COS is also an ideal one-carbon (C1) building block for synthesizing sulfur-containing polymers via two synthetic routes in the presence of epoxides. One is the COS/epoxides alternating copolymerization to polythiocarbonate catalyzed by various efficient metal catalysts and organocatalysts. Another one is the synthesis of polythioethers by utilizing the unique oxygen/sulfur exchange reaction which is ever-present in the copolymerization of sulfur-containing C1 monomers (COS and carbon disulfide) with epoxides. In this chapter, we highlight the efforts on the utilization of COS for the synthesis of a new family of sulfur-containing polymers. The syntheses of crystalline COS-derived polythiocarbonates and block copolymers are also demonstrated. Finally, we introduce the discovered properties of the COS-derived polymers including optical, electronic, crystalline, and degradable properties.
