Abstract:Big data has long been found its way into clinical practice since the advent of information technology era. Medical records and follow-up data can be more efficiently stored and extracted with information technology. Immediately after admission a patient immediately produces a large amount of data including laboratory findings, medications, fluid balance, progressing notes and imaging findings. Clinicians and clinical investigators should make every effort to make full use of the big data that is being continuously generated by electronic medical record (EMR) system and other healthcare databases. At this stage, more training courses on data management and statistical analysis are required before clinicians and clinical investigators can handle big data and translate them into advances in medical science. China is a large country with a population of 1.3 billion and can contribute greatly to clinical researches by providing reliable and high-quality big data.

Abstract:The rapidly increasing medical data generated from hospital information system (HIS) signifies the era of Big Data in the healthcare domain. Abstract:The year of 2011 is considered the first year of big data market in China. Compared with the global scale, China's big data growth will be faster than the global average growth rate, and China will usher in the rapid expansion of big data market in the next few years. This paper presents the overall big data development in China in terms of market scale and development stages, enterprise development in the industry chain, the technology standards, and industrial applications. The paper points out the issues and challenges facing big data development in China and proposes to make polices and create support approaches for big data transactions and personal privacy protection.

Abstract:This paper surveys big data with highlighting the big data analytics in medicine and healthcare. Big data characteristics: value, volume, velocity, variety, veracity and variability are described. Big data analytics in medicine and healthcare covers integration and analysis of large amount of complex heterogeneous data such as various - omics data (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, interactomics, pharmacogenomics, diseasomics), biomedical data and electronic health records data. We underline the challenging issues about big data privacy and security. Regarding big data characteristics, some directions of using suitable and promising open-source distributed data processing software platform are given.

Abstract:The 21 st century is an era of information technology and people faces information explosion with large amount of data. The term big data has been defined in Wikepedia as: big data is the term for a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications. In all areas of disciplines, such a big data may help to explore underlying mechanisms of varieties of phenomenon, and further facilitate decision-making. For example, in the 2012 USA presidential election, data-driven decision-making played a huge role in helping Obama win (1). In biomedical field, big data also begin to show its important role. Medical decision-making is becoming more and more dependent on data analysis, rather than conventional experience and intuition (2).

Abstract:At the beginning of 2017, the National scientific data sharing platform for population and health (NSDSPPH) released 49.1 TB data on Chinese population and health. The data comprise 280 million observations involving the fields of biomedicine, basic medicine, clinical medicine, public health, traditional Chinese medicine, pharmacology, population and reproductive health (http://www.ncmi.cn/1). NSDSPPH is a major project of the national science and technology infrastructure. It was launched in 2003. Clinical investigators may be interested in clinical data contained in NSDSPPH. The clinical data center is jointly established by Peking Union medical college hospital and Chinese PLA general hospital. After more than 10 years of endeavor, the clinical data center has become more and more sophisticated. Clinical data were collected from hospitals nationwide with strict criteria for data entry. Data are presented in several forms such as raw data, summary data and statistical report. The clinical data are accessible to the public and researchers. Additionally, the center also provides services of statistical analysis and data mining. Numerous scientific papers have been published using the database. Some examples include the correlation between waist circumference and respiratory function in teenagers (1), epidemiological study on coexisting prehypertension and prediabetes in northern China (2), and the Association between γ-glutamyltransferase and prehypertension (3).

Abstract:The development of intensive care medicine is inseparable from the diversified monitoring data. Intensive care medicine has been closely integrated with data since its birth. Critical care research requires an integrative approach that embraces the complexity of critical illness and the computational technology and algorithms that can make it possible. Considering the need of standardization of application of big data in intensive care, Intensive Care Medicine Branch of China Health Information and Health Care Big Data Society, Standard Committee has convened expert group, secretary group and the external audit expert group to formulate Chinese Experts’ Consensus on the Application of Intensive Care Big Data (2022). This consensus makes 29 recommendations on the following five parts: Concept of intensive care big data, Important scientific issues, Standards and principles of database, Methodology in solving big data problems, Clinical application and safety consideration of intensive care big data. The consensus group believes this consensus is the starting step of application big data in the field of intensive care. More explorations and big data based retrospective research should be carried out in order to enhance safety and reliability of big data based models of critical care field.

Abstract:Objective To cxplore the research and application of big data mining technology in clinical healthcare environment.Methods The characteristics of clinical heahhcare data mining methods were expounded and the current research status of healthcare data mining technology was analyzed in clinical task according to the literature mining.Meanwhile,the application of healthcare data mining in clinical environment was introduced from the following four aspects:medicine research,personalized diagnosis,risk prediction and process mining.Results The necessity and importance of research and application of clinical healthcare data mining were illustrated.Moreover,the achicvements of healthcare data mining in clinical application,as well as existing problems and technical difficulties were summarized.Furthermore,the development tendencies of healthcare data mining were predicted.Conclusion The research and application of clinical healthcare data mining have improved the healthcare quality and promoted the medical advances,which is the developmcnt direction of clinical healthcare research.
Using Big Data to Improve Cardiovascular Care and Outcomes in China: a Protocol for the CHinese Electronic Health Records Research in Yinzhou (CHERRY) Study

Abstract:Introduction Data based on electronic health records (EHRs) are rich with individual-level longitudinal measurement information and are becoming an increasingly common data source for clinical risk prediction worldwide. However, few EHR-based cohort studies are available in China. Harnessing EHRs for research requires a full understanding of data linkages, management, and data quality in large data sets, which presents unique analytical opportunities and challenges. The purpose of this study is to provide a framework to establish a uniquely integrated EHR database in China for scientific research. Methods and analysis The CHinese Electronic health Records Research in Yinzhou (CHERRY) Study will extract individual participant data within the regional health information system of an eastern coastal area of China to establish a longitudinal population-based ambispective cohort study for cardiovascular care and outcomes research. A total of 1 053 565 Chinese adults aged over 18 years were registered in the health information system in 2009, and there were 23 394 deaths from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2015. The study will include information from multiple epidemiological surveys; EHRs for chronic disease management; and health administrative, clinical, laboratory, drug and electronic medical record (EMR) databases. Follow-up of fatal and non-fatal clinical events is achieved through records linkage to the regional system of disease surveillance, chronic disease management and EMRs (based on diagnostic codes from the International Classification of Diseases, tenth revision). The CHERRY Study will provide a unique platform and serve as a valuable big data resource for cardiovascular risk prediction and population management, for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events in China. Ethics and dissemination The CHERRY Study was approved by the Peking University Institutional Review Board (IRB00001052-16011) in April 2016. Results of the study will be disseminated through published journal articles, conferences and seminar presentations, and on the study website (http://www.cherry-study.org).

Abstract:In the process of rapid socio-economic development, people’s living standards have been improved to varying degrees. At the same time, more and more people are turning their attention to physical health while satisfying their material and spiritual lives. In order to provide more effective health protection, China has established a medical system covering the whole country. While increasing medical investment, China has improved its medical level through the integration of high-tech, including the application of big data technology in smart healthcare. This article first introduces the basic framework of intelligent analysis and cloud computing, and then applies medical big data mining and formulas to the field of smart healthcare, which can adjust smart healthcare by calculating the average and standard deviation of medical care. Finally, practical analysis is conducted on big data mining in smart healthcare, and it is analyzed that it is in line with smart healthcare big data mining. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the level of medical big data preprocessing, and the data mining effect is good. Finally, this article explains the new technologies such as medical IoT, cloud computing, big data mining, and intelligent analysis in the definition of smart healthcare, as well as analyzes the basic concepts and business forms to prove the effectiveness of smart healthcare. Among them, this article obtains relevant health data from various sensors of patients, achieving 78% recognition, 87% detection, and 92% control of the tested object from Data 1 to Data 4. Therefore, combining big data mining with intelligent algorithms in smart healthcare can greatly improve assistance.

Abstract:The term "Big Data" originated at the 11th Electronic Materials Conference World Annual Conference, which originally referred to the large amount of data generated by the application of technology.[1] Medical big data includes not only the medical history and examination data accumulated during patient hospitalization, but also patient-related follow-up data, prognostic data from outpatient, emergency, and medical insurance settlement departments as well as clinical experiment centers. So far, it has profound applications in the various specialties of medicine.[2–4] However, intensive care medicine (ICU) is different from other medical fields. In comparison with clinical practice data, medical data in ICU have the following characteristics: large scale, rapid production, diverse dimensions, inaccuracies, heterogeneity, incompleteness, complexity, and privacy concerns.[5] In fact, in the process of constructing major ICU databases in China and worldwide, these databases have been optimized at great length. Taking heterogeneity as an example, the possible formats for medical data include text type, digital type, and image type. Text-based data include demographic characteristics, drug use, medical history, and symptoms. Digital data include various laboratory test results, vital signs, and monitoring instrument data. Image-type data include various imaging evaluations, such as type-B ultrasound, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, X-ray, and other examinations. In the formation of a database, standardized formats for text-type data are required. For digital data, the time of the collection is emphasized, and trends in treatment methods and various indicators are considered. For image data, in addition to conventional imaging reports, an artificial intelligence image reading model could be established by combining diagnoses and image characteristics. So far, China has not yet reached an industry-standard consensus in the field of critical care medicine. The Critical Care Medicine Branch of the China Health Information and Health Care Big Data Society was established in March 2019 and aims to establish and promote critical care big data applications. After a comprehensive investigation, it was found that quantity and quality of ICU database construction were limited. More effort should be made to improve this situation. We fully believe that the development of China's critical care databases will make utmost of big data platform, which could provide patients with better diagnosis and treatment processes, provide management decision-makers with accurate and objective diagnosis and provide medical researchers with a higher-quality data.

Abstract:Big data analytics are gaining popularity in medical engineering and healthcare use cases. Stakeholders are finding big data analytics reduce medical costs and personalise medical services for each individual patient. Big data analytics can be used in large-scale genetics studies, public health, personalised and precision medicine, new drug development, etc. The introduction of the types, sources, and features of big data in healthcare as well as the applications and benefits of big data and big data analytics in healthcare is key to understanding healthcare big data and will be discussed in this article. Major methods, platforms and tools of big data analytics in medical engineering and healthcare are also presented. Advances and technology progress of big data analytics in healthcare are introduced, which includes artificial intelligence (AI) with big data, infrastructure and cloud computing, advanced computation and data processing, privacy and cybersecurity, health economic outcomes and technology management, and smart healthcare with sensing, wearable devices and Internet of things (IoT). Current challenges of dealing with big data and big data analytics in medical engineering and healthcare as well as future work are also presented.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To review theories and technologies of big data mining and their application in clinical medicine.DATA SOURCES: Literatures published in English or Chinese regarding theories and technologies of big data mining and the concrete applications of data mining technology in clinical medicine were obtained from PubMed and Chinese Hospital Knowledge Database from 1975 to 2015.STUDY SELECTION: Original articles regarding big data mining theory/technology and big data mining's application in the medical field were selected.RESULTS: This review characterized the basic theories and technologies of big data mining including fuzzy theory, rough set theory, cloud theory, Dempster-Shafer theory, artificial neural network, genetic algorithm, inductive learning theory, Bayesian network, decision tree, pattern recognition, high-performance computing, and statistical analysis. The application of big data mining in clinical medicine was analyzed in the fields of disease risk assessment, clinical decision support, prediction of disease development, guidance of rational use of drugs, medical management, and evidence-based medicine.CONCLUSION: Big data mining has the potential to play an important role in clinical medicine.

Abstract:Abstract By understanding the international research hotspots in this field, we hope to provide reference information for health big data researchers to grasp the research hotspots and frontiers. By searching the relevant literature in the field of international health big data research in the Web of Science database, using the method of bibliometrics to draw a visual map. Results A total of 3850 articles were retrieved. Since 2013, the number of health big data research papers has shown a rapid growth. Harvard Medical School, University of Michigan and Stanford University are the research institutions with the largest number of papers in this field. The United States is the most active in the field of big data research, with 1506 papers, far higher than other countries, followed by China, the United Kingdom and South Korea. International health big data research hotspots include research on Intelligent wearable devices, design and development of health big data monitoring system, and application of health big data in precision medicine. The research reveals the characteristics and hotspots of international health big data research field, and provides some references for the development direction of this field in China.

Abstract:Biomedical research often involves studying patient data that contain personal information. Inappropriate use of these data might lead to leakage of sensitive information, which can put patient privacy at risk. The problem of preserving patient privacy has received increasing attentions in the era of big data. Many privacy methods have been developed to protect against various attack models. This paper reviews relevant topics in the context of biomedical research. We discuss privacy preserving technologies related to (1) record linkage, (2) synthetic data generation, and (3) genomic data privacy. We also discuss the ethical implications of big data privacy in biomedicine and present challenges in future research directions for improving data privacy in biomedical research.
