Abstract:The reflectance spectra of soil samples with different water contents is measured by portable Fourier transform infrared spectrometer in laboratory to clarify the spectral thermal infrared radiation characteristics of different soil moisture contents. Attempt to establish soil water content estimation model based on Moisture Diagnostic Index (MDI). In general, the spectral characteristics of laboratory soil emissivity include the following aspects. First, in t the range of wavelength from 8.0 to 9.5 mu m, with the increase of soil moisture content, the emissivity of soil also increased to some extent. The spectral curve is relatively parallel and has a certain horizontal trend. The cosine absorption characteristics are also relatively weakened with the increase of soil moisture in the area. Secondly, in the wavelengths from 11.0 to 14.0 mu m, the emissivity of the soil tends to increase. There is an absorption around 12.7 mu m. As the soil moisture increases, the depth of absorption also increases. This phenomenon may be caused by soil moisture absorption. As a derivative, the method of differential and normalized ratio transformation can effectively attenuate the background noise to the spectral data. In particular, using the average emissivity from 8 to 14 mu m can significantly improve the correlation between soil moisture and soil emissivity. According to the result of correlation analysis, 8.237 mu m is considered as the best soil moisture content detection zone. In addition, based on MDI in the wavelengths from 8.194 to 8.279 mu m, a logarithmic model for estimating soil moisture was established.
