A Method for Calculating the Heats of Formation of Medium-Sized and Large-Sized Molecules

Abstract:A calculation method for heats of formation (HOF, referred to as △Hf) based on the density functional theory (DFT) is presented in this work. Similar to Gaussian-3 theory, the atomic scheme is applied to calculate the heats of formation of the molecules. In this method, we have modified the formula for calculation of Gaussian-3 theory in several ways, including the correction for diffuse functions and the correction for higher polarization functions. These corrections are found to be significant. The average absolute deviation from experiment for the 164 calculated heats of formation is about 1.9 kcal·mol?1, while average absolute deviation from G3MP2 for the 149 (among the 164 molecules, 15 large-sized molecules can not be calculated at the G3MP2 level) calculated heats of formation is only about 1.9 kcal·mol?1. It indicates that the present method can be applied to predict the heats of formation of medium-sized and large-sized molecules, while the heats of formation of these molecules using Gaussian-3 theory are much difficult, even impossible, to calculate. That is, this method provides a choice in the calculation of △Hf for medium-sized and large-sized molecules.

Abstract:The leading terms in the large-$R$ asymptotics of the functional of the one-electron reduced density matrix for the ground-state energy of the H$_2$ molecule with the internuclear separation $R$ is derived thanks to the solution of the phase dilemma at the $R \to \infty$ limit. At this limit, the respective natural orbitals (NOs) are given by symmetric and antisymmetric combinations of "half-space" orbitals with the corresponding natural amplitudes of the same amplitudes but opposite signs. Minimization of the resulting explicit functional yields the large-$R$ asymptotics for the occupation numbers of the weakly occupied NOs and the $C_6$ dispersion coefficient. The highly accurate approximates for the radial components of the $p$-type "half-space" orbitals and the corresponding occupation numbers (that decay like $R^{-6}$), which are available for the first time thanks to the development of the present formalism, have some unexpected properties.

Abstract:Employing a relativistic version of a hypervirial result, recurrence relations for arbitrary non-diagonal radial hydrogenic matrix elements have recently been obtained in Dirac relativistic quantum mechanics. In this contribution honoring Professor Löwdin, we report on a new relation we have recently discovered between the matrix elements $<2| r^\lambda |1 >$ and $<2|\beta r^\lambda |1>$---where $\beta$ is a Dirac matrix and the numbers distiguish between different radial eigenstates--- that allow for a simplification and hence for a more convenient way of expressing the recurrence relations. We additionally derive another relation that can be employed for simplifying two center matrix element calculations in relativistic atomic or molecular calculations.

Abstract:The large amount of data accumulated at LEP2 by the ALEPH experiment has been used to search for supersymmetric particles. No signal has been found therefore limits have been determined. Within the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, the constraints from direct SUSY searches of charginos, sleptons and neutralinos, are combined to extract a lower limit on the mass of the neutralino considered to be the Lightest Supersymmetric particle. An improved limit is obtained when the limit on the Higgs mass is included. Neutralino masses up to 38 GeV/c^2 are excluded at 95 % confidence level.

Abstract:High-accuracy solution of the Dirac equation for three-dimensional (3D) hydrogen atom is theoretically presented using a variationally optimized diagonalization method. By imposing the asymptotical conditions, a complete set of orthogonal Laguerre basis functions is constructed explicitly for the solution of the Dirac equation, which eliminates the singularity difficulty at the point nucleus and gives a convergent integral. A fully explicit expression of the matrix elements of the Dirac Hamiltonian has been derived from the method of the generating function of Laguerre polynomials. The relative errors of the relativistic energies are ranged from 11 to 14 digits, showing that the calculated relativistic energies are in excellent agreement with the exact energies. These results show that my proposed orthogonal Laguerre basis set is extremely efficient and stable in calculating high-accuracy solution of the Dirac equation for 3D hydrogen atom.

Abstract:Under the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, the exact solution of the Schrodinger equation for a two-dimensional hydrogen molecular ion is obtained through separation of variables. The inter-quantum numbers and the modes of internal motion are determined by analysing the nodal structure of the wavefunction. The eigenstates are classified and the classical periodic orbits corresponding to the modes of internal motion are found.

Abstract:The accurate radial expectation values are important for the study of atom and molecular properties. In this paper, a STO set calculated by Raothaan-Hartree-Fork method was used to design systematically the data base of the radial expectation values of the ground neutral atoms and their orbits(Z=2 - 54). Abstract:A simple method of variational calculations of the electronic structure of a two-electron atom/ion, primarily near the nucleus, is proposed. The method as a whole consists of a standard solution of a generalized matrix eigenvalue equation, all matrix elements of which are reduced to a numerical calculation of one-dimensional integrals. Distinctive features of the method are: The use of the hyperspherical coordinate system. The inclusion of logarithms of the hyperspherical radius $R$ in the basis functions, similar to the Fock expansion. Using a special basis function including the leading angular Fock coefficients to provide the correct behavior of the wave function near the nucleus. The main numerical parameters characterizing the properties of the helium atom and a number of helium-like ions near the nucleus are calculated and presented in tables. Among others, the specific coefficients $a_{21}$ of the Fock expansion, which can only be calculated using a wave function with the correct behavior near the nucleus, are presented in table and graphs.

Abstract:A simple trial function is used to investigate the effect of radial-angular electron correlation in a two-electron system from the helium atom to the hydrogen molecule continuously. The ionic part of the trial function retains the main feature of Chandrasekhar's H- correlated two-electron wave function. The electron correlation is also demonstrated with the computed two-particle function.

Abstract:We have performed self-consistent Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (BHF) and its renormalized theory to the structure calculations of finite nuclei. The $G$-matrix is calculated within the BHF basis, and the exact Pauli exclusion operator is determined by the BHF spectrum. Self-consistent occupation probabilities are included in the renormalized Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF). Various systematics and convergences are studies. Good results are obtained for the ground-state energy and radius. RBHF can give a more reasonable single-particle spectrum and radius. We present a first benchmark calculation with other {\it ab initio} methods using the same effective Hamiltonian. We find that the BHF and RBHF results are in good agreement with other $\it{ab}$ $\it{initio}$ methods.

Abstract:The applicability of nuclear {\it ab initio} calculations has rapidly extended over the past decades. However, starting research projects is still challenging due to the required numerical expertise in the generation of underlying nuclear interaction matrix elements and many-body calculations. To ease the first issue, in this paper we introduce the numerical code \texttt{NuHamil} to generate the nucleon-nucleon (NN) and three-nucleon (3N) matrix elements expressed in a spherical harmonic-oscillator basis, inputs of many-body calculations. The ground-state energies for the selected doubly closed shell nuclei are calculated with the no-core shell-model (NCSM) and in-medium similarity renormalization group (IMSRG). The code is written in modern Fortran, and OpenMP+MPI hybrid parallelization is available for the 3N matrix-element calculations.

Calculating the many-potential vacuum polarization density of the Dirac equation in the finite-basis approximation

Abstract:In this work, we propose an efficient and accurate computational method to evaluate the many-potential $\alpha\left(Z\alpha\right)^{n\ge3}$ vacuum polarization density of hydrogen-like atoms within the finite-basis approximation of the Dirac equation. To prove the performance of our computational method, we choose to work with the one-electron $_{\,\,\,92}^{238}\text{U}$ atom. In summary, we find that compliance with charge conjugation symmetry is a priori required to obtain physical results that are in line with our knowledge of the analytical problem. We also note that the final numerical results are found to be in excellent agreement with previous formal analytical (and numerical) evaluations that are limited to a few simple nuclear distribution models. Our technique can be efficiently implemented and evaluated in codes that solve the radial Dirac equation in the finite basis set framework and allows the use of arbitrary (radial) nuclear charge distribution. The obtained numerical results of the non-perturbative vacuum polarization density automatically account for the extended nuclear size effect. This method is hence of special importance for atomic Dirac problems whose analytical Green's functions expressions are not at hand or have relatively complicated analytical forms. Furthermore, we propose a vacuum polarization density formula that forces compliance with charge conjugation symmetry and can be used in cases where the relativistic basis violates this symmetry, as is the case in most relativistic basis set programs. In addition, we have shown that vector components of the vacuum polarization four-current vanish in the case where the Dirac Hamiltonian is symmetric under time-reversal symmetry.

Abstract:We present new sum rules for $3jm$ coefficients, which involve, in addition to the usual weighting factor $(2j + 1)$ where $j$ is an angular momentum, the quantity $[j(j + 1)]^k$ with $k \ge 1$. The sum rules appear for instance in the statistical modeling of rotational spectra within the theory of moments, and enable one to deduce the expectation values of $r^k$ (used in the theory of Stark effect for hydrogenic ions) in parabolic coordinates from the expectation values of $r^k$ in spherical coordinates.

Abstract:We find the unitary operator for diagonalizing the Hamiltonian of a triatomic linear molecule. The unitary operator is expressed in a coordinate representation that brings convenience for deriving the density matrix \ensuremath{\rho}(${\mathrm{x}}_{1}$,${\mathrm{x}}_{2}$,${\mathrm{x}}_{3}$;${\mathrm{x}}_{1}^{\ensuremath{'}}$,${\mathrm{x}}_{2}^{\ensuremath{'}}$,${\mathrm{x}}_{3}^{\ensuremath{'}}$,\ensuremath{\beta}). The unitary transformation approach is simple because the derivation can be reduced to the calculation of two independent harmonic-oscillator density matrices and one free-particle density matrix. The average of the potential energy and the kinetic of the molecule is calculated by using the density matrix.
