Contrary to marine environment, land multiple attenuation requires careful preprocessing and innovative thinking. A complex near‐surface, combined with poor signal‐to‐noise and source/receiver coupling issues, are key obstacles which deteriorate the performance of multiple attenuation algorithms. In this paper, we briefly review model‐based and data‐driven algorithms for the suppression of multiple energy on land seismic data. We then propose a novel, model‐based methodology rooted to the path‐summation technology, which takes into account the unique characteristics of land seismic data.
