Abstract:We give upper and lower bounds for the spectral radius of a nonnegative matrix by using its average 2-row sums, and characterize the equality cases if the matrix is irreducible. We also apply these bounds to various nonnegative matrices associated with a graph, including the adjacency matrix, the signless Laplacian matrix, the distance matrix, the distance signless Laplacian matrix, and the reciprocal distance matrix.

Abstract:Let M=(mij) be a nonnegative irreducible n×n matrix with diagonal entries 0. The largest eigenvalue of M is called the spectral radius of the matrix M, denoted by ρ(M). In this paper, we give two sharp upper bounds of the spectral radius of matrix M. As corollaries, we give two sharp upper bounds of the distance matrix of a graph.

Abstract:In this paper, we present several sharper upper bounds for the M-spectral radius and Z-spectral radius based on the eigenvalues of some unfolding matrices of nonnegative tensors. Meanwhile, we show that these bounds could be tight for some special tensors. For a general nonnegative tensor which can be transformed into a matrix, we prove the maximal singular value of this matrix is an upper bound of its Z-eigenvalues. Some examples are provided to show these proposed bounds greatly improve some existing ones.

Abstract:The spectral radius ρ(A) is the maximum absolute value of the eigenvalues of a matrix A. In this paper, we establish some relationship between the spectral radius of a symmetric matrix and its principal submatrices, i.e., if A is partitioned as a 2×2 block matrix A=(0A12A21A22), then ρ(A)2≤ρ22+θ⁎, where θ⁎ is the largest real root of the equation μ2=(x−ν)2(ρ22+x) and ρ2=ρ(A22), μ=ρ(A12A22A21), ν=ρ(A12A21). Furthermore, the results are used to obtain several upper bounds of the spectral radius of graphs, which strengthen or improve some known results.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the estimation for the spectral radius of a nonneg- ative and irreducible n-by-n matrix A.We present a new method that can easily and tightly get the two-sided bounds for the spectral radius of A only by simply computing the sums for each row of A and A~T.Several numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of our method.

Abstract:The energy of a digraph D is defined as E (D) = Sigma(n)(i=1) vertical bar Re (z(i))vertical bar, where z(1), ... , z(n) are the (possibly complex) eigenvalues of D. In this paper, we obtain an improved lower bound on the spectral radius of D. Considering this result, we present an upper bound on the energy of D. We also show that our results generalize and improve some known results for graphs and digraphs.

Abstract:Let Mn(R) be the linear space of all n×n matrices over the real field R. For any A∈Mn(R), let ρ(A) and ‖A‖∞ denote the spectral radius and the infinity norm of A, respectively. By introducing a class of transformations φa on Mn(R), we show that, for any A∈Mn(R), ρ(A)<‖A‖∞ if φ‖A‖∞n(A)=0. If A∈Mn(R) is nonnegative, we prove that ρ(A)<‖A‖∞ if and only if φ‖A‖∞n(A)=0, and ρ(A)=‖A‖∞ if and only if the transformation φ‖A‖∞ preserves the spectral radius and the infinity norm of A. As an application, we investigate a class of linear discrete dynamic systems in the form of X(k+1)=AX(k). The asymptotical stability of the zero solution of the system is established by a simple algebraic method.

Abstract:The graph spectra analyze the structure of the graph using eigenspectra. The spectral graph theory deals with the investigation of graphs in terms of the eigenspectrum. In this paper, the sequence of lower bounds for the spectral radius of digraph D having at least one doubly adjacent vertex in terms of indegree is proposed. Particularly, it is exhibited that ρ(D)≥αj=∑p=1m(χj+1(p))2∑p=1m(χj(p))2, such that equality is attained iff D=G↔+ {DE∉ Cycle}, where each component of associated graph is a k-regular or (k1,k2) semiregular bipartite. By utilizing the sequence of lower bounds of the spectral radius of D, the sequence of upper bounds of energy of D, where the sequence decreases when eU≤αj and increases when eU>αj, are also proposed. All of the obtained inequalities are elaborated using examples. We also discuss the monotonicity of these sequences.

Furthermore, we also characterize some extreme graphs which attain these upper bounds. These results theoretically improve and generalize some known results.

Abstract:Let G = (V(G), E (G)) be a digraph without loops and multiarcs, where V(G) = {v(1), v(2), ..., v(n)} and E(G) are the vertex set and the arc set of G, respectively. Let d(i)(+) be the outdegree of the vertex v(i). Let A(G) be the adjacency matrix of G and D(G) = diag(d(1)(+), d(2)(+), ..., d(n)(+)) be the diagonal matrix with outdegrees of the vertices of G. Then we call Q(G) = D(G)+A(G) the signless Laplacian matrix of G. The spectral radius of Q(G) is called the signless Laplacian spectral radius of G, denoted by q(G). In this paper, some upper bounds for q(G) are obtained. Furthermore, some upper bounds on q(G) involving outdegrees and the average 2-outdegrees of the vertices of G are also derived.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish four Brauer-type upper bounds and a lower bound for Z-spectral radius of weakly symmetric nonnegative tensors without irreducible assumption. These bounds are shown to be sharper than the existing bounds via running examples. As an application, an upper bound on the largest Z-eigenvalues of the adjacency tensors for uniform hypergraphs is provided.

Abstract:The signless Laplacian matrix graph is the sum of its degree diagonal and adjacency matrices. In this paper, we present a sharp upper bound for the spectral radius of the adjacency matrix of a graph. Abstract:The spectral radius (or the signless Laplacian spectral radius) of a general hypergraph is the maximum modulus of the eigenvalues of its adjacency (or its signless Laplacian) tensor. In this paper, we firstly obtain a lower bound of the spectral radius (or the signless Laplacian spectral radius) of general hypergraphs in terms of clique number. Moreover, we present a relation between a homogeneous polynomial and the clique number of general hypergraphs. As an application, we finally obtain an upper bound of the spectral radius of general hypergraphs in terms of clique number.
