Abstract:Two kinds of acrylate-modified polyesters were synthesized, one of the two is semi-crystalline while the other is amorphous, and the UV-curable powder coatings with two components can be made up by mixing these two kinds of polyesters in different ratios. Experiments show that the introduction of semi-crystalline polyester into the coating will substantially improve the direct and reverse impact resistance and the crosshatch adhesion of the cured film while the other general properties of the UV-curable powder coatings remain excellent.

Abstract:A series of waterborne UV-curable polyurethane acrylates were synthesized.Their coatings properties were investigated.The influences of radiation time,film thickness,photoinitiator dosage,molecular structure and other factors on the coating properties were discussed.Therefore a series of UV curable polyurethane acrylate emulsions with excellent mechanical properties and decorative effect.The crosshatch adhensions of the coatings were between 0 and 1.Impact strengths are above 50 cm.The pencil hardness of the coatings film are over 3H.

Abstract:Fixing carbon dioxide (CO2) into polymeric materials is a subject of enduring interest but limited to very few efficient polymerizations. In this work, a facile Pd(OAc)(2)/(LiOBu)-Bu-t-catalyzed one-pot, three-component polymerization of CO2, bis(propargylic alcohol)s, and aryl dihalides under atmospheric pressure is developed. Linear and hyperbranched multifunctional five-membered cyclic carbonate (5CC)-based polymers with welldefined structures, high weight-average molecular weights (M-w up to 42500), and versatile properties such as aggregation-induced emission as well as chiral and porous properties are successfully produced in excellent yields (up to 96%). The reaction mechanism was well investigated via the density functional theory calculation and in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, both indicating that there is synergistic reaction effect among CO2, bis(propargylic alcohols, and aryl dihalides. The polymers could be postfunctionalized by amines via catalyst-free regioselective ring-opening reaction with 100% grafting ratio. Thus, this work not only develops a new way to directly fix CO2 into polymeric materials but also provides the 5CC-based polymers with versatile properties, showing great potentials in diverse areas.
Effects of Active Diluents on Solidifying Process of UV-curing Reaction for Polyurethane Acrylate

Abstract:Tripropylene glycol diacrylate (TPGDA) with two functional groups and trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) with three functional groups were chosen as the active diluents for the UV-curing reaction of polyurethane acrylate, respectively. Diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide (TPO) was chosen as the photo initiator. The effects of different active diluents on the viscosity of the system, solidifying time, the surface sticky degree, max tensile-strength, rate of rupture elongation and adherence capability of the solidified films were studied. It was found that when the weight content of TPGDA was 30%, the viscosity of the system could be reduced greatly, and the solidified films had the highest rate of rupture elongation and the best adherence capability. When the weight content of TMPTA was 15%, the solidifying time could be reduced greatly, and the solidified films had the highest max tensile-strength and the best adherence capability.

Abstract:A series of poly(aroxycarbonyltriazole)s (PACTs) with high molecular weights and regioregularities is prepared in excellent yields by the metal‐free click polymerization (MFCP) of dipropiolate (1) and diazides (2) in dimethylformamide (DMF) at 100 °C for 6 h. The MFCPs can proceed smoothly in an open atmosphere, without protection from oxygen and moisture. The PACTs show good solubility and processability. They are thermally stable and the temperatures of their 5% weight‐loss are higher than 363 °C. The polymers exhibit high optical transparency and refractive indices with low chromatic dispersions. Moreover, the polymer film containing benzophenone units can be cross‐linked upon UV irradiation to generate negative photoresist patterns with high resolution. image

Abstract:A series of fluorine-containing acrylate copolymers were prepared by 60Co γ-ray radiation co-polymerization in a mixed acrylate system, including butyl acrylate, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide and perfluoroalkylethyl methacrylate (FMA). The yield of the copolymers reached 96% when they were radiated for 34h with the radiation dose of 1kGy/h. Moreover, the surface structure and properties of the copolymers were determined by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and contact angle (CA) analysis. And the glass-transition temperature was measured by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). It was found that the fluoropolymer was of large water static contact angle and fluorine was enriched at the polymer–air interface. The relationship between the copolymer composition, annealed temperature and static contact angle was also discussed in detail. Furthermore, when the FMA content reached 3%, the cotton treated with our products exhibited better oil repellency.

Abstract:We report the Synthesis of a new hydrocarbon copolymer which is soluble in supercritical carbon dioxide. Poly(vinyl acetate-alt-dibutyl maleate) (PVAc-alt-PDBM) copolymer was synthesized by free-radical polymerization mediated by the RAFT technique. Liquid CO2 extraction was performed to remove the residual monomer and solvent from the final product. The solubility of the copolymers was measured in a variable volume view cell at temperatures between 25 and 75 degrees C. The phase behavior of the copolymer in CO, was studied in terms of its molecular weight and concentration in the solvent. It was found that the copolymer shows good solubility in CO, approaching that of perfluoropolyether (PFPE) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) monomethacrylate (PDMS-mMA).

Abstract:A new type of fluorinated (meth)acrylates was successfully synthesized through a simple reaction of 2-hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate (EMA or EA) with the di-or trimer of hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO)n (n=2,3) in a yield of 82%～86%. The structure of desired compounds has been confirmed by spectroscopy analyses including Fourier transform infrared spectrum(FT-IR),nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum(1H-NMR,and 19F-NMR). These fluoro-(meth)acrylates showed a good solubility in common organic solvents such as acetone,tetrahydrofuran (THF),ether,and alcohol,and also a considerable compatibility with non-fluorinated acrylates. Preliminary investigations on their polymerizability with acrylate-based monomers were carried out under UV-initiating conditions and resulted in the polymer films with a moderate hydrophobic surface. It has been demonstrated that the post-heating treatment may enhance the hydrophobicity of UV-curing films dramatically,especially for the coatings modified with (HFPO)3EMA bearing a longer fluorinated side group. When containing 5%～7% of (HFPO)3EMA,the as-prepared polymer coatings exhibited a high hydrophobicity with a water contact angle of near 120°.

Abstract:Urethane acrylate (UA) was synthesized from various di-polyols, such as poly(tetrahydrofuran) (PTMG, Mn = 1000), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG, Mn = 1000), and poly(propylene glycol) (PPG, Mn = 1000), for use as a polymer binder for paint. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and UA were blended to form an acrylic resin with high transmittance and stress-strain curve. When PMMA was blended with UA, a network structure was formed due to physical entanglement between the two polymers, increasing the mechanical properties. UA was synthesized by forming a prepolymer using di-polyol and hexamethylene diisocyanate, which were chain structure monomers, and capping them with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate to provide an acryl group. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to observe the changes in functional groups, and gel permeation chromatography was used to confirm that the three series showed similar molecular weight and PDI values. The yellowing phenomenon that appears mainly in the curing reaction of the polymer binder was solved, and the mechanical properties according to the effects of the polyol used in the main chain were compared. The content of the blended UA was quantified using ultravioletvisible spectroscopy at a wavelength of 370 nm based on 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt%, and the shear strength and tensile strength were evaluated using specimens in a suitable mode. The ratio for producing the polymer binder was optimized. The mechanical properties of the polymer binder with 5–10 wt% UA were improved in all series.

Abstract:UV absorbers are sustainable substances that inhibit the ultraviolet (UV) radiative degradation of polymers. In previous reports, the as-prepared carbon dots (CDs) possess only an absorption band at UVA (320-400 nm). To achieve broad-spectrum UV absorption (200-400 nm), increasing the concentration of the CDs solution becomes common. However, a high concentration solution seriously affects the light transmittance due to its heavy yellow color. Furthermore, the promising organic UV absorbers cannot achieve broad-spectrum UV absorption. In this work, we initially synthesized three-component water-soluble carbon dots (OP–CDs), which delivers an excellent UV absorption (98% UVA and 100% UVB at the concentration of 1.7×10 -2 mg/mL; 99% transmittance in visible light). Moreover, OP–CDs exhibit outstanding stability at high temperatures and different pH. With the corporation of OP–CDs and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a high-performance UV-shielding film was formed, leading to enhanced broad-spectrum UV shielding performance and improved mechanical properties, resistance of photocatalytic activity and anti-UV aging ability compared with pure PVA film. Notably, the PVA film remains high transparency with the addition of OP–CDs. The study suggests that the corporation of OP–CDs and polymers is effective in anti-UV degradation. Abstract:An efficient, green UV-curable strategy is presented toward strong, flexible, and transparent polyurethane-polyacrylate coatings based on the acrylic-ended hyperbranched polyurethane (AHPU). AHPU was prepared and then blended with commercially available epoxy acrylate EB600 and UV absorbers silicomolybdic acid (SiMoA), followed by undergoing rapid UV curing to fabricate the anti-UV polymeric coatings. The polymeric coating exhibits outstanding mechanical properties including strength, toughness, adhesion, and pencil hardness, which are remarkably improved by the hyperbranched topological structure. Moreover, the uniform dispersion of SiMoA in the polymer matrix and the formation of charge-transfer complexes (CTCs) between SiMoA and AHPU have ensured excellent UV-protective performance. Furthermore, the compromise between the UV-shielding performance and visible transparency is overcome, since high visible transparency has also been achieved. This high-performance polymeric anti-UV composite coating has exhibited a huge application prospect in automotive glass film.

Abstract:Copolymerization of acrylic acid and 1H,1H,11H-perfluoroundecyl acrylate in supercritical carbon dioxide was successfully carried out. The products were obtained in the form of dry white powder with diameter about 0.2μm. Viscosities of 2% aqueous solution of the copolymers were much higher than that of poly(acrylic acid) and it showed a strong dependence on pH, which is due to the intermolecular association.

Abstract:Photopatternable fluorine-containing polyacrylic acrylate prepolymers were synthesized to form amorphous films at room temperature through UV imaging technology. Compared with other conventional low dielectric constant fluorine-containing materials, the synthesized prepolymers exhibit much better compatibility to hydrocarbon solvents and monomers. Their dielectric constants of the cured films are much less than that of the nonfluorinated polyacrylate, and the lowest value could reach 3.23 at 1 MHz. The cured films showed very high transparency, low to 0.61 wt% water absorption and up to 376 °C 5% weight loss temperature. The photopatternability was proved through the formation of the pattern with a resolution of 10 μm.

Abstract:Polyacrylic resins containing glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), methyl methacrylate (MMA) and n-butyl acrylate (BA) in various molar ratios were obtained. Triaryl sulfonium hexafluorophosphate was used as a photoinitiator and reacted with the epoxy groups of GMA. The relationship between the chemical structure of polyacrylic resins and the parameters of the UV curing reaction and the functional properties of powder coatings was investigated. The appearance and mechanical properties of the coatings were determined based on thickness, gloss, roughness, deformability, scratch resistance, adhesion to steel, hardness, and water contact angle. DMA was used to assess the cross-link density. Powder coatings with good physical and mechanical properties and curing time of 70 s were obtained.

Abstract:A bifunctional diethylene glycol difuran acrylate (DEFA) and a trifunctional trimethylolpropane trifuran acrylate (TMFA) monomers for solid state photopolymerization were synthesized from a biomass material furfural, respectively. The high molar extinction coefficient with a 104 order of magnitude indicates the good UV absorption properties of both. The photopolymerization kinetics studies show that DEFA achieves maximum polymerization rate (Rp) at 54 s, and TMFA at 35 s without photoinitiators, and the maximum double bond conversion (DBC) reached 88% of DEFA and 78% of TMFA, respectively, which proves that they have high photosensitivity. The addition of 2,4-dinitroaniline sensitizer increases the maximum DBC, but increases the maximum Rp markedly. The highly crystallinity of DEFA and TMFA are prone to photodimerization and form an amorphous polymer. Both linear polyester from DEFA and crosslinked polyester from TMFA have good thermal oxygen stability. Therefore, we developed a strategy to produce highly sensitive monomers for the application of photosensitive materials that polymerize quickly without photoinitiators and solvents.

Abstract:A series of liquid polysulfide thiourethane acrylate prepolymers were synthesized by the reaction of liquid polysulfide with isocyanate and hydroxyethyl acrylate. With and without a combination of acrylic monomers, the prepolymers were cured with ultraviolet radiation. The films exhibited a higher soft-segment glass-transition temperature than metal oxide cured polysulfide. With the addition of a diluent, the tensile strength and modulus increased, whereas the ultimate elongation decreased. Abstract:A novel UV-curable hyperbranched polyurethane acrylate (FHBPUA) with excellent flexibility is successfully synthesized based on a reaction of hydroxyl terminated hyperbranched polyurethane (regarded as core) with flexible semiadduct urethane monoacrylate (regarded as arms). The structure and property of FHBPUA is firstly analyzed and then utilized as functional additives to ameliorate the UV-curing and mechanical properties of epoxy acrylate resin. The degree of branching of FHBPUA turns out to be 0.82. Its thermal decomposition process consists of three different stages, and the glass transition temperature is around 65 °C. The freestanding FHBPUA film (~30 μm thickness) can be UV-cured within 3 s, and its flexibility is up to 1 mm. With the increase of FHBPUA content to 10 wt %, the UV-curing time of UV1000 film decreases from 6 to 3 s, flexibility strikingly increases from 10 to 1 mm, and adhesive force also improves from 5 to 3 grades, meanwhile its glossiness is not influenced by FHBPUA. In addition, a certain amount of FHBPUA can improve the tensile strength and elongation at break of UV1000 film. This novel FHBPUA can be used not only to develop flexible UV-curable freestanding films but also as functional additives to perfect other UV-curable compositions like coatings, inks and 3D printed parts.

Abstract:Using triethylamine as a catalyst, two polyacrylates containing both acid anhydride and hydroxylic groups were prepared and could be cured with each other under ambient condition to give a coating with good performances. The crosslinking degree of the cured coating amounts to 77% at the catalyst mass fraction higher than 3 6%. With increasing the catalyst mass fraction from 3 6% to 5 4%, the hardness, flexibility and adhesion of the coating were all improved accordingly.

Abstract:High tensile strength UV-cured transparent materials are highly desired in optical devices. In this paper, high tensile strength UV-cured transparent castor oil-based polyurethane acrylates (PUAs) with a very high transmittance over 95% (400-800 nm) were prepared from UV-curable castor oil-based polyurethane acrylates (CO-PUAs) and mercapto silicone-containing hyperbranched polymers (HBPSHs) under UV irradiation. The tensile strengths of UV-cured transparent castor oil-based PUAs can reach 12.49 MPa, which is obviously higher than that of UV-cured CO-PUAs reported previously (0.7-10.20 MPa). The chemical structure of HBPSHs will play an important role in the mechanical performance of UV-cured silicone-modified materials, and it can be concluded that the more rigid the units of α,β-dihydroxyl derivatives used in the fabrication of HBPSHs are, the higher the mechanical strength and pencil hardness of the UV-cured materials will be.
