Dualities in Comparison Theorems and Bundle-Valued Generalized Harmonic Forms on Noncompact Manifolds

Abstract:We observe, utilize dualities in differential equations and differential inequalities, dualities between comparison theorems in differential equations, and obtain dualities in "swapping" comparison theorems in differential equations. These dualities generate comparison theorems on differential equations of mixed types I and II and lead to comparison theorems in Riemannian geometry with analytic, geometric, P.D.E.'s and physical applications. In particular, we prove Hessian comparison theorems and Laplacian comparison theorem under varied radial Ricci curvature or radial curvature assumptions, generalizing and extending the work of Han-Li-Ren-Wei, and Wei. We also extend the notion of function or differential form growth to bundle-valued differential form growth of various types and discuss their interrelationship. These provide tools in extending the notion, integrability and decomposition of generalized harmonic forms to those of bundle-valued generalized harmonic forms, introducing Condition W for bundle-valued differential forms, and proving duality theorem and unity theorem, generalizing the work of Andreotti and Vesentini, and Wei. We then apply Hessian and Laplacian comparison theorems to obtain comparison theorems in mean curvature, generalized sharp Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities, embedding theorem for weighted Sobolev spaces, geometric differential-integral inequalities, generalized sharp Hardy type inequalities on Riemannian manifolds, monotonicity formulas and vanishing theorems for differential forms of degree $k$ with values in vector bundles, such as $F$-Yang Mills fields (when $F$ is the identity map, they are Yang-Mills fields), generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld fields on manifolds, Liouville type theorems for $F$-harmonic maps, and Dirichlet problems on starlike domains for vector bundle valued differential $1$-forms and $F$-harminic maps, etc.

Abstract:Let M be an n(>2)-dimensional closed orientable submanifold in an (n+p)-dimensional space form ℝ^n+p(c). We obtain an optimal upper bound for the second eigenvalue of a class of elliptic operators on M defined by L_Tf=-div(T∇ f), where T is a general symmetric, positive definite and divergence-free (1,1)-tensor on M. The upper bound is given in terms of an integration involving tr T and |H_T|^2, where tr T is the trace of the tensor T and H_T=∑_i=1^nA(Te_i,e_i) is a normal vector field associated with T and the second fundamental form A of M. Furthermore, we give the sufficient and necessary conditions when the upper bound is attained. Our main theorem can be viewed as an extension of the famous `Reilly inequality'. The operator L_T can be regarded as a natural generalization of the well-known operator L_r which is the linearized operator of the first variation of the (r+1)-th mean curvature for hypersurfaces in a space form. As applications of our main theorem, we generalize the results of Grosjean ([16]) and Li-Wang ([19]) for hypersurfaces to higher codimension case.

Abstract:Let $M$ be an $m (\ge2)$-dimensional closed orientable submanifold in an $n$-dimensional complete simply-connected Riemannian manifold $N$, where the sectional curvature of $N$ is bounded above by $\delta$. When $\delta<0$, inspired by Niu-Xu (arXiv:2106.01912), we give new upper bounds for the first nonzero eigenvalues of the $p$-Laplacian and the $L_T$ operator, respectively. These generalize Niu-Xu's work for the Laplacian (arXiv:2106.01912) and improve the estimates due to Chen (Nonlinear Anal.,196, 111833, 2020) for the $p$-Laplacian and Grosjean (Hokkaido Math. J., 33(2) , 319-339, 2004) for the $L_T$ operator, respectively. We also obtain several Reilly-type inequalities for the weighted manifolds and some boundary value problems.

Abstract:For a polarized toric variety (X,L) of dimension n less than 5, we give a lower bound of the Delta-genus by using the vanishing number of adjoint bundle of a multiple of L. We show that for a polarized toric variety of dimension n with non-vanishing adjoint bundle, the Delta-genus is more than or equal to n-1.

Abstract:In this paper, we establishweighted higher order exponential type inequalities in the geodesic space (X, d, mu) by proposing an abstract higher order Poincare inequality. These are also new in the non-weighted case. As applications, we obtain a weighted Trudinger's theorem in the geodesic setting and weighted higher order exponential type estimates for functions in Folland-Stein type Sobolev spaces defined on stratified Lie groups. A higher order exponential type inequality in a connected homogeneous space is also given.

Abstract:In this paper we establish a class of Hardy inequalities related to the gen- eralized Baouendi-Grushin vector fields from another view. Our technique is based on an extension of an elementary integral inequality in the Euclidean space by the generalized di- vergence theorem, and then the choice of suitable vector fields. The best constant is also discussed. Our results contain the well known Hardy inequalities for the class of vector fields. As immediate consequences, we discuss some properties for p-degenerate subelliptic opera- tor and characterize a positive solutions of the nonlinear operator constructed by generalized Baouendi-Grnshin vector fields.

Abstract:We classify and construct $SL(n,\mathbb{R})$-intertwining differential operators $\mathcal{D}$ from a line bundle to a vector bundle over the real projective space $\mathbb{RP}^{n-1}$ by the F-method. This generalizes a classical result of Bol for $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$. Further, we classify the $K$-type formulas for the kernel $\text{Ker}(\mathcal{D})$ and image $\text{Im}(\mathcal{D})$ of $\mathcal{D}$. The standardness of the homomorphisms $\varphi$ corresponding to the differential operators $\mathcal{D}$ between generalized Verma modules are also discussed.

Abstract:Motivated by Kollár-Matsusaka's Riemann-Roch type inequalities, applying effective very ampleness of adjoint bundles on Fujita conjecture and log-concavity given by Khovanskii-Teissier inequalities, we show that for any partition $\lambda$ of the positive integer $d$ there exists a universal bivariate polynomial $Q_\lambda(x, y)$ which has deg $Q \leq d$ and whose coefficients depend only on $n$, such that for any projective manifold $X$ of dimension $n$ and any ample line bundle $L$ on $X$, \begin{equation*} \left|c_\lambda(X)\cdot L^{n -d}\right|\leq \frac{Q_{\lambda}(L^{n}, K_X \cdot L^{n -1} )}{(L^{n})^{d-1}}, \end{equation*} where $K_X$ is the canonical bundle of $X$ and $c_\lambda(X)$ is the monomial Chern class given by the partition $\lambda$. As a special case, when $K_X$ or $-K_X$ is ample, this implies that there exists a constant $c_n$ depending only on $n$ such that for any monomial Chern classes of top degree, the Chern number ratios \begin{equation*} \left|\frac{c_\lambda(X)}{c_1 (X) ^{n}}\right|\leq c_n, \end{equation*} which recovers a recent result of Du-Sun. The main result also yields an asymptotic version of the sharper Riemann-Roch type inequality. Abstract:In this paper, we present a unified method for deriving differential Harnack inequalities for positive solutions of the semilinear parabolic equation \begin{equation*} \partial_t u=\Delta_V u+H(u) \end{equation*} on complete Riemannian manifolds with Bakry-Émery curvature bounded below. This method transforms the problem of deriving differential Harnack inequalities into solving a related ODE system. As an application of this method, we obtain new and improved estimates for logarithmic-type equations and Yamabe-type equations. Moreover, under the non-negative Bakry-Émery curvature condition, we obtain complete sharp estimates for these equations. As a natural consequence of these results, we also establish sharp Harnack inequalities and Liouville-type theorems for these equations.

Abstract:We prove a new general Poincaré-type inequality for differential forms on compact Riemannian manifolds with nonempty boundary. When the boundary is isometrically immersed in Euclidean space, we derive a new inequality involving mean and scalar curvatures of the boundary only and characterize its limiting case in codimension one. A new Ros-type inequality for differential forms is also derived assuming the existence of a nonzero parallel form on the manifold.

Abstract:Over a smooth projective toric variety we study toric sheaves, that is, reflexive sheaves equivariant with respect to the acting torus, from a polyhedral point of view. One application is the explicit construction of the torus invariant universal extension of two nef line bundles via polyhedral inclusion/exclusion sequences. Second, we link the cohomology of toric sheaves to the cohomology of certain constructible sheaves explicitly built out of the associated polyhedra. For the latter we define a concrete double complex and a spectral sequence which computes the cohomology of toric sheaves from the reduced cohomology of polyhedral subsets living in the realification of the character lattice of the toric variety.
