Abstract:In this paper, our purpose is to study rigidity theorems for λ-hypersurfaces in Euclidean space under Gauss map. As a Bernstein type problem for λ-hypersurfaces, we prove that an entirely graphic λ-hypersurface in Euclidean space is a hyperplane.

Abstract:In this article, we study the Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image problem based on the Gauss curvature flow in Li et al. We deal with some cases in which there is no uniform estimate for the Gauss curvature flow. By the use of the topological method in Guang et al., a special initial condition is chosen such that the Gauss curvature flow converges to a solution of the Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of solutions to the centroaffine Minkowski problem, namely the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space R n + 1 \mathbb {R}^{n+1} with prescribed centroaffine curvature. This problem can be described as a variational problem with a functional resembling Kantorovich’s dual functional in optimal transportation. By using the Gauss curvature flow, we obtain new conditions for the existence of solutions to the problem.

Abstract:An n-dimensional lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 is the critical point of the weighted area functional integral(M) e(-1/4|X|2) d mu for weighted volume-preserving variations, which is also a generalization of the self-shrinking solution of the mean curvature flow. We first prove that if the L-n-norm of the second fundamental form of the lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant K(n, lambda), then M is a hyperplane. Secondly, we show that if the L-n-norm of the trace-free second fundamental form of M with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant D(n, lambda) and the mean curvature is suitably bounded, then M is a hyperplane. We also obtain similar results for lambda-surfaces in R-3 under L-4-curvature pinching conditions.

Abstract:Let Vn+1 be an (n + 1)-dimensional real vector space and (F) over tilde = (alpha) over tilde phi(s) s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be all (alpha, beta)-metric, where (alpha) over tilde is an Euclidean metric and (beta) over tilde is a one form. Minimal surfaces with respect to the Busemann-Hausdorff measure and the Holmes-Thompson measure are called BH-minimal and HT-minimal surfaces, respectively. We give a Bernstein type theorem for minimal graphs in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde) with n <= 7. Let (F) over tilde (b) = (alpha) over tilde phi(s), s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be a Minkowski metric with b := parallel to(beta) over tilde parallel to(alpha) over tilde. We use a PDE to characterize the BH-minimal and HT-minimal graph over any hyperplane containing the origin in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde (b)). Then we prove that this PDE is an elliptic equation of mean curvature type when b is an element of [0, is an element of) for sonic constant is an element of > 0 and give a Bernstein type theorem for BH-minimal surface in (V-3, (F) over tilde (b)). BH-minimal cones with an isolated singularity at the origin are also given.

Abstract:Under suitable conditions on the range of the Gauss map of a complete submanifold of Euclidean space with parallel mean curvature, we construct a strongly subharmonic function and derive a-priori estimates for the harmonic Gauss map. The required conditions here are more general than in previous work and they therefore enable us to improve substantially previous results for the Lawson–Osseman problem concerning the regularity of minimal submanifolds in higher codimension and to derive Bernstein type results.

Abstract:To generalize Bernstein's theorem on minimal surfaces Chern [5] proposed to study the distribution of normals to complete constant mean curvature hypersurface in Euclidean space. In this direction there is a remarkable theorem given by Hoffman, Osserman and Schoen [7]. The author also considered more general cases of this kind of problem in a previous work [2]. In [10] Palmer studied the analogous problem in the ambient Minkowski space. Let M be an oriented spacel~ke hypersurface in a Minkowski space ~7+t. Let be the timelike unit normal vector field to M in R~ '+1. For any point p e M l ~ ( p ) [ 2 = 1 . Abstract:Concerning the value distribution problem for generalized Gauss maps, we not only generalize Fujimoto’s theorem (J Math Soc Jpn 40:235–247, 1988) to complete space-like stationary surfaces in ℝ^3,1 , but also estimate the upper bound of the number of exceptional values when the Gauss image lies in the graph of a rational function f of degree m, which is determined by the number of solutions of f(w)=w̅ , showing a sharp contrast to Bernstein type results for minimal surfaces in ℝ^4 . Moreover, we introduce the concept of conjugate similarity on SL(2,ℂ) to classify all degenerate stationary surfaces (i.e. m≤ 1 ), and establish several structure theorems for complete stationary graphs in ℝ^3,1 from the viewpoint of the degeneracy of Gauss maps.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate Hessian curvature hypersurfaces with prescribed Gauss images. Given geodesically strictly convex bounded domains $\Omega$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\tilde{\Omega}$ in the unit hemisphere, we prove that there is a strictly convex graphic hypersurface defined in $\Omega$ with prescribed $k$-Hessian curvatures such that its Gauss image is $\tilde{\Omega}$. Our proof relies on a novel $C^2$ boundary estimate which utilizes the orthogonal invariance of hypersurfaces. Indeed, we employ some special vector fields generated by the infinitesimal rotations in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ to establish the boundary $C^2$ estimates. This new approach enables us to handle the additional negative terms that arise when taking second order derivatives near the boundary.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Gauss map of hypersurfaces with constant weighted mean curvature in the Gaussian space. We show that if the image of the Gauss map is in a closed hemisphere, then the hypersurface is a hyperplane or a generalized cylinder. We also show that if the image of the Gauss map is in $S^{n}\setminus\bar{S}_{+}^{n-1}$, then the hypersurface is a hyperplane. This generalizes previous results for self-shrinkers obtained by Ding-Xin-Yang.

Abstract:On some specified convex supporting sets of spheres, we find a generalized longitude function $\theta $ whose level sets are totally geodesic. Given a (weakly) harmonic map $u$ into $S^n$, the composition of $\theta $ and $u$ satisfies an elliptic equation of divergence type. With the aid of Harnack’s inequalities, we establish the image shrinking property and then regularity results. Applying such results to study the Gauss image of minimal hypersurfaces in Euclidean spaces, we obtain curvature estimates and corresponding Bernstein type theorems.

Abstract:This paper continues the line of research where one shows a Bernsteintype theorem, namely, that a complete minimal submanifold of a Euclidean space has to be affine linear, by proving that its Gauss map is constant. This Gauss map is a harmonic map into some Grassmann manifold. Therefore, we need geometric conditions on the target of the Gauss map which imply that, being harmonic, it has to be constant. For this purpose, we identify a region W 1/3 in a Grassmann manifoldG(n,m,) not covered by a usualmatrix coordinate chart, with the following important property. For a complete n-submanifold M of Rn+m with n >= 3, and m >= 2, with parallel mean curvature whose image under the Gauss map is contained in a compact subset K subset of W 1/3 subset of G(n,m), we can construct strongly subharmonic functions on M and derive a priori estimates for the harmonic Gauss map, to eventually show that it is constant. While we do not know yet how close our region is to being optimal in this respect, it is substantially larger than what could be achieved previously with other methods. Consequently, this enables us to obtain substantially stronger Bernstein-type theorems in higher codimension than previously known. We also provide some new explicit computations for the example of Lawson and Osserman [18].

Abstract:The image of the Gauss map of any oriented isoparametric hypersurface of the unit standard sphere $S^{n+1}(1)$ is a minimal Lagrangian submanifold in the complex hyperquadric $Q_n({\mathbf C})$. In this paper we show that the Gauss image of a compact oriented isoparametric hypersurface with $g$ distinct constant principal curvatures in $S^{n+1}(1)$ is a compact monotone and cyclic embedded Lagrangian submanifold with minimal Maslov number $2n/g$. The main result of this paper is to determine completely the Hamiltonian stability of all compact minimal Lagrangian submanifolds embedded in complex hyperquadrics which are obtained as the images of the Gauss map of homogeneous isoparametric hypersurfaces in the unit spheres, by harmonic analysis on homogeneous spaces and fibrations on homogeneous isoparametric hypersurfaces. In addition, the discussions on the exceptional Riemannian symmetric space $(E_6, U(1)\cdot Spin(10))$ and the corresponding Gauss image have their own interest.

Abstract:In this short note we study Bernstein's type theorem of translating solitons whose images of their Gauss maps are contained in compact subsets in an open hemisphere of the standard $\mathbf{S}^n$ (see Theorem 1.1). As a special case we get a classical Bernstein's type theorem in minimal submanifolds in $\mathbf{R}^{n+1}$ (see Corollary 1.2).

Abstract:We show the regularity of, and derive a-priori estimates for (weakly) harmonic maps from a Riemannian manifold into a Euclidean sphere under the assumption that the image avoids some neighborhood of a half-equator. The proofs combine constructions of strictly convex functions and the regularity theory of quasi-linear elliptic systems. We apply these results to the spherical and Euclidean Bernstein problems for minimal hypersurfaces, obtaining new conditions under which compact minimal hypersurfaces in spheres or complete minimal hypersurfaces in Euclidean spaces are trivial.

Abstract:In order to derive the best possible estimates of the total mean curvature of a compact submanifold in a Euclidean space in terms of spectral geometry, in the late 1970s, Bang-Yen Chen introduced the theory of finite-type submanifolds, which could be viewed as λ -biharmonic submanifolds in the sense of λ -biharmonic maps. Interestingly, Chen proposed in 1991 the following problem (Chen in Soochow J Math 17:2:169–188, 1991, Problem 12): “Determine all submanifolds of Euclidean spaces which are of null 2-type. In particular, classify null 2-type hypersurfaces in Euclidean spaces.” In this paper, we give further support evidence to the above problem. We are able to prove that a linear Weingarten null 2-type or λ -biharmonic hypersurface M^n of a Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 has constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature provided n<7 .

Abstract:In this study, we deal with the Gauss map of tubular hypersurfaces in 4-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space concerning the linearized operators $\mathcal{L}_{1}$ (Cheng-Yau) and $\mathcal{L}_{2}$. We obtain the $\mathcal{L}_{1}$ (Cheng-Yau) operator of the Gauss map of tubular hypersurfaces that are formed as the envelope of a family of pseudo hyperspheres {or pseudo hyperbolic hyperspheres} whose centers lie on timelike or spacelike curves with non-null Frenet vectors in $\mathbb{E}^{4}_{1}$ and give some classifications for these hypersurfaces which have generalized $\mathcal{L}_{k}$ 1-type Gauss map, first kind $\mathcal{L}_{k}$-pointwise 1-type Gauss map, second kind $\mathcal{L}_{k}$-pointwise 1-type Gauss map and $\mathcal{L}_{k}$-harmonic Gauss map, $k\in\{1,2\}$.
