Abstract:In recent years, hybrid DC transmission systems consisting of traditional HVDC transmission and flexible DC transmission have become hot topics. In this paper, the fault additional state of the hybrid bipolar DC transmission system is analyzed. According to the analysis results, it can be obtained that when the fault occurs in the DC transmission line, the direction of the transient current of the rectifier side and the inverter side is the same as the reference direction; when the fault occurs beyond the DC transmission line, the direction of the transient current of the rectification side and the inverter side is is opposite. It is also stipulated that when the current direction is the same as the reference direction, the phase is 0°, and the phase is opposite to the reference direction, and the phase is -180°. According to this feature, the protection principle of distinguishing internal or external fault in the line by using the phase difference of the transient currents on both sides of the line is proposed, and the phase information is extracted by Hilbert transform. In addition, since the variation of transient current of fault line is much larger than that of transient current of not-fault line, the transient current of the positive polar rectifier side and the transient current of the negative polar rectifier side are integrated to construct the energy function to perform the fault polar selection in this paper. Finally, the model of hybrid bipolar direct current transmission is established by PSCAD, and the fault simulation is carried out. Protection algorithm is carried out in MATLAB. A large number of simulation results show that the protection principle can quickly and effectively identify internal or external fault, and identify the fault pole. The method has high reliability.
