quantitative semantics of argmax, and Rényi entropy/Hill numbers are additive/multiplicative semantics of the same formula. Indeed, the additive reals also fit into the story by exploiting the Napierian duality $-\log \dashv 1/\exp$, which highlights a formal distinction between 'additive' and 'multiplicative' quantities. Finally, we describe two attempts at a categorical semantics via enriched hyperdoctrines. We discuss why hyperdoctrines are in fact probably inadequate for this kind of logic.

Abstract:Continuous Markovian Logic (CML) is a multimodal logic that expresses quantitative and qualitative properties of continuous-time labelled Markov processes with arbitrary (analytic) state-spaces, henceforth called continuous Markov processes (CMPs). The modalities of CML evaluate the rates of the exponentially distributed random variables that characterize the duration of the labeled transitions of a CMP. In this paper we present weak and strong complete axiomatizations for CML and prove a series of metaproperties, including the finite model property and the construction of canonical models. CML characterizes stochastic bisimilarity and it supports the definition of a quantified extension of the satisfiability relation that measures the "compatibility" between a model and a property. In this context, the metaproperties allows us to prove two robustness theorems for the logic stating that one can perturb formulas and maintain "approximate satisfaction".

Abstract:Quasi-Boolean modal algebras are quasi-Boolean algebras with a modal operator satisfying the interaction axiom. Sequential quasi-Boolean modal logics and the relational semantics are introduced. Kripke-completeness for some quasi-Boolean modal logics is shown by the canonical model method. We show that every descriptive persistent quasi-Boolean modal logic is canonical. The finite model property of some quasi-Boolean modal logics is proved. A cut-free Gentzen sequent calculus for the minimal quasi-Boolean logic is developed and we show that it has the Craig interpolation property.

Abstract:This paper gives a formulation of quantum logic in the abstract algebraic setting laid out by Dunn and Hardegree (2001). On this basis, it provides a comparative analysis of viable quantum logical bivalent semantics and their classical counterparts, thereby showing that the truth-functional status of classical and quantum connectives is not as different as usually thought. Then it points out that bivalent semantics for quantum logic - compatible with realism about quantum mechanics - can be maintained, albeit at the price of truth-functionality. Finally, but more importantly, the paper significantly improves on Hellman's argument (1980) that this lack of truth-functionality entails a change of meaning between classical and quantum connectives.

Abstract:Based on the concept of linear Boolean functions in cryptology, the concept of linearlogic formulae in classical logic metric space is proposed. And methods of construction of n-ray linear logic formulae are given. In classical logic metric space, the properties of linear logic formulae under reflexive transformation are studied. It is proved that the truth degrees of all linear logic formulae are equal to 1/2. And properties of some logic formulae induced by Boolean functions of degree equaling to k are studied and it is proved that the truth degrees of these logic formulae are equal to 1/2^k.
