Abstract:Research on the intelligent design technology in the knowledge-based sheet metal blanking process design and 3D die structure design has been conducted.The design model method has been proposed to be applied to the establishment of dynamic and flexible interface for engineering design in the CAD system.Based on the method above, the system for sheet metal blanking process and 3D die structure design has been established by the interface technology and process integration technology on the graphic platform of I-DEAS,which is able to raise the efficiency and quality of the design in a great deal under real-time engineering environment.

Abstract:A finite element model describing the drawing process of the heat-shield panel of automobile engine is established by using the commercial dynamic explicit code LS-DYNA. By the established model, the effect of BHF (Blank Holder Force) on the drawing process is analyzed, with the results showing that no appropriate BHF can effectively restrain the severe wrinkling and folding as well as the tearing. Therefore, drawbead is employed together with BHF to control the drawing process, and several typical layouts of drawbead are analyzed and compared via FEA (Finite Element Analysis), with the most effective one then being applied to stamping experiments. The results indicate that the results of FEA accord well with those of the experiments, and that the proposed drawbead layout can eliminate the severe wrinkling and folding as well as avoid the excessive thinning.By the FEA, engineers can make correct decisions at the early design stage, and the development cycle of the drawing die for the panel shortens to 4 weeks from the past 12 weeks.

Abstract:Increasing demands for premium quality, high productivity and cost-saving products provide powerful incentives to improve the way that die castings are made today. Research has shown that the fluid flow of the liquid metal and the temperature distribution of the dies and the die castings have a critical influence on the quality of the cast products, on the production rate and on the die life. In this present study, a CAD/CAE system for die casting has been developed. By using the CAD package, die designers can determine the location, the shape and the dimension of the runner and gating systems of die castings according to the characteristics of the die-casting machine, the geometry of the casting, and the properties of the alloy. After the design process, the CAE program is used to undertake the sophisticated calculations of the fluid flow and thermal analysis to check if there are some defects related to the filling and solidification processes. Through the interactive process of CAD/CAE, an ideal design can be provided with the best filling pattern and the optimal thermal condition for both the die and the die casting.

Abstract:On the basis of further investigation to the secondary development technologies of UG software and the design characteristics of blanking dies,the auto-design method of blanking dies with its technology and process has been researched,and a model system has been developed as well.This system can be used to help designers to complete a series of tedious works,such as designing punch and die,selecting and assembling the die base,an00d so on.Thus,the design cycle and the intensity of labor have been shortened and lowered significantly,and the error caused by the designer has been reduced,which can improve the intelligence and automatic level of the blanking die method.

Abstract:Blank layout is one of the most important processes in stamping die design. As the major cost in sheet metal stamping is the material cost, any efforts to minimise the scrap may result in substantial savings not only in strip material, but also in overall production. This paper is mainly targeted at establishing a practical blank layout optimisation system for stamp ing die by using AutoCAD’s ObjectARX toolkit. The basic principles of blank layout optimisation are first described, and then the general structure of the system is proposed. Not only a suitable algorithm for layout calculation, but also the manufacturing requirements and user operation are fully considered in this system. Finally, an algorithm for blank shape offsetting is proposed to solve the problem of self-intersection in offset curves, and the traditional ‘1-step tranzlation’ algorithm for the calculation of layout parameters is improved to eliminate the conflict between precision and efficiency in the layout optimisation.

Abstract:A CAD/CAE system for TR forging die for crankshaft was developed,which included the functions of forging design,billet design,die design,output of the drawings and the interface between CAD and CAE software.The development process and method of the system were introduced.The key development techniques include establishment of the parameterized part library,automatic generation of the drawings and simulation of the forming process.As an example,the whole design process of a crankshaft was carried out by the system and the billet dimensions were optimized by finite element simulation of the forging process,then the feasibility of the system was verified.

Abstract:The die-face design of panel drawing dies is a creative process design procedure for a 3D panel product model. It includes determining the pressing direction, and designing the addendum, the binder surface, the drawbead, the die round, etc. The main goal of die-face design is to satisfy the need of drawing formability, but inherent in panel drawing forming are complicated mechanical problems. Among these are geometric non-linearity, material non-linearity and the non-linearity of process boundaries. Every factor affects every other factor to multiply the difficulties. Accordingly, the traditional experiential method and single computer-aided technology are inadequate. However, integrated formability analysis can solve these problems. Formability analysis is first done geometrically with 3D CAD software. Then two-stage fuzzy synthetic evaluation tests of die-face design are conducted. Finally, sequential FEM numerical simulation, considering synthetically geometry, material, process and other factors, completes the task. Thus integrated formability analysis makes full use of 3D CAD software, expert experience and FEM numerical simulation, and evolves progressively from simplicity to complexity, to satisfy the demands of the drawing process.

Abstract:The great requirements for aluminum profile and variety demand higher performance of the extrusion dies as well as the shorter period of design and manufacture.The use of the CAD/CAE/CAM technology can achieve these goals.However,so far there is no CAD system which can be used to design the extrusion dies effectively.A special CAD system which embeds the engineering experience based on the UG software was developed.The system can design the bearing automatically.The finite element analyzes show that the system can improve the quality of the dies and the efficiency of the design.

Abstract:Geometric modeling used in the dynamic stamping simulation of a die is discussed. Several modeling methods based on engineering drawings used often to construct 3D surface models of an autobody panel in stamping simulation are also discussed. Based on this discussion, a front-door model of a car is constructed based on the CAD system, then it is transferred into the CAE system by means of VDA data format. The calculation results of dynamic stamping simulation, including the distributions of engineering major strain and thickness change of the blank and FLD are presented. In order to verify the accuracy in modeling and simulation, experiments have been done in a plant, which show that the results of the calculation are almost identical to those of the experiments.

Abstract:The cold stamping forming processes of the car beam left/right section were designed and analyzed using the CAD/CAE technology and related software. Based on the establishment of the numerical model for the car beam left/right section, the stamping processes of the product were determined through the technical analysis. In particular, the effects of different drawing schemes and parameters (including blank-holder force, blank size, lubrication conditions, etc) on the manufacturability of the product were investigated by numerical simulation technology. The forming effects were evaluated according to forming limit diagram and thickness distribution diagram. As a result, the reasonable process design and optimum parameters are obtained, which can reduce the tendencies of wrinkling, cracking and thickness reduction, and achieve sufficient plastic deformation of the blank.

Abstract:The parts in the structure design of stamping die are usually serialized standard parts including punch,bottom die,pilot pin,fixed block,guide posts and bushings etc or typical parts like upper holder or lower holder which have the same or similar structural unit.To improve working efficiency,the development of standard part library and intelligent design support tools were researched.With VC++ programming the system made user's dialogs for components searching and choosing,parameters checking,model viewing and so on as standard COM or DLL,which making user's interface of standard part library independent of any kind of CAD platform and easy to plug-in any CAD platform so as to be used widely.

Abstract:The Vee-Ring-Free(VRF) fine-blanking can effectively reduce the production cost of fine-blanking tool and increase the material utilization.But it is difficult to guarantee good quality of the cutting surface based on conventional plane-blank-holder fine-blanking.So the step-shaped-punch fine-blanking was put forward.An axis-symmetric FEM model of step-shaped-punch fine-blanking process for C20E-EN steel was conducted by using DEFORM 2D,and the effect of punch step height,punch step width,die clearance and other dominant parameters on clean-cutting height and die-roll height were studied.Based on the analysis,the optimal technological parameters were obtained.Theoretical predication was compared with experimental results.The results show that there is significant agreement between FEM simulation and experiment.
