Abstract:A highly stereo- and chemoselective intermolecular coupling of diverse heterocycles with dialkynylphosphine oxides has been realized via cobalt/rhodium-catalyzed C−H bond activation. This protocol provides an efficient synthetic entry to functionalized 1,2-dihydrophosphete oxides in excellent yields via merger of C-H bond activation and formal 1,2-migration of the phosphoryl group. Compared with traditional methods of synthesis of 1,2-dihydrophosphetes that predominantly relied on stoichiometric metal reagents, this catalytic system features high efficiency, a relatively short reaction time, atom-economy, and operational simplicity. Photophysical properties of selected 1,2-dihydrophosphete oxides are also disclosed.

Abstract:On account of the broad utilities of organophosphorus compounds, the development of highly efficient and concise phosphination methods is significantly important and urgent. Herein, we disclose a novel method for the synthesis of phosphorylated heterocycles: versatile intermediate propargylamines serving as a new type of radical acceptors incorporated in P-radicals via a photocatalytic strategy. This reaction proceeds through a cascade phosphinoylation/ cyclization/oxidation/aromatization pathway using readily available starting materials under mild conditions of light with excellent atom economy, catalyzed by AgOAc or fac-Ir(ppy)(3). One of the phosphorylated quinolines was selected, as an example, as an electron-transporting material for fabricating phosphorescence organic light-emitting diodes displaying excellent electroluminescence performances with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 21.9% with negligible efficiency roll-off ratios.

Abstract:An efficient method for the synthesis of organophosphonates through palladium-catalyzed coupling of α-diazo phosphonates with benzyl or allyl halides has been developed. Trisubstituted alkenylphosphonates bearing versatile functional groups can be easily accessed in good yields and with excellent stereoselectivity through this method. Moreover, with similar strategy α-substituted vinylphosphonates can also be attained by the palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction of N-tosylhydrazones and aryl bromides. Migratory insertion of palladium carbene is proposed as the key step in this reaction.

Abstract:The first solvent-controlled copper-catalyzed oxidative decarboxylative coupling of alkenyl acids with P(O)H compounds for alkenyl C(sp(2))-P bond formation by a freeradical process is reported. The reaction enables the highly chemo-and stereoselective synthesis of various (E)-alkenylphosphonates and (E)-alkenylphosphinate oxides in moderate to good yields. On the basis of this catalytic system, styr-enes and b-nitrostyrene as well as alkenyl acids can also give the corresponding products by cross-dehydrogenative coupling and denitration, respectively. By altering the oxidant, the oxyphosphorylation of styrenes with P(O)H compounds readily yields beta-ketophosphonates. The reaction described here enables a versatile and practical avenue for the formation of valuable C-P bonds.

Abstract:The copper-catalyzed enantioselective radical difunctionalization of alkenes from readily available alkyl halides and organophosphorus reagents possessing a P-H bond provides an appealing approach for the synthesis of α-chiral alkyl phosphorus compounds. The major challenge arises from the easy generation of a P-centered radical from the P-H-type reagent and its facile addition to the terminal side of alkenes, leading to reverse chemoselectivity. We herein disclose a radical 1,2-carbophosphonylation of styrenes in a highly chemo- and enantioselective manner. The key to the success lies in not only the implementation of dialkyl phosphites with a strong bond dissociation energy to promote the desired chemoselectivity but also the utilization of an anionic chiral N,N,N-ligand to forge the chiral C(sp3 )-P bond. The developed Cu/N,N,N-ligand catalyst has enriched our library of single-electron transfer catalysts in the enantioselective radical transformations.

Abstract:Phosphorous-containing heterocycles have attracted particular interest because they exhibit markedly different properties than common oxygen-, nitrogen-, and/or sulfur-based heterocyclic compounds. However, the study of such molecules remains difficult because of a lack of synthetic methods with which to synthesize them, especially with respect to the construction of P-stereogenic centers. Here, we present a simple, versatile method for the synthesis of PN-heterocycles bearing P(V) centers from phosphanamines through palladium-catalyzed intramolecular C–P coupling. Under the developed catalytic systems, chiral PN-heterocycles can be produced from P(III)-stereogenic precursors without loss of stereochemical integrity. Computational studies revealed the detailed reaction pathway and the origin of stereospecificity. The methods showed excellent functional-group tolerance, allowing access to diverse, optoelectronically relevant products that are stable under air and moisture.

Abstract:Alkenylphosphine oxides have a wide spectrum of practical applications. However, chemo-, regio-, and enantiocontrolled construction of this structural motif still constitutes a significant synthetic challenge. Here we show that these compounds can be efficiently accessed by using a palladium/Xiao-Phos catalytic system, which leads to the highly regioselective formation of the anti-Markovnikov adducts through addition of a secondary phosphine oxide to an alkyne. Diverse (hetero)aryl and alkyl alkynes, as well as both terminal and internal alkynes can be employed as substrates. The kinetic resolution process makes it possible to produce alkenylphosphine oxide and recovered secondary phosphine oxides with high ee values. Further transformations of these two P-chiral scaffolds confirm the high practicability and application prospect of our synthetic strategies. Initial mechanistic studies strongly suggested that hydropalladation is likely responsible for the conversion process.

Abstract:The first iron‐catalyzed oxophosphorylation of styrene derivatives with dialkyl H‐phosphonates under open air conditions is developed, which generates a range of previously underexplored α‐substituted β‐ketophosphonates in 55 ~ 70% yields. Furthermore, a convenient one‐pot procedure by direct conversion of styrenes to α, β‐unsaturated ketones is also developed based on the new catalytic reactions, thus offering a protocol to access two classes of valuable products from simple starting materials.

Abstract:Pentaphenylferrocenyl di-tert-butylphosphine has been prepared in high yield from a two-step synthetic procedure, and the scope of various cross-coupling processes catalyzed by complexes bearing this ligand has been investigated. This ligand creates a remarkably general palladium catalyst for aryl halide amination and for Suzuki coupling. Turnovers of roughly 1000 were observed for aminations with unactivated aryl bromides or chlorides. In addition, complexes of this ligand catalyzed the formation of selected aryl ethers under mild conditions. The reactions encompassed electron-rich and electron-poor aryl bromides and chlorides. In the presence of catalysts containing this ligand, these aryl halides coupled with acyclic or cyclic secondary alkyl- and arylamines, with primary alkyl- and arylamines, and with aryl- and primary alkylboronic acids. These last couplings provide the first general procedure for reaction of terminal alkylboronic acids with aryl halides without toxic or expensive bases. The ligand not only generates highly active palladium catalysts, but it is air stable in solution and in the solid state. Palladium(0) complexes of this ligand are also air stable as a solid and react only slowly with oxygen in solution.

Abstract:Developing practical and mild strategies for the direct functionalization of white phosphorus (P4 ) without chlorination is an appealing but formidable challenge. To this end, we report a breakthrough in the preparation of structurally diverse dialkylphosphines and trialkylphosphines that rely on the successive generation of carbon-centered radicals from N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) esters and the controllable alkylation of the P4 molecule under transition-metal- and photocatalyst-free conditions. To facilitate separation and prevent product losses during purification, the corresponding oxidation products dialkylphosphine oxides (DAPOs) and trialkylphosphine oxides (TAPOs) were isolated. This photoinduced phosphorylation reaction features one-pot operation, high product selectivity, and tolerates a broad range of alkyl NHPI esters, including derivatives of complex natural products and pharmaceuticals. Further diversified transformation of DAPOs to construct P-F, P-C, P-N, and P-O bonds was also demonstrated.

Abstract:The synthesis of aryl phosphonates via nickel and palladium‐catalyzed cross‐coupling of aryl fluorosulfonates and phosphites is described. The products were obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions with broad functional group compatibility, employing either Pd(OAc) 2 and DPEPhos or the readily available NiCl 2 (dme) and Xantphos as catalytic systems. Noteworthily, the present C(sp 2 )–P bond formation method could be applied to the direct conversion of phenols to the corresponding aryl phosphonates in one pot via reaction of phenols with SO 2 F 2 and subsequent palladium‐catalyzed cross‐coupling.

Abstract:A K2S2O8/Cu(OAc)2-mediated oxidative C-H/P-H cross-coupling of aldehyde hydrazones with diphenylphosphine oxide for the direct preparation of functionalized α-iminophosphine oxides is reported. The reaction shows good functional group tolerance and proceeds smoothly under mild conditions. This strategic protocol for C-P bond formation is facilitated by a net oxidative aminyl radical-polar crossover process.
