Abstract:We establish the Noether inequality for projective 3-folds. More precisely, we prove that the inequality vol(X)≥43p_g(X)-103 holds for all projective 3-folds X of general type with either p_g(X)≤ 4 or p_g(X)≥ 21, where p_g(X) is the geometric genus and vol(X) is the canonical volume. This inequality is optimal due to known examples found by M. Kobayashi in 1992.

Abstract:We establish the Noether inequality for projective $3$-folds. More precisely, we prove that the inequality $${\rm vol}(X)\geq \frac{4}{3}p_g(X)-{\frac{10}{3}}$$ holds for all projective $3$-folds $X$ of general type with either $p_g(X)\leq 4$ or $p_g(X)\geq 27$, where $p_g(X)$ is the geometric genus and ${\rm vol}(X)$ is the canonical volume. This inequality is optimal due to known examples found by M. Kobayashi in 1992.

Abstract:If $X$ is a smooth complex projective 3-fold with ample canonical divisor $K$, then the inequality $K^3\ge {2/3}(2p_g-7)$ holds, where $p_g$ denotes the geometric genus. This inequality is nearly sharp. We also give similar, but more complicated, inequalities for general minimal 3-folds of general type. (A noether type of inequality lies, by all means, on the other side of the Miyaoka-Yau inequality from the geographical point of view.)

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth irregular $3$-fold of general type over $\mathbb{C}$. We prove that the optimal Noether inequality $$ \mathrm{vol}(X) \ge \frac{4}{3}p_g(X) $$ holds if $p_g(X) \ge 16$ or if $X$ has a Gorenstein minimal model. Moreover, when $X$ attains the equality and $p_g(X) \ge 16$, its canonical model can be explicitly described.

We give two applications of an inequality between chi(omega(X)) and p(g)(X):1) Assume that the canonical map Phi(\KX\) is of fiber type. Let F be a smooth model of a generic irreducible component in the general fiber of Phi(\KX\). Then the birational invariants of F are bounded from above.2) If X is nonsingular, then c(1)(3) <= 1/27c1c2 + 10/3.

Abstract:1) We give a 3-dimensional analogue of M. Noether's inequality for canonically polarized threefolds: $K^3\ge 2(2p_g-5)/3$. This inequality is sharp by known examples of M. Kobayashi. 2) Given a minimal 3-fold $X$ of general type with canonical singularities, if $K^3< (3p_g-5)/2$, we show that $X$ must be birationally fibred by curves of genus 2.

Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a Gorenstein minimal projective 3-fold with at worst locally factorial terminal singularities. Suppose the canonical map is of fiber type. Denote by $F$ a smooth model of a generic irreducible component in fibers of the canonical map of $X$ and so $F$ is a smooth curve or a smooth surface. The main result of the paper is that there is a computable constant $K$ (independent of $X$) such that $g(F)\leq 647$ or $p_g(F)\leq 38$ whenever $p_g(X)\geq K$. The method heavily relies on both a Noether type of inequality and a Miyaoka-Yau inequality and that is the reason we only treat a Gorenstein object here. It is open whether the degree of the canonical map is universally bounded when the canonical map is generically finite.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a partial affirmative answer to the BAB conjecture for $3$-folds in characteristic $p>5$. Specifically, we prove that a set $\mathcal{D}$ of weak Fano $3$-folds over an uncountable algebraically closed field is bounded, if each element $X \in \mathcal{D}$ satisfies certain conditions regarding the Gorenstein index, a complement and Kodaira type vanishing. In the course of the proof, we also study a uniform lower bound for Seshadri constants of nef and big invertible sheaves on projective $3$-folds.

Abstract:Let $V$ be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We prove $P_{12}(V)>0$ and $P_{24}(V)>1$ (which answers an open problem of J. Kollar and S. Mori). We also prove that the canonical volume has an universal lower bound $\text{Vol}(V) \geq 1/2660$ and that the pluri-canonical map $\Phi_m$ is birational onto its image for all $m\geq 77$. As an application of our method, we prove Fletcher's conjecture on weighted hyper-surface 3-folds with terminal quotient singularities. Another featured result is the optimal lower bound $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/420}$ among all those 3-folds $V$ with $\chi({\mathcal O}_V)\leq 1$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a minimal projective 3-fold of general type. The pluricanonical section index $\delta(X)$ is defined to be the minimal integer $m$ so that $P_{m}(X)\geq 2$. According to Chen-Chen, one has either $1\leq \delta(X)\leq 15$ or $\delta(X)=18$. This note aims to intensively study those with maximal such index. A direct corollary is that the $57$th canonical map of every minimal 3-fold of general type is stably birational.
