Abstract:We propose a linearly frequency-tuning single-frequency Nd:YVO4 laser. We achieve a single-frequency tuning operation with a tuning range of 6.3 GHz and a maximum power of 0.5 W at 1,064 nm by tilting a thin coated etalon and changing the voltage applied to an RTP crystal in a synchronous way. The laser is linearly tuned with a standard frequency variation of ∼190 MHz. We estimate the average tuning speed to be 0.81 GHz/s. The tuning range obtained is more than three times the longitudinal mode spacing of the laser resonator.

Abstract:The investigation on 808 nm CW laser-diode pumped all solid-state linearly tunable Nd:YVO4 laser was conducted in this paper. By utilizing methods of short cavity, inclined thin etalon and frequency stabilization including gain medium temperature control, mechanical vibration damping of the laser base and aerial isolation of external turbulence and noises, single frequency laser output at 1064 nm was achieved with a maximum output power of 140 mW. Frequency characteristics was monitored by a Fabry-Perot interferometer and beam density distribution was also scanned, beam quality M2 was measured to be about 1.05 by knife technique. Electro-optical RTP crystal was fixed in the cavity and connected to a high power source, which allowed cavity length modulation by linear electro-optical effect. During the cavity length tuning process, mode hops were avoided by the real time angle tilting of the thin etalon. Frequency tuning range of the 1064 nm laser reaches 1.35 GHz. Programed saw-tooth with a 2200 V amplitude was further applied on the RTP and a 20 Hz periodical linear frequency tuning laser with an average power of 85 mW was obtained.

Abstract:A continuously frequency-tuned laser diode end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser at 1064 nm is demonstrated. A coated etalon and a piezoelectric-transducer (PZT) are utilized for coarse and fine frequency tuning, respectively. Broadband and linear frequency tuning without mode hops is conducted by the synchronous adjustment of the etalon and the PZT. Dependence of the frequency excursion on the displacement of the PZT and the tilting angle of the etalon are theoretically and experimentally investigated. A linear frequency tuning range up to 18 GHz without mode hops or frequency overlaps in a one-way non-stopped scanning is obtained. The maximum output power is 930 mW at 1064 nm, and the average frequency tuning speed is 1.24 GHz/s. Standard deviation of the frequency variation to a linear frequency tuning is estimated to be 186 MHz, indicating a high tuning linearity.

Abstract:A laser-diode-pumped broadband and continuously frequency-tuned all-solid-state Nd:YVO4 laser at 1064 nm with an output power of 200 mW is demonstrated. A RbTiOPO4 (RTP) etalon and a piezoelectric-transducer (PZT) are utilized for coarse and fine frequency tuning, respectively. Dependence of the frequency excursion on the applied voltage to the RTP etalon and the displacement of the PZT is theoretically and experimentally investigated. A continuous frequency tuning of 14 GHz is conducted by synchronous adjustment of the RTP etalon and the PZT. The tuning covers more than 6 times the longitudinal mode spacing of a laser resonator without any mode hops.

Abstract:Nd:YVO4 crystals were successfully grown using the floating zone method. The crystal was grown from a V2O5 excess feed rod in oxygen atmosphere. Single crystals with good optical qualities and without inclusions, voids and growth striations were obtained with a series of Nd3+ concentrations. The light-light conversion efficiency of a diode laser-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser was up to 46%.

Abstract:We presented a novel orthogonally linearly polarized Nd:YVO4 laser. Two pieces of a-cut grown-together composite YVO4/Nd:YVO4 crystals were placed in the resonant cavity with the c-axis of the two crystals orthogonally. The polarization and power performance of the orthogonally polarized laser were investigated. A 26.2-W orthogonally linearly polarized laser was obtained. The power ratio between the two orthogonally polarized lasers was varied with the pump power caused by the polarized mode coupling. The longitudinal modes competition and the corresponding variable optical beats were also observed from the orthogonally polarized laser. We also adjusted the crystals with their c-axis parallele to each other, and a 40.7-W linearly polarized TEM00 laser was obtained, and the beam quality factors were M-x(2) = 1.37 and M-y(2) = 1.25.

Abstract:Transition spectra in the 4F3/2-4I13/2 transition band of Nd:YVO4 crystal are too weak to form laser oscillation for the small stimulated emission cross section and strong parasitical oscillation, except for the 1342 nm wavelength. By adjusting the loss of the resonant cavity, 1386 nm continuous wave output from fiber coupled laser diode end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser is achieved, which reaches 305 mW with pump power of 4.24 W, and the slope efficiency is 13.9% with the highest output power. Continuous wave outputs of 1342 nm and 1386 nm are also observed in the experiment. The stimulated emission cross section of Nd:YVO4 crystal at the wavelength of 1386 nm is calculated as about (3 ± 1) × 10-19 cm2, according to the pumping threshold energy and experimental data.

Abstract:Many deffercnt diode-pumped single-frequency solid-atate lasers have been demonstrated in recent years. The LD pumped tunable single frequency polarized laser is of greet importance for precision measurements. A LD pumped 1.06μm single frequency Nd:YAG micro-chip laser with 120GHz of tunable frequency range and 0.5 mW of output power has been reported. For some important applications the higher laser power and polarized laser beam are needed. We have reported the LD pumped CW and pulsed micro-chip Nd:YVO4 laser with high polarized output power. Here we report the LD pumped tunable single frequency Nd:YVO4 laser with higher output power and polarized beam.

Abstract:This article presents a dual-wavelength signal wave output system capable of generating a broad range of adjustable wavelength intervals. The setup involved the creation of a dual-wavelength cascaded Raman laser featuring composite cavities operating at 1176 nm and 1313 nm. Experimental investigations were carried out on an external cavity MgO:PPLN-OPO driven by the cascaded Raman laser. By setting the crystal polarization period to 27.6-34.4 µm and the temperature to 50-130°C, adjustable tunable output of dual-wavelength signal wave at 1176 nm-MgO:PPLN-OPO (1550-2294 nm) and 1313 nm-MgO:PPLN-OPO (1768-2189 nm) was achieved with a wavelength interval of 0-218 nm. Under the conditions of a period of 34.4 µm, temperature of 90°C, and an incident Raman power of 2.6 W, the highest conversion efficiency of Raman to dual-wavelength signal wave (2212, 2182 nm) was 34.2%. Furthermore, the maximum output power of dual-wavelength signal wave was recorded at 1.02 W with an incident Raman power of 3.33 W.

A four-mirror ring cavity is designed to keep the laer unidirectional operatimg, which eliminate spatial hole burning in standing wave cavity.With the incident pump power of 31.5 W, the obtained output power is 13.6 W, with a slope efficiency of 52.6% and an optical efficiency of 13.2%. At the same time, a beam quatity of M-2 similar to 1.1 is found.

Abstract:Tunable light sources are a key enabling technology for many applications such as ranging, spectroscopy, optical coherence tomography, digital imaging and interferometry. For miniaturized laser devices, whispering gallery resonator lasers are a well-suited platform, offering low thresholds and small linewidths, however, many realizations suffer from the lack of reliable tuning. Rare-earth ion-doped lithium niobate offers a way to solve this issue. Here we present a single-frequency laser based on a neodymium-doped lithium niobate whispering gallery mode resonator that is tuned via the linear electro-optic effect. Using a special geometry, we suppress higher-order transverse modes and hence ensure single-mode operation. With an applied voltage of just $68\,$V, we achieve a tuning range of $3.5\,$GHz. The lasing frequency can also be modulated with a triangular control signal. The freely running system provides a frequency and power stability of better than $\Delta\nu =20\,$MHz and 6%, respectively, for a 30 minute period. This concept is suitable for full integration with existing photonic platforms based on lithium niobate.

Abstract:In this Letter, we demonstrate a nonlinear-mirror (NLM) mode-locked diode-pumped solid-state Nd.YVO4 laser operating at 1342nm, in which the NLM comprises a periodically poled LiNbO3 crystal and a dichroic mirror. The self-starting threshold for cw mode locking is 1.5W, which is significantly lower than that of saturable absorber mode locking. An average power of 1.52W at 1342nm is obtained under diode pump power of 10W at 808nm, with the slope efficiency being up to 16.8%. The pulse width and the repetition rate of the mode-locked laser output are about 9.5 ps and 101 MHz, respectively. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

Abstract:Using the rubidium oxygen titanium phosphate (RTP) electro-optic deflector as a Q switch,we realize a continuous wave LD-pumped Q-switched Nd.∶ YVO4 laser and study the output characteristics in experiments at different output coupling rates and different repetition rates.An output pulse train of 1.22 W average output power with pulse width of 1.0 ns and peak power of 224 kW is obtained at the repetition rate of 5 kHz and an output coupler with transmittance of 60％.Another out pulse of 2.67 W average output power with pulse width of 2.2 ns and peak power of 60.7 kW is obtained when the repetition rate is 20 kHz,the slope efficiency is 37％,and the beam quality factors are Mx2 =1.226,M2y 1.229.Further,by extra-cavity double-frequency based on a potassium titanium oxide phosphate (KTP) crystal,a green laser at 532 nm with repetition rate of 20 kHz and average output power of 1.33 W is obtained,and the corresponding frequency-doubling efficiency is 50％.
