The Clinical Evaluation of Hyperbaric Oxygen Supplementary Therapy in the Treatment of Severe Traumatic Brain Injury after Craniotomy

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on the treatment of severe traumatic brain injury (Glasgow coma scale,GCS8) Methods: For 228 cases of patients with hematoma with GCS under 8,hematoma evacuation was done or bone flaps removed at the same time within 24 hours at admission. 120 cases in the treatment group were given HBO therapy and the regular therapy; The other 108 cases in the control group were given the regular therapy. Glasgow coma scale (GCS) after 4 weeks and Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) after 6 months were evaluated.Results: Significant differences were shown between the two groups in GCS after 4 weeks and in GOS after 6 months (P0.01).Conclusion:HBO supplementary therapy had satisfied effect on patients′ recovery in the treatment of severe traumatic brain injury.
