Abstract:Objectives: Intravenous thrombolysis and thrombectomy are recommended for patients whose stroke onsets are within first 6 h, and very few options are available for patients whose stroke onset is more than 6 h, which includes most ischemic stroke patients. Human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) showed potential clinical benefits in acute ischemic stroke patients. This study aims to investigate the safety and clinical benefits of HUK in ischemic stroke patients.Patients and methods: Patients were recruited for a multicenter double-blind, placebo-controlled phase II b and phase III trial. Neurophysiological outcomes were assessed by the European Stroke Scale (ESS) and the functional outcomes were assessed by the activity of daily living scale (ADL). Safety was monitored by recording adverse events.Results: The improvements in ESS scores and ADL scores in the HUK group were significantly greater than that in patients receiving placebo. Furthermore, HUK treatment was also associated with a lower rate of disable, according to ADL. HUK-related adverse events occurred at a low rate, in 1.73% of HUK-treated patients.Conclusion: HUK is safe and provides potential clinical benefits as a treatment for acute ischemic stroke. Further large post-marketing observational studies are needed.

Abstract:Objective: To study the effects of human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) treatment on acute cerebral ischemia (ACI) using magnetic resonance perfusion weighted imaging (MRP) methods. Methods: In a non-randomized controlled clinical trial, 30 patients diagnosed with ACI were enrolled and divided manually into 2 groups. The experimental group, consisting of 18 participants, was treated with HUK (0.15 Perinatal Assessment Unit/day) for 7 consecutive days. The control group was treated with routine medication. The participants underwent MRP examination on the first and fourteenth day after onset. The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV), mean transit time (MTT), and time to peak (TTP) were compared between the groups. Results: After undergoing therapy, the experimental HUK-treated group had lower NIHSS scores than the control group (p<0.05). The CBF improved more in the HUK-treated group than in the control group (p<0.05). Additionally, MTT and TTP were shorter in the HUK-treated group than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Human urinary kallidinogenase improves CBF and ameliorates neurological deficits. Human urinary kallidinogenase is a safe and effective treatment approach for treating patients with ACI.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: Some acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients still suffer from early neurological deterioration (END) after receiving intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), and these patients often have a poor prognosis. The purpose of our study is to observe the efficacy and safety of human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) treatment in patients with END.METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis and 49 patients with END who met the inclusion criteria were divided into the observation group and the control group. All patients received routine treatment of AIS, while patients in the observation group were treated with HUK within 24 h after IVT and the other group without HUK.RESULTS: There were 24 patients in the observation group and 25 patients in the control group. After treatment, favorable prognosis (mRS scores ≤2) at 3 months in the observation group with 13 cases (54.17%) was significantly better than that in the control group with four cases (16%) (p = .001), and there was no statistical difference between the two groups in any hemorrhagic complication.CONCLUSION: HUK is considered to be safe and may improve the prognosis of AIS patients with END after IVT. More clinical trials are needed to validate these results in the future.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a new drug,human urinary kallidinogenase,against acute brain infarction.Method A 15-center,randomized,double-blinded and 3:1 placebo-controlled study was carried out.Acute brain infarction within 48 hours of onset in the territory of the middle cerebral artery were indicated as subjects;kallidinogenase or placebo which was dissolved in 50 ml saline,was slowly injected intraveousely within 30 minutes daily for 3 weeks.The European Stroke Scale and Barthel Index were used to evaluate the neurological deficit and the activities of daily living(ADL),followed by a follow-up at the end of the third month.Results 446 patients were enrolled,who completed ITT analysis,including 330 in kallidinogenase group and 116 in placebo group,meanwhile 421 proceeded with PP analysis(311 and 110 respectively).There were no significant differences of the baseline data between the 2 groups.At the end of treatment,the ESS scores increased by 55.1%±33.0% and 44.7%±32.8% respectively in kallidinogenase group(KG)and placebo group(PG,P=0.0022),the difference being significant.PP analysis had similar results.As for ADL,follow-up 90 days after the treatment showed 374 cases followed,280 in KG and 94 in PG;1 died in PG,while none in KG.In KG,the cases whose BI≥50 were significantly more than those in PG(P=0.0228).Adverse events possibly or definitely attributable to the drug were observed in 27 cases(7.74%),mostly were mild,such as palpitation,flush,dizziness, nausea etc,without special management needed.Only 2 died which was confirmed not correlated to kallidinogenase,and another 2 cases of sudden blood pressure drop were observed.The blood pressure drop, quickly restoring soon after the withdrawal of kallidinogenase and use of hemopiesic drugs,was considered to be caused by the combination use of anti-hypertensive drug ACEI and quick infusion speed.Conclusion Kallidinogenase is efficacious for acute brain infarction in improving the neurological deficits,which is safe in clinical use.

Abstract:This study aimed to assess the effects of human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) on motor function outcome and corticospinal tract recovery in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This study was a randomized, controlled, single-blinded trial. Eighty AIS patients were split into two groups: the HUK and control groups. The HUK group was administered HUK and standard treatment, while the control group received standard treatment only. At admission and discharge, the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Barthel Index (BI) and muscle strength were scored. The primary endpoint was the short-term outcomes of AIS patients under different treatments. The secondary endpoint was the degree of corticospinal tract fiber damage under different treatments. There was a significant improvement in the NIHSS Scale, BI and muscle strength scores in the HUK group compared with controls (Mann–Whitney U test; P < 0.05). Diffusion tensor tractography classification and intracranial arterial stenosis were independent predictors of short-term recovery by linear regression analysis. The changes in fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) decline rate were significantly smaller in the HUK group than in the control group ( P < 0.05). Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) increased significantly after HUK treatment ( P < 0.05), and the VEGF change was negatively correlated with changes in ADC. HUK is beneficial for the outcome in AIS patients especially in motor function recovery. It may have protective effects on the corticospinal tract which is reflected by the reduction in the FA and ADC decline rates and increased VEGF expression. The study was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (unique identifier: NCT04102956).

Abstract:Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow &Metabolism, Ahead of Print. The effectiveness and safety of human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT) due to large vessel occlusion (LVO) was unclear. A pooled analysis was performed using individual data from the DEVT and RESCUE BT trials. Patients were divided into two groups based on HUK treatment. The primary outcome was the 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score. Safety outcomes included 90-day mortality and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) within 48 hours. A total of 1174 patients were included in the study. Of these, 150 (12.8%) patients received HUK. The adjusted common odds ratio (OR) of the mRS score was 1.458 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.072–1.983; p = 0.016) favoring HUK. The incidence of sICH (2.0% vs. 8.6%; adjusted OR: 0.198; 95% CI: 0.061–0.638; p = 0.007) and mortality (11.3% vs.18.5%; adjusted OR: 0.496; 95% CI: 0.286–0.862; p = 0.013) was lower in HUK group than non-HUK group. This association was consistent with propensity score-matching and the inverse probability of treatment weighting analysis. In conclusion, HUK was safe and associated with a preferable prognosis in AIS patients due to LVO in the anterior circulation.

Abstract:Aims: Human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) has shown favorable efficacies in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treatment. We sought confirmation of the safety and efficacy of HUK for AIS in a large population. Methods: RESK study enrolled patients with AIS of anterior circulation to receive HUK infusion. The primary endpoint was the incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs). Secondary endpoints assessed neurological and functional improvements and stroke recurrent rate. Results: Of 1206 eligible patients, 1202 patients received at least one dose of HUK infusion and 983 (81.5%) completed the study. The incidence of treatment-emergent AEs and serious AEs were 55.99% and 2.41%, respectively. Pre-specified AEs of special interest occurred in 21.71% of patients, but the majority were mild and unrelated to therapy. Hypertension, age, treatment time, and drug combination were identified to be associated with drug-related blood pressure reduction. Neurological and functional evaluations revealed favorable outcomes from baseline to post-treatment assessment. The cumulative recurrence rate of stroke was 2.50% during the 90-day assessment. Conclusion: HUK had an acceptable safety and tolerability profile in AIS patients. Besides, HUK demonstrated the neurological and functional improvements in AIS, further confirming its clinical efficacy in a real-world large population.

Abstract:The term "tissue kallikrein" is used to describe a group of serine proteases shared considerable sequence homology and colocalize in the same chromosomal locus 19q13. 2-q13.4. It has been widely discovered in various tissues and has been proved to be involved in kinds of pathophysiological processes, such as inhibiting oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, fibrosis and promoting angiogenesis, and neurogenesis. Human Urinary Kallidinogenase (HUK) extracted from human urine is a member of tissue kallikrein which could convert kininogen to kinin and hence improve the plasma kinin level. Medical value of HUK has been widely investigated in China, especially on acute ischemic stroke. In this review, we will summarize the therapeutic values of Human Urinary Kallidinogenase on acute ischemic stroke and its potential mechanisms.

Abstract:Angiogenesisis a key restorative mechanism in response to ischemia, and pro-angiogenic therapy could be beneficial in stroke. Accumulating experimental and clinical evidence suggest that human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) improves stroke outcome, but the underlying mechanisms are not clear. The aim of current study was to verify roles of HUK in post-ischemic angiogenesis and identify relevant mediators. In rat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model, we confirmed that HUK treatment could improve stroke outcome, indicated by reduced infarct size and improved neurological function. Notably, the 18F-FDG micro-PET scan indicated that HUK enhanced cerebral perfusion in rats after MCAO treatment. In addition, HUK promotespost-ischemic angiogenesis, with increased vessel density as well as up-regulated VEGF andapelin/APJ expression in HUK-treated MCAO mice. In endothelial cell cultures, induction of VEGF and apelin/APJ expression, and ERK1/2 phosphorylation by HUK was further confirmed. These changes were abrogated by U0126, a selective ERK1/2 inhibitor. Moreover, F13A, a competitive antagonist of APJ receptor, significantly suppressed HUK-induced VEGF expression. Furthermore, angiogenic functions of HUK were inhibited in the presence of selective bradykinin B1 or B2 receptor antagonist both in vitro and in vivo. Our findings indicate that HUK treatment promotes post-ischemic angiogenesis and cerebral perfusion via activation of bradykinin B1 and B2 receptors, which is potentially due to enhancement expression of VEGF and apelin/APJ in ERK1/2 dependent way.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Improving cerebral perfusion remains a good option for ischemic stroke for restoring cerebral blood flow. Human urinary kallidinogenase has been shown promising in treating stroke patients. To investigate whether human urinary kallidinogenase's efficacy in treating stroke patients has relationship with improving cerebral perfusion and possible mechanism.METHODS:Fifty-eight stroke patients in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital were enrolled in this prospective study. Of them, 29 received human urinary kallidinogenase, while the other 29 were selected as control. National institute health stroke scale, modified Rankin Scale and activities of daily living score were used to determine patient outcome. Cerebral perfusion in patients was determined by perfusion magnetic resonance imaging. Serum apelin and vascular endothelial growth factor were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.RESULTS:We confirmed that human urinary kallidinogenase improved stroke outcome in patients. Cerebral perfusion was elevated by human urinary kallidinogenase 12 days after therapy. Human urinary kallidinogenase enhanced vascular endothelial growth factor and APJ expression in stroke patients. The reduced mean transit time was related with favorable outcome analyzed by univariate logistic regression.CONCLUSIONS:Human urinary kallidinogenase facilitated stroke recovery and enhanced cerebral reperfusion through up-regulating vascular endothelial growth factor, apelin/APJ pathway.
Human Urinary Kallidinogenase or Edaravone Combined with Butylphthalide in the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke

Abstract:Abstract Aim The effectiveness of neuroprotective agents is still unclear. Here we analyzed the clinical outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients treated with human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) or edaravone (Eda) combined with butylphthalide (NBP). Methods From January 2016 to December 2017, a total of 165 AIS patients were enrolled in this open‐label, randomized controlled clinical study. Patients were randomly allocated into HUK group and Eda group in a ratio of 2:1. All the patients received basic treatments and NBP (200 mg p.o. qid) while HUK group received 0.15 PNA unit of HUK injection (ivgtt. qd) and Eda group received 30 mg Eda (ivgtt. bid) for 14 consecutive days. Independency rate [12‐month modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score ≤ 1] and related factors were compared between the two groups. Results Twelve‐month mRS score of the HUK group (1, IQR 0~1) was significantly lower compared with Eda group (2, IQR 1~3, p < .0001). The HUK treatment achieved an independency rate of 79.1% while the Eda treatment only had 45.3% (p < .0001). Further binary logistic regression showed that recurrent stroke (RR: 0.1, 95% CI: 0.0~0.1, p = .038) and HUK treatment (RR: 4.2, 95% CI: 1.1~16.5, p = .041) could significantly affect patients' 12‐month outcomes. Conclusion Human urinary kallidinogenase combined with NBP can enhance AIS patients' long‐term independency rate, and the effectiveness of HUK combined therapy is better than Eda.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to investigate the possible mechanism and the neuroprotective effect of human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) in cerebral ischemia. The mouse middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model was used. Mice were treated with HUK (20 PNAU/g per day, intravenous) or saline as control, from the beginning of reperfusion to 72 h. Neurological deficits, infarct size, and BWC were measured at 6, 24, 48, and 72 h after MCAO, respectively. Pathological changes of brain were observed by TUNEL assay. Inflammatory factors were measured by real-time PCR and western blotting. Activation of MAPKs, Akt, and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) was detected by western blotting. Our results indicated that HUK significantly improved neurofunction, decreased infarct size, and suppressed edema, as well as inflammatory mediators as compared with the vehicle group. Furthermore, HUK inhibited the NF-κB pathway and activated the MAPK/ERK pathway in this neuroprotection.
Randomized Controlled Trial of Human Urinary Kallikrein in the Treatment of Acute Cerebral Infarction

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of human urinary kallikrein in treatment of acute cerebral infarction in the vascular distribution of the internal carotid artery within 48 hours from the onset.METHODS A randomized,double-blind,(3∶1) placebo control clinical study was performed.Patients consistent with the inclusion criteria were randomized into two groups,the treatment group(45 cases) was received human urinary kallikrein 0.15 PNA~U and Venoruton injection 200 mg intravenously once a day,while control group(15 cases) was received placebo and Venoruton injection 200 mg intravenously once a day.The duration of treatment was 21 days for both groups.The European Stroke Scale(ESS) and Barthel Index(BI) were used to evaluate the recovery of neurological functions.RESULTS ESS and BI scores increased significantly in treatment groups compared with that of control group after treatment.No drug adverse reaction were found in these two groups.CONCLUSION Human urinary kallikrein is effective and relatively safe in treatment of acute cerebral infarction in the vascular distribution of the internal carotid artery.

Abstract:Objective We aim to investigate the effect of Urinary Kallidinogenase on cerebral autoregulation in a-cute ischemic stroke patients .Methods 58 patients with unilateral internal carotid artery ischemic stroke within 3 days on-set were enrolled and randomly divided to Urinary Kallidinogenase group and the control group .30 patients in the control group were treated with basic medication for ischemic stroke .Urinary Kallidinogenase group were treated with Urinary Kal-lidinogenase 0.15 PNA,once a day,continuous infusion for (8 ±2) days on the addition of basic medication .Transcranial Doppler ultrasound combined with servo-controlled plethysmograph ,was used to evaluate cerebral autoregulation before and after treatment in both groups .Results In Urinary Kallidinogenase group ,phase difference ( PD) on affected hemisphere was significantly higher after than before treatment; while on unaffected hemisphere ,phase difference was not statistically significant before and after treatment .In the control group , PD on both hemispheres were not significant before and after treatment .Conclusion Urinary Kallidinogenase may improve cerebral autoregulation in the affected hemisphere with acute ischemic stroke patients .
Re-evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Human Urinary Kallidinogenase (RESK): Protocol for an Open-Label, Single-Arm, Multicenter Phase IV Trial for the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke in Chinese Patients

Abstract:Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a major medical challenge in China. Thrombolytic drugs recommended for the treatment of AIS usually have a narrow time window. Human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) was approved by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) in 2005 for the treatment of mild to moderate AIS, and it is thus widely used in China. However, large-scale clinical study data for a more complete understanding of various aspects of its safety and efficacy characteristics are still unavailable. The ongoing Reevaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Human Urinary Kallidinogenase (RESK) trial is designed to reevaluate the safety and efficacy of HUK in Chinese patients with AIS. RESK is an open-label, single-arm, multicenter phase IV trial. A total of 2186 Chinese patients with AIS will be enrolled. All patients receive HUK by intravenous drip once daily for 21 consecutive days. The study has registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02562183). On 8 September 2016, 202 patients have been enrolled. Primary outcome includes the frequency and severity of adverse events. Secondary outcomes include functional improvement measured by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, Barthel index, and modified Rankin Scale, and recurrence rate of ischemic stroke. Data from large-scale clinical studies are still unavailable concerning the post-marketing use of HUK. The RESK study is designed to provide a comprehensive reevaluation of the safety and efficacy of HUK in Chinese patients with AIS. Abstract:Objective: This study discusses the therapeutic effect of high-dose urokinase treatment for hypertension ventricular hemorrhage. Methods: A total of 60 patients with hypertension ventricular hemorrhage were randomly assigned to two groups: treatment group (n = 30)and control group (n = 30). Both groups received bilateral external ventricular drain. The treatment group was injected with 50,000 IU urokinase to the lateral ventricle every day; the total injection volume per day was 100,000 IU. The control group was injected with 20,000 IU urokinase to the lateral ventricle every day with a total injection volume per day of 40,000 IU. Lumbar puncture was performed in both groups after the later ventricular drain was removed to release cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Head Computed tomography(CT) examination was performed regularly to observe changes in the ventricular hematoma as well as the occurrence of complications such as intracranial infection and hydrocephalus. Patient prognosis 6 weeks after surgery was compared between the two groups. Results: In the treatment group, the intraventricular hemorrhage clearance time and the number of instances of urokinase treatment were significantly less than those of the control group (P<0.05). The total urokinase dosage of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). With respect to post-surgery complications, in the treatment group, there were three cases of hydrocephalus and one case of intracranial infection. In the control group, there were four cases of hydrocephalus and three cases of intracranial infection. Intraventricular re-hemorrhage was not observed in either group. Intracranial infection was relieved after strengthened anti-infective therapy and continuous drainage. There was a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of complications between the treatment group and the control group (P<0.05). The rate of good prognosis in the treatment group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05), and the inefficiency rate was lower (P<0.05). Conclusions: High-dose urokinase treatment produces a significant therapeutic effect in hypertension ventricular hemorrhage. This treatment can quickly eliminate intraventricular hemorrhage, shorten the ventricular drain tube indwelling time, decrease the occurrence of intracranial infection, and increase the likelihood of a good prognosis.

Abstract:Objective To study the impact of human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) on collateral circulation and blood perfusion in patients with acute cerebral ischemia (ACI) using multi-modality CT methods. Methods In a randomized controlled clinical trial, 75 patients diagnosed with ACI were enrolled and divided into experiment group (treated with HUK)and control group (untreated with HUK). All participants underwent computer technology perfusion (CTP) and computed tomographic angiography (CTA) examination before and fourteenth day after treatment. The CT cerebral perfusion imaging (CTP), CT cerebrovascular imaging (CTA) and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score were analyzed in two groups. The NIHSS score, cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV), mean transit time (MTT), and time to peak (TTP) were compared between the two groups before and after 14 days therapy. Results ① After treatment, The two group showed increased CBF and CBV values and decreased MTT and TTP values. The CBF improvement was significantly better in the HUK-treated group than in the control group (t=2.470,P<0.05).②MTT and TTP were shorter in the HUK-treated group than in the control group (t=2.126, t=2.213, P<0.05).③ CTA maximum intensity projection (MIP) sequence revealed that the number of patients collateral vessels was significantly increased in the HUK-treated group than in the control group ( x2=4.265, P<0.05). ④The NIHSS score improvement was significantly better in the HUK-treated group after 14 days treatment than in the control group (t=4.330, P<0.05). Conclusion Human urinary kallidinogenase can improve blood perfusion and ameliorates neurological deficits. It is a safe and effective drug for treating ACI patients. The multi-modality CT methods are effective measure to assess blood perfusion and collateral circulation in patients with acute cerebral ischemia.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of Urinary Kallidinogenase on acute cerebral infarction. Methods Ninety patients with acute cerebral infarction were randomly divided into two groups:treatment group with Urinary Kallidinogenase and control group.According to Chinese Guidelines for Prevention and Management Cerebrovascular Disease,two groups were treated with basic therapy;treatment group was administrated intravenous injection of Urinary Kallidinogenase 0.15PNAU per day for 14 days.The primary efficacy was evaluated by NIHSS(the National Institutes of Health stroke scale,NIHSS),ADL(Activities of daily living, ADL). Results Acute cerebral infarction patients after treatment by Urinary Kallidinogenase clinical syrnptoms improved than control group,NIHSS(5.6±3.93 vs 7.71±4.01,P=0.004), ADL(67.18±37.05 vs 54.23±30.25,P=0.015). Conclusion Urinary Kallidinogenase can be effectively treated acute cerebral infarction.
Efficacy and Safety of Dl-3-n-Butylphthalide Combined With Human Urinary Kallidinogenase in the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke

Abstract:Objectives: Intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical endovascular thrombectomy are recommended for patients whose stroke onsets are within the first 6 hours; however, patients beyond this time window have very limited options. Dl-3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) and human urinary kallidinogenase (HUK) have shown potential clinical benefits in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. This research aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of NBP combined with HUK in the treatment of ischemic stroke patients. Patients and methods: We reviewed the 215 AIS patients registered in the database of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from April 2019 to October 2020. Among them, 65 patients received NBP sodium chloride injection treatment, 55 patients received HUK treatment, and 95 patients received NBP sodium chloride injection combined with HUK treatment. The recovery of neural function was evaluated by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and the recovery of daily function was evaluated by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). The NIHSS and mRS scores after the 7-day treatment, 6-month independency rate (6-month mRS score ≤1), and related factors were compared among the 3 groups. The safety was monitored by recording adverse events. Results: The NIHSS and mRS scores of 7-day and 6-month treatment in the NBP combined with HUK group were lower than the monotherapy ( P < 0.05). In addition, the NBP combined with HUK treatment achieved an independency rate of 82.1%, whereas NBP and HUK treatments achieved only 53.8% and 63.6%, respectively ( P < 0.001). Binary logistic regression showed that NBP combined with HUK therapy treatment could lead to a 5.28 times higher rate of patients' 6-month independency after AIS occurrence. No serious adverse events occurred in both the combined therapy and monotherapy. Conclusions: Dl-3-n-butylphthalide combined with HUK is safe to treat AIS patients. It can significantly improve the neural function and the 6-month recovery of AIS patients.
