Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) be k distinct elements of G and let b (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, b (k) be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation pi on {1, aEuro broken vertical bar,k} such that a (1) b (pi(1)), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) b (pi(k)) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Karolyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily's conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.
Special unipotent representations of real classical groups: counting and reduction

Abstract: Let $G$ be a real reductive group in Harish-Chandra's class. We derive some consequences of theory of coherent continuation representations to the counting of irreducible representations of $G$ with a given infinitesimal character and a given bound of the complex associated variety. When $G$ is a real classical group (including the real metaplectic group), we investigate the set of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$, in the sense of Arthur and Barbasch-Vogan. Here $\check{\mathcal O}$ is a nilpotent adjoint orbit in the Langlands dual of $G$ (or the metaplectic dual of $G$ when $G$ is a real metaplectic group). We give a precise count for the number of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{ \mathcal O}$. We also reduce the problem of constructing special unipotent representations attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$ to the case when $\check{\mathcal O}$ is analytically even (equivalently for a real classical group, has good parity in the sense of M{\oe}glin). The paper is the first in a series of two papers on the classification of special unipotent representations of real classical groups.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a non-archimedean local field of residual characteristic $p\neq 2$. Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over $K$, let $\theta$ be an involution of $G$ over $K$, and let $H$ be the connected component of $\theta$-fixed subgroup of $G$ over $K$. By realizing the Steinberg representation of $G$ as the $G$-space of complex smooth harmonic cochains following the idea of Broussous--Courtès, we study its space of distinction by $H$ as a finite dimensional complex vector space. We give an upper bound of the dimension, and under certain conditions, we show that the upper bound is sharp by explicitly constructing a basis using the technique of Poincaré series. Finally, we apply our general theory to the case where $G$ is a general linear group and $H$ a special orthogonal subgroup, which leads to a complete classification result.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group with an involution σ on it. Let H be an open subgroup of Gσ with a character χ on it. Associated to a “theta stable”, “σ-split” parabolic subalgebra, and using the Zuckerman functor, we construct representations of G together with χ-equivariant linear functionals on them. We apply this construction to prove a non-vanishing hypothesis of H. Grobner and A. Raghuram in the study of algebraicity of critical L-values.
Dirac cohomology and Euler-Poincaré pairing for weight modules

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a reductive Lie algebra over $\mathbb{C}$. For any simple weight module of $\mathfrak{g}$ with finite-dimensional weight spaces, we show that its Dirac cohomology is vanished unless it is a highest weight module. This completes the calculation of Dirac cohomology for simple weight modules since the Dirac cohomology of simple highest weight modules was carried out in our previous work. We also show that the Dirac index pairing of two weight modules which have infinitesimal characters agrees with their Euler-Poincaré pairing. The analogue of this result for Harish-Chandra modules is a consequence of the Kazhdan's orthogonality conjecture which was settled by the first named author and Binyong Sun.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group, and let chi be a character of a reductive subgroup H of G. We construct chi-invariant linear functionals on certain cohomologically induced representations of G, and we show that these linear functionals do not vanish on the bottom layers. Applying this construction, we prove two Archimedean nonvanishing hypotheses which are vital to the arithmetic study of special values of certain L-functions via modular symbols.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the holomorphic convexity of the covering of a complex projective {normal} variety $X$, which corresponds to the intersection of kernels of reductive representations $\rho:\pi_1(X)\to {\rm GL}_{N}(\mathbb{C})$, therefore answering a question by Eyssidieux, Katzarkov, Pantev, and Ramachandran in 2012. It is worth noting that Eyssidieux had previously proven this result in 2004 when $X$ is smooth. While our approach follows the general strategy employed in Eyssidieux's proof, it introduces several improvements and simplifications. Notably, it avoids the necessity of using the reduction mod $p$ method in Eyssidieux's original proof. Additionally, we construct the Shafarevich morphism for complex reductive representations of fundamental groups of complex quasi-projective varieties unconditionally, and proving its algebraic nature at the function field level.

Abstract:In a recent article, D. Kazhdan and A. Yom Din conjectured the validity of an asymptotic form of Schur's orthogonality for tempered irreducible unitary representations of semisimple groups defined over local fields. In the non-Archimedean case, they established such an orthogonality for $K$-finite matrix coefficients. Building on their work, and exploiting the admissibility of irreducible unitary representations, we prove the analogous result in the Archimedean case.

Rankin-Selberg's local zeta integrals produce linear functionals on generic irreducible admissible smooth representations of $GL_n(k)\times GL_r(k)$, with certain invariance properties. We show that up to scalar multiplication, these linear functionals are determined by the invariance properties.

Abstract:We prove that if $G$ is a finite simple group, then all irreducible complex representations of $G$ by be realized over the real numbers if and only if every element of $G$ may be written as a product of two involutions in $G$. This follows from our result that if $q$ is a power of $2$, then all irreducible complex representations of the orthogonal groups $\mathrm{O}^{\pm}(2n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ may be realized over the real numbers. We also obtain generating functions for the sums of degrees of several sets of unipotent characters of finite orthogonal groups, and we obtain a twisted version of our main result for a broad family of finite classical groups.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a split connected reductive group over $\mathbb{Z}$. Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field. With $K_m: = Ker(G(\mathfrak{O}_F) \rightarrow G(\mathfrak{O}_F/\mathfrak{p}_F^m))$, Kazhdan proved that for a field $F'$sufficiently close local field to $F$, the Hecke algebras $\mathcal{H}(G(F),K_m)$ and $\mathcal{H}(G(F'),K_m')$ are isomorphic, where $K_m'$ denotes the corresponding object over $F'$. In this article, we generalize this result to general connected reductive groups.

Abstract:Let G be a connected reductive group over a non-archimedean local field. We say that an irreducible depth-zero (complex) G-representation is non-singular if its cuspidal support is non-singular. We establish a Local Langlands Correspondence for all such representations. We obtain it as a specialization from a categorical version: an equivalence between the category of finite-length non-singular depth-zero G-representations and the category of finite-length right modules of a direct sum of twisted affine Hecke algebras constructed from Langlands parameters. We also show that our LLC and our equivalence of categories have several nice properties, for example compatibility with parabolic induction.

Higher Kazhdan property and unitary cohomology of arithmetic groups

Abstract:Notions of higher Kazhdan property can be defined in terms of vanishing of unitary group cohomology in higher degrees. Garland's theorem for simple groups over non-archimedean fields provides the first examples of a higher Kazhdan property. We prove a version of Garland's theorem for simple Lie groups and their lattices. We generalize theorems of Borel and Borel-Yang about the invariance of the cohomology of lattices in semisimple Lie groups and adelic groups by improving the stability range and allowing for arbitrary unitary representations as coefficients. A novelty of our approach is the use of methods from geometric group theory and -- in the case of rank 1 -- from Clozel's work on the spectral gap property.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a conjecture of Kudla and Rallis. Let $\chi$ be a unitary character, $s\in \mathbb{C}$ and $W$ a symplectic vector space over a non-archimedean field with symmetry group $G(W)$. Denote by $I(\chi,s)$ the degenerate principal series representation of $G(W\oplus W)$. Pulling back $I(\chi,s)$ along the natural embedding $G(W)\times G(W)\hookrightarrow G(W\oplus W)$ gives a representation $I_{W,W}(\chi,s)$ of $G(W)\times G(W)$. Let $\pi$ be an irreducible smooth complex representation of $G(W)$. We then prove \[\dim _\mathbb{C}\mathrm{Hom}_{G(W)\times G(W)}(I_{W,W}(\chi,s),\pi\otimes \pi^\lor)=1.\] We also give analogous statements for $W$ orthogonal or unitary. This gives in particular a new proof of the conservation relation of the local Theta correspondence for symplectic-orthogonal and unitary dual pairs.

Abstract:We give a partial super analog of a result obtained by S. Sahi and G. Zhang relating Shimura operators and certain interpolation symmetric polynomials. In particular, we study the pair $(\mathfrak{gl}(2p|2q), \mathfrak{gl}(p|q)\oplus\mathfrak{gl}(p|q))$, define the super Shimura operators in $\mathfrak{U}(\mathfrak{g})^\mathfrak{k}$, and using a new method, prove that their images under the Harish-Chandra homomorphism are proportional to Sergeev and Veselov's Type $BC$ interpolation supersymmetric polynomials, under the assumption that a family of irreducible $\mathfrak{g}$-modules are spherical. We prove this conjecture using the notion of quasi-sphericity for Kac modules when $p=q=1$, and give explicit coordinates of (quasi-)spherical vectors.

Abstract:We prove that the affine closure of the cotangent bundle of the basic affine space of a complex semisimple group has conical symplectic singularities, which confirms a conjecture of Ginzburg and Kazhdan. We also show that this variety is $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial and has terminal singularities.

Abstract:Let $G_\mathbb R$ be a connected real reductive group and let $X$ be the corresponding complex symmetric variety under the Cartan bijection. We construct a canonical equivalence between the relative Satake category of $G(\mathcal O)$-equivariant $\mathbb C$-constructible complexes on the loop space of $X$ and the real Satake category of $G_\mathbb R(\mathcal O_\mathbb R)$-equivariant $\mathbb C$-constructible complexes on the real affine Grassmannian. We show that the equivalence is $t$-exact with respect to the natural perverse $t$-structures and is compatible with the fusion products and Hecke actions. We further show that the relative Satake category is equivalent to the category of $\mathbb C$-constructible complexes on the moduli stack of $G_\mathbb R$-bundles on the real projective line $\mathbb P^1(\mathbb R)$ and hence provides a connection between the relative Langlands program and the geometric Langlands program for real groups. We provide numerous applications of the main theorems to real and relative Langlands duality including the formality and commutativity conjectures for the real and relative Satake categories and an identification of the dual groups for $G_\mathbb R$ and $X$.
