Abstract:Asymmetric expansion: A catalytic asymmetric ring-expansion reaction of the title compounds occurs in the presence of a Sc(OTf)(3) catalyst bearing an N,N'-dioxide-based ligand. Highly functionalized 2-quinolone derivatives containing a chiral C4-quaternary stereocenter were obtained in high yields and high levels of selectivity under mild reaction conditions (see scheme; Tf=trifluoromethanesulfonyl).

Abstract:A cobaltaelectro-catalyzed dehydrogenative [4+2] annulation of arylphosphinamides with alkynes was proposed in the present study to selectively construct a range of cyclic phosphinamide derivatives. Picolinic acid acted as a ligand to promote this transformation. A total of 38 examples demonstrated broad substrate scope, sufficient functional tolerance and excellent regioselectivity. Moreover, no additional oxidants and electrolytes were needed and it was possible to achieve gram scale synthesis, late-stage diversification and the removal of the directing group. Cyclic voltammetry and kinetic isotope experiments provided a better understanding to the reaction mechanism.

Abstract:Abstract A Rh-catalyzed electrochemical vinylic C–H annulation of acrylamides with alkynes has been developed in an undivided cell, affording cyclic products in good to excellent yield. Divergent syntheses of α-pyridones and cyclic imidates are accomplished by employing N-phenyl acrylamides and N-tosyl acrylamides as substrates, respectively. Additionally, excellent regioselectivities are achieved when using unsymmetrical alkynes. This electrochemical process is environmentally benign compared to traditional transition metal-catalyzed C–H annulations because it avoids the use of stoichiometric metal oxidants. DFT calculations elucidated the reaction mechanism and origins of substituent-controlled chemoselectivity. The sequential C–H activation and alkyne insertion under rhodium catalysis leads to the seven-membered ring vinyl-rhodium intermediate. This intermediate undergoes either the classic neutral concerted reductive elimination to produce α-pyridones, or the ionic stepwise pathway to produce cyclic imidates.

Abstract:Comprehensive SummaryA rhodium‐catalyzed denitrogenative carbonylation of 1,2,3‐thiadiazole with alkynes to construct (benzo)thiochromenones is developed. Both terminal and internal alkynes were compatible in this [3+2+1] cycloaddition, affording a broad range of poly‐substituted thiochromenones. Unsymmetrical alkyne substrates exhibited good regioselectivity. It is noteworthy that the present strategy could be used to construct both monocyclic and benzo‐thiochromenones, and it is a novel example of denitrogenative transannulation with CO insertion.

Abstract:A highly diastereo- and enantioselective phosphine-catalyzed sequential [3 + 2]/[3 + 2] annulation of allenoates with arylidenemalononitriles has been developed. This reaction allows for the facile construction of multifunctionalized <i>cis</i>-fused bicyclic[3,3,0]octene scaffolds, encompassing three consecutive stereogenic centers with one quaternary carbon center, in a one-step operation from readily available materials. The reported protocol is scalable, operates under mild reaction conditions, and creates the core structural motif of a number of natural products.

Abstract:A direct α‐alkenylation of nitrile compounds was realized with a palladium complex. This method exhibited excellent tolerance toward a variety of α‐aryl alkyl nitriles and vinyl bromides, leading to the formation of a series of α‐quaternary nitriles containing vinyl groups. Further manipulations of the obtained products were demonstrated, highlighting the potential synthetic utility of this method.

Abstract:A novel palladium-catalyzed domino reaction of 1-bromo-2-(cyclopropylidenemethyl)benzene and 2-alkynylbenzenamine is reported, which generates 2-(naphthalen-2-yl)benzenamines and 5H-indeno[1,2-c]quinolines via 6-endo and 5-exo cyclization, respectively. The regioselectivity for the final outcome can be affected by phosphine and N-heterocyclic carbene ligands.

Abstract:A Pd(II)-catalyzed mild and highly regioselective 6-endo cyclization/alkylation reaction of o-(alkynyl)styrenes with simple allylic alcohols has been developed. Under mild reaction conditions, the vinyl palladium species generated in situ after cyclization could insert a C-C double bond of allylic alcohol through a cross-coupling reaction and led to the formation of (alkyl)naphthalenes. This cascade cross-coupling reaction represents a direct and atom economic method for the construction of functionalized naphthalene derivatives in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:π-Extension of 2-aryl-phenanthroimidazoles via rhodium(III)-catalyzed C-H activation and alkyne annulation is developed. This method enables rapid, practical and modular assembly of diverse ring-fused phenanthroimidazoles, including an unusual rearrangement product using aryl-alkyl asymmetric alkyne and a thiophene fused product which could serve as a Fe(3+) fluorescent probe. The feasibility of the one-pot synthesis and ruthenium(II)-catalyzed versions of this reaction was also verified.

Abstract:A method for the allylic alkylation of aminophenol with alkynes was developed using a palladium-catalysed allylation reaction with 100% atom economy. Abstract:Treatment of benzannulated enediynyl alcohols with trifluoroacetic acid at room temperature promoted a cascade sequence of cyclization reactions, leading to 1,4-naphthoquinone methides. The transformation involved an unusual two-carbon ring expansion from the cyclic alcohols and the construction of the p-quinone methide ring from an acyclic system along the reaction pathway.

Abstract:A novel dynamic kinetic resolution of isobenzofuranone derivatives through palladium‐catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation has been developed to synthesize phthalide derivatives bearing vicinal quaternary and tertiary stereocenters with high yields, showing excellent chemo‐, enantio‐ and diastereoselectivity. Comprehensive Summary Optically active phthalides are prevalent in many natural and bioactive products. Herein, a novel dynamic kinetic resolution of isobenzofuranone derivatives through palladium‐catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation has been developed to synthesize phthalide derivatives bearing vicinal quaternary and tertiary stereocenters with high yields, showing excellent chemo‐, enantio‐ and diastereoselectivity. Furthermore, gram‐scale experiment underwent smoothly and the transformation of product could build a bridged bicyclic skeleton.
