Abstract:Ultra-fine pulverized coal reburning technology features high-efficiency NOx reduction, low operating costs and ease of implementation. Through tests the authors have studied the key factors in this reburning technology, which exercise a major influence on NOx reduction. The results of this study indicate that the finer the reburned fuel particles, the higher the N0x reduction efficiency. The optimum average particle diameter of the reburned fuel is 20 /urn. The optimum ratio of re-burned fuel is 20% for lignite of Longkou and 25% for bituminous coal of Shenfu. There exists an optimum injection location for the reburned fuel. In general, the higher the coal rank, the further is the distance from a main fuel nozzle. The residence time of fuel in the optimum reburning zone is 0.63 s for lignite of Longkou and 0.75 s for bituminous coal of Shenfu.

Abstract:Reburning reaction mechanism and characteristics are discussed regarding the use of a variety of reburned fuels in the reburning technology of a coal-fired boiler. Such reburned fuels include hydrocarbon gases, oil, coals and biomass, etc. The effectiveness of NO_x reduction of various fuels under specific combustion conditions is analyzed and compared along with a summing-up of the principles to be observed for selecting reburned fuels.

Abstract:Coal reburning is a successful advanced technology for reducing NO_x emissions from utility coal-fired boilers. In this work, various rank coals were employed as reburning fuel, the effects of reburning fuel ratio, reacting zone temperature, excess air, residual time and coal fineness on NO_x reduction efficiency were experimentally investigated by using an one-dimension drop-tube furnace. The experimental results show that the coal with high volatile content can reduce NO_x more effectively. For the same coal, in order to achieve high NO_x reduction efficiency, the finer coal finess and suitable residence time of the reburning zone are required. The minimum burn-out height has been put forward to evaluate the right location of the reburning coal injection ports to get a higher carbon burn-out and higher NO_x reduction efficiency.

Abstract:The microscale process of NOx reduction by coal reburning was investigated on a fixed-bed reactor and the NOx reduction efficiencies at different oxygen levels were studied.The results showed that there are three stages in the coal reburning process.The first stage is the early NO formation of reburning coal,the second one is the NO homogeneous reduction by volatile matter and the last one is the NO heterogeneous reduction by coal char.The first stage and the third stage are insensitive to the change of oxygen fraction in the main stream,while the NO homogeneous reduction by volatile matter is very sensitive to the change of atmosphere composition.With the increase of oxygen fraction in main stream during coal reburning,NO reduction efficiency decreases.The oxygen fraction of 8% is the critical value for determining the effectivity of NO reduction.When oxygen fraction is larger than 8%,NO will be formed by the reburning coal other than reduced in the main stream.In order to obtain valuable NO reduction efficiency by coal reburning,oxygen fraction should be smaller than 5%,and the corresponding stoichiometric ratio of volatile(SRV) should be smaller than 0.8.Quantitative analysis by integral of the NO curves at different conditions shows that the volatile matter is the main contributor to the NO reduction under fuel-rich condition and to the formation of NO under fuel-lean condition.An empirical equation of NO reduction efficiency at different atmosphere for Shenhua coal reburning was also presented.

Abstract:Reburning natural gas is a feasible,economic and effective way of reducing NO_x in boiler flue gas.The principle and status quo of its application are presented,accompanied by a report on the factors influencing NO_x emission in reburning natural gas,as observed on a multi-functional low-NO_x combustion test rig.Test data of various modes of operation are analyzed,disclosing the factors that affect NO_x reduction.Comparison with results of a petroleum gas reburning retrofitting project of a certain power plant shows that the reburning technique is feasible.Figs 8,tables 5 and refs 3.

Abstract:Coal reburning technology is one of the most promiseful methods, with high NOx reduction efficiency and low operation cost. The numerical simulation and experimental study on the rule of the NOx reduction in the micronized coal reburning has been done. The results of this study indicated that NOx reduction efficiency increasing with the particle size of reburning fuel reducing. The optimum particle size of reburning fuel is 20 μm. The small particle size of reburning fuel, the lower reburning fuel load is needed for uniform reduction efficiency. It is propitious to reducing NOxemissions with the residence time in rich zone increasing, but the effect is not obvious with the residence time farther increasing. The finer the reburning fuel is, the shorter the residence time is needed. Compared with conventional coal reburning, micronized coal reburning is superior not only in raising combustion efficiency but also in further reducing NOx emissions by over 10%. NOx reduction efficiency reaching about 70%.

Abstract:On the basis of analyzing NO_x formation and destruction mechanisms in coal combustion process, this paper presents a method to reduce NO_x emissions in stock boilers by reburn technology, and experimental research was developed by pot furnace, on which reburn fuel nozzles and overfire air nozzles were arranged at different location. Several influencing factors such as reburn fuel rate, reburn zone residence time and the primary zone stoichiometric ratio were studied. The result shows that it is effective to reduce NO_x emissions through reburn technology, and about 60 percent NO_x reduction was achieved under experimental conditions.Figs3,table1 and refs3.

Abstract:Experiments of reburning were carried out to investigate the rule of NO_x emissions by changing the type of coal,the excess air factor of reburning zone,the components of reburning fuel and the temperature in reburning zone on a 20 kW one-dimensional stove using pulverized coal.The results indicate that the higher the volatile fraction of coal is,the lower NO_x emission amount is;the more natural gas is injected into reburning zone,the more NO_x formed in primary zone is reduced in reburning zone;the temperature of reburning zone should not be too high,otherwise the formation of thermal NO_x increases and the reducing-rate of NO_x decreases;petroleum gas can also be injected as reburning fuel and in suitable combustion situation it has the similar effect to that of natural gas,but in general,the effect of natural gas is a little better than that of petroleum gas.

Abstract:Pulverized coal reburning, ammonia injection and advanced reburning in a pilot scale drop tube furnace were investigated. Premix of petroleum gas, air and NH3 were burned in a porous gas burner to generate the needed flue gas. Four kinds of pulverized coal were fed as reburning fuel at constant, rate of 1g/min. The coal reburning process parameters including 15%~25% reburn heat input, temperature range from 1100 °C to 1400 °C and also the carbon in fly ash, coal fineness, reburn zone stoichiometric ratio, etc. were investigated. On the condition of 25% reburn heat input, maximum of 47% NO reduction with Yanzhou coal was obtained by pure coal reburning. Optimal temperature for reburning is about 1300 °C and fuel-rich stoichiometric ratio is essential; coal fineness can slightly enhance the reburning ability. The temperature window for ammonia injection is about 700°C~1100°C. CO can improve the NH3 ability at lower temperature. During advanced reburning, 72.9% NO reduction was measured. To achieve more than 70% NO reduction, Selective Non-catalytic NOx Reduction (SNCR) should need NH3/NO stoichiometric ratio larger than 5, while advanced reburning only uses common dose of ammonia as in conventional SNCR technology. Mechanism study shows the oxidization of CO can improve the decomposition of H2O, which will rich the radical pools igniting the whole reactions at lower temperatures.

Abstract:Micronized coal reburning technology is one of the most promiseful methods, with high NOx reduction efficiency and low operation cost. The numerical simulation and experimental study on some influence factors such as the temperature and the stoichiometric ratio in rich zone, the velocity and the particle size of reburning fuel on NOx reduction efficient has been done. The results indicate that when the temperature is1200℃ and the stoichiometric ratio is about 0.9 in rich zone, the NOx reduction efficiency reaches the largest value. The larger reburning fuel velocity is, the higher NOx reduction efficiency is. NOx reduction efficiency increases with the reduction of particle size of reburning fuel. The optimum particle size of reburning fuel is 20μm. Compared with conventional coal reburning, micronized coal reburning on superior. This technology not only has less influence on combustion efficiency but also has higher NOx reduction efficiency.

Abstract:Fuel staged (reburning) is a mature NOx control technology that uses fuel staged to forms re ductive atmosphere and to forces NOx to decompose. This paper discusses the rebuming of Shenfu bitumi nous from a view of petrography. Through experimental study, we find that the vitrinite, which is called active constituent, is useful for deoxidization of NOx, and the fusinite is an inertial constituent in rebum ing. The fusinite must be got rid of when Shenfu bituminous is uesd as rebuming fuel. Application of the result in engineering is introduced.

Abstract:Nitric oxide(NO) reduction process by reburning with two kinds of biomasses corn straw,rice husk and one pulverized bituminous coal were studied in an isothermal high temperature drop tube furnace(DTF).Experimental studies were performed on influences of NO removal efficiency by fuel type,excess air ratio(SR),resident time,and reburning fuel fraction.Meanwhile,burnout of three reburning fuels was analyzed.The results show that biomass owns higher NO removal efficiency than pulverized coal.NO removal efficiency of three kinds of fuels increases by different extent through the increase of reburn fuel fraction and the decrease of the excess air ratio.NO removal efficiency of corn straw is the most efficient;rice husk is medium,pulverized bituminous coal is the lowest.Within the certain reburn resident time(650 ms),NO removal efficiency increases quickly with the resident time.Beyond this resident time limit,NO removal efficiency increase slowly.In the tested conditions,biomass was more efficient than pulverized bituminous coal for NO removal efficiency and unburnt carbon in fly ash was within reasonable limits.

Abstract:With blended coals(bitumite and lignite) in three kinds of fineness,Datong-origin bitumite in one kind of fineness and Xingtai origin lean coal in the form of superfine pulverized coal all serving as reburning fuel,and having prepared a simulation flue-gas by using N_2,O_2,CO_2 and NO,an experimental study was conducted of NO reduction by reburning in a(1 300) ℃ and 1 100 ℃ EFR(entrained flow reactor) along with an analysis of its chemical reaction dynamics mechanism.The experimental results show that the chemical reaction rate of superfine pulverized coal reburning involving NO reduction is jointly controlled by diffusion——reaction dynamics.Hence,raising the temperature in the reburning zone,using pulverized coal with a high reaction activity as reburning fuel or increasing the fineness of reburned pulverized coal,all these measures can significantly enhance the chemical reaction rate of NO reduction through reburning,thereby properly shortening the residence time of pulverized coal in the reburning zone.However,if the residence time of the pulverized coal in the reburning zone is shorter than 0.6 s,the efficiency of NO reduction will drop drastically.Meanwhile,the pulverized coal burn-out rate will also be reduced.It has been found that with superfine pulverized coal serving as a reburning fuel,the suitable residence time in the reburning zone should be about 0.8 s.

Abstract:The NOx reductions by reburning using sawdust, corn straw, and cotton straw were studied in a lab-scale and self heating drop-tube furnace with varied reaction temperatures, reburning fuel fractions, stoichiometric ratios, and residence times in the reburning zone. Results show that NOx reduction efficiency increased with reburning biomass ratio; however, the NOx reduction efficiency increased first and then decreased with the increased reburning temperature, stoichiometric ratio, and residence time with an optimal point around 1100 degrees C, 0.6-0.7, and 1.88 s, respectively. Above 1100 degrees C, thermal-NOx that originated from reburning biomass resulted in a decrease in NOx reduction efficiency. High stoichiometric ratio oxidized reducing radicals and thus decreased NOx reduction efficiency, but the NOx reductions were also inhibited when the excess air ratio was too low, which hindered the further conversion of the intermediates during NOx reductions. In a fixed-size furnace, long residence time in the reburning zone improved volatile release and NOx reductions, but shortened residence time of pulverized coal in the primary zone resulted in incomplete burnout and excess oxygen which oxidized the reducing radicals, and thus decreased NOx reduction efficiency. In addition, high volatiles and heating value (influencing furnace temperature distribution) of the reburning biomass caused high NOx reduction efficiency, and consequently, the woody biomass (sawdust) showed higher NOx reduction efficiency in comparisons with agricultural residues such as corn straw and cotton straw. Meanwhile, the Van Krevelen diagram where the fuel far from the zero point shows high NOx reduction efficiency may be used as a guideline for the selection of reburning biomass.
Experimental Study On Biomass Reburning In One Dimensional Drop Tube Furnace

Abstract:Reburning for nitrogen oxides (NOx) control by corn straw and rice husk as reburn fuels was studied in the current work. Experimental equipment was an isothermal drop tube furnace. Flue gas from the primary zone was simulated by the combustion of propane mixed with NO through premixed burner in horizontal combustion chamber. Reburn fuels were fed from the top of vertical section, flowing from top to down. The vertical isothermal section was used to simulate reburn zone. Flue gas at different resident time was sampled by a water-cooled sampling device, and the gas composition was analyzed with gas analyzer. Considering resident time in reburn zone is less than 0.7s in practical operation, a resident time of 0.5s was used as a benchmark when NO removal effectiveness of different cases was compared. The NO concentration was kept at 800ppm at the outlet of primary zone and the temperature in the reburn zone was controlled approximately at 1200 degrees C for all cases. Different biomasses as reburn fuels and their influence on NO removal were studied experimentally. The results show that NO can be reduced up to 60% when corn straw was used as reburn fuel with 15% reburn fuel fraction and stoichiometric ratio was 0.9. A higher NO reduction can be achieved if the reburn fuel fraction is increased and the SR is decreased. Rice husk is less effective reburn fuel than corn straw under the same conditions. Furthermore, a kind of bituminous coal was also tested as a reburn fuel also. The experimental results suggest that higher NO removal efficiency obtained with two biomasses than that with the bituminous coal. Besides, the influence of various parameters was analyzed by chemical kinetics mechanism to explain the experimental results, which theoretically supports engineering application of the reburning technology.

Abstract:Experimental investigation on reburning by a pulverized bituminous coal was performed in a one-dimensional flow reactor, in which the ignition statuses of the coal were monitored by on-line gas analysis, solid sampling, and direct image acquisition. The experimental results indicate that NO reduction efficiency (RE) varies nonmonotonically with stoichiometric ratio of oxygen to coal (SR) entering the reburning zone: the lower SR does not necessarily result in the higher RE, mainly due to the great influence of ignition modes of the coal. Before ignition, RE increases with increasing SR, since a little oxygen is in favor of homogeneous NO reduction. Then, RE decreases greatly after homogeneous ignition with increase of SR, due to the rapid consumption of NO-reducing species by the volatile flame in the boundary layer of the particle, before going to the flue gas for NO reduction. When the joint heterohomogeneous ignition happens with further increase of SR, the char temperature increases violently, the heterogeneous NO reduction rate rises obviously with increasing temperature, then the whole RE begins to increase again. As a result of even higher SR, the char combustion is controlled by diffusion, and it is difficult for the oxygen necessary for heterogeneous NO reduction reactions to reach the surface, then the RE decreases again. The promotion effects of char ignition on RE are more obvious at lower temperature in the reburning zone, and the SR values at which the above relevant phenomena appear are lower for coarser coal particles.

Abstract:This paper deals with an experimental study on the influence of coal reburn on NOx reduction efficiency, unburned carbon in fly ash and the furnace temperature distribution along the height in a 1MW (heat input power) tangentially firing furnace with multiple low NOx control technologies. Several variables associated with the reburn system have been investigated in the experiment which includes the air stoichiometry in reburn zone, the location of reburn burner and reburn coal fineness. The optimum location of reburn nozzles has been found where NOx reduction efficiency is highest. With the decrease of reburn coal size (average diameter from 53.69μm to 11.47μm), NOx reduction efficiency increases slightly, but the burnout performance of coal is improved noticeably. In the process of coal reburning, the temperature of flue gas is 70–90°C lower in primary combustion, but 130–150°C higher at the top of furnace as compared to baseline.
