Abstract:Objectives]To investigate the role of Glasgow coma scale(GCS) in judgment of the severity and prognostic prediction for mild head injury (MHI) as well as to explore the relationship between GCS and other clinical features of MHI.The clinical features within first 24 hours , the positive rate of CT scanning, the rate of skull fracture and the frequency of neurosurgical intervention in 526 patients with MHI were reviewed retrospectively. As for the clinical features within first 24 h ,χ 2 analysis revealed statistically significant differences among patients with GCS of 13 versus 14,13 versus 15 and 14 versus 15, suggesting the existence of distinct difference in severity of cranial injury among patients with GCS of 13~15.[Conclusions]The segregation of patients with GCS of l5 from those of 13 and 14 should be seriously considered during study on the results of neurological behavior in MHI.This can strengthen understanding of the relationship between severity and prognosis of MHI, providing also the basis for its precise clinical diagnosis and management.
