Abstract:To obtain the fundamental solutions for computation of magneto-electro-elastic media by the boundary element method, the general solutions in the case of distinct eigenvalues are derived and expressed in five harmonic functions from the governing equations and the strict differential operator theorem. On the basis of these general solutions, the fundamental solution of infinite magneto-electro-elastic solid are obtained with the method of trial-and-error. Finally, the boundary integral formulation is derived and the corresponding boundary element method program is implemented to perform two numerical calculations (a column under uni-axial tension, uniform electric displacement or uniform magnetic induction, an annular plate simply-supported on outer and inner surfaces under axial loads). The numerical results agree well with the analytical ones.

Abstract:With the assumption of radial vibration, there exists only a trivial solution for a general orthotropic hollow sphere and the nonzero solution can be obtained only for a spherically isotropic hollow sphere (a special case of the orthotropic hollow sphere) and the corresponding proofs are presented. So, the numerical results given by Stavsky and Greenberg [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 113, 847–851 (2003)] for a general orthotropic hollow sphere are unreasonable.

Abstract:In this paper, we first supplement two groups of simplified general solution based on previous work. Those results are in terms of harmonic functions and fit for the cases of multiple eigenvalues. Then by trial and error, we obtain the fundamental solutions for three cases for a piezoelectric infinite media by giving the expressions of harmonic functions. Finally, by use of those solutions, we implement a boundary element method program to perform numerical calculations. The numerical results agree well with the analytical ones. Abstract:A method with two harmonic functions is proposed for solving transversely isotropic axisymmetric problems by applying the theorems of Refs. [1] and [5]. A series of simple formulas of the boundary least square collocation method is derived. Two engineering examples show that the present method is much more convenient than Lekhniskii's with biharmonic functions. Some useful conclusions are finally obtained.

Abstract:A general solution for the equilibrium equations of piezoelectric media under body forces is obtained. With regard to the transversely isotropic piezoelectric material, closed forms for the displacements and electric potential function for an infinite solid loaded with point forces and point charge are then obtained by using the general solution together with potential theory and constructing a kind of harmonic functions. Thus, the fundamental solutions which are utilizable in boundary element method are obtained.

Abstract:Based on the governing equations of transversely isotropic magnetoelectroelastic media, four general solutions on the cases of distinct eigenvalues and multiple eigenvalues are given and expressed in five mono-harmonic displacement functions. Then, based on these general solutions, employing the trial-and-error method, the three-dimensional Green’s functions of infinite, two-phase and semi-infinite magnetoelectroelastic media under point forces, point charge and magnetic monopole are all presented in terms of elementary functions for all cases of distinct eigenvalues and multiple eigenvalues. Numerical results are also presented.

Abstract:Representing rotational symmetry vector as a set of vectors is not suitable for design due to lacking of a consistent ordering for measurement. In this paper we introduce a spectral method to find rotation invariant harmonic functions for symmetry vector field design. This method is developed for 3D vector fields, but it is applicable in 2D. Given the finite symmetry group G of a symmetry vector field v(x) on a 3D domain Omega, we formulate the harmonic function h (s) as a stationary point of group G. Using the real spherical harmonic (SH) bases, we showed the coefficients of the harmonic functions are an eigenvector of the SH rotation matrices corresponding to group G. Instead of solving eigen problems to obtain the eigenvector, we developed a forward constructive method based on orthogonal group theory. The harmonic function found by our method is not only invariant under G, but also expressive and can distinguish different rotations with respect to G. At last, we demonstrate some vector field design results with tetrahedron-symmetry, cube-symmetry and dodecahedron-symmetry groups.

Abstract:The area co-ordinate method, which is an efficient tool in the construction of triangular elements, has been recently generalized to construct straight-sided quadrilateral elements. In this paper, the differential and integral formulae for area co-ordinates in quadrilateral elements are presented. Abstract:We present a Pfaffian formula to calculate matrix elements of three-body operators in symmetry-restoration beyond-mean-field methods, including the case of multiple quasiparticle (qp) configurations. Detailed derivation is provided and the validity of the new formula is checked numerically. The corresponding efficiency is discussed, which turns out to be about five times (one order of magnitude) higher than the conventional method when four (less than four) qp operators are considered.

Abstract:Equivalent resonator method is an important method for analyzing a multielement resonator. If it is used correctly, a complex analysis of resonator can be greatly simplified. In this paper, equivalent resonators of multielement resonators were analyzed by using optics transfer matrix. Some concepts and methods about equivalent resonators were developed. The analytic relations between general multielement resonators and their equivalent resonators were derived, and a group of unvariables were obtained. Furthermore, authors put forward correction and accurate points of view about the equivalent resonators. The analysis proposed in this paper makes the equivalent resonator method more practical and accurate.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the definition of Q factor for nonlinear oscillators. While available definitions of Q are often limited to linear resonators or oscillators with specific topologies, our definition is applicable to any oscillator as a figure of merit for its amplitude stability. It can be formulated rigorously and computed numerically from oscillator equations. With this definition, we calculate and analyze the Q factors of several oscillators of different types. The results confirm that the proposed Q formulation is a useful addition to the characterization techniques for oscillators.
