Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of mild hypothermia on severe brain injury by somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP). Methods Fifty five patients with severe brain injury were recorded with Glascow coma scale (GCS) and SEP on the 1 st and 8 th day postoperatively, and divided randomly into treatment and control groups. The treatment group of 35 patients were induced with mild hypothermia and e-valuated with GCS and SEP pre- and postoperatively. Results The GCS and SEP in treatment group were significantly superior than that in controls after mild hypothermia therapy (P0.05). The GOS in hypothermia group was superior than that in control group (P0.05) by following up 6 months. Conclusion Mild hypothermia is an effective therapeutic approach in severe brain injury, and SEP is an useful objective evaluation index.
