Uncovering ecotoxicity of nanomaterial in environment treatment

Abstract:In recent years, nanotechnology has been widely used in energy, biomedicine, information technology, environmental pollution control and so on, and has achieved remarkable results. However, a large number of nano-materials (NMs) remain in the atmosphere, water and soil environment, which brings a series of negative effects to the ecological environment and seriously endangers human health. At present, the toxicity of NMs has been paid more and more attention, and its toxic mechanism and factors affecting toxicity have become the focus of research. In this paper, the application, environmental risk and toxicity of NMs are briefly introduced, the influencing factors of toxicity of NMs and their toxicological research methods and techniques are summarized, and mechanism of NMs toxicity. These NMs mainly pass through an energy-dependent endocytic pathway, including phagocytosis, pinocytosis, caveolin-dependent or clathrin-mediated endocytosis, etc. Light, temperature, pH will affect the NMs properties in the environmental. In the future study, the joint action mechanism of many kinds of NMs still needs to be studied. The toxicological research of NMs should be studied combining with the field of environment and biomedicine, which means it should be from the exposure of NMs to the behavior of the environment and further to the intake of the body.
