Abstract:Objectives: Research almost always culminates in the communication of findings. Despite the necessity of grant and manuscript writing throughout academic careers, scientific trainees often receive little guided practice in written communication. To fill this gap, we designed, implemented, and evaluated a voluntary writing initiative for biomedical students at a research-intensive (R1) university in the midwestern United States called Writing Initiative in Neuroscience (WIN). Method: WIN consisted of didactic and workshop components. The didactic component included discussions with topic-specific experts on writing grants and manuscripts for the public and for non-academic scientific careers. The workshop component consisted of small group-based peer review of participant writing samples. Student self-enrollment consistently filled all available seats over three separate cohorts, including those formed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Student self-assessments were implemented to determine improvements quantitatively and qualitatively in writing and peer-review across 3 years of WIN programming. Results: Student self-assessment of writing skills before and after programming revealed improved scientific writing competency with medium or large effect sizes. Qualitative self-assessments indicated perceived improvements in writing competency and confidence. Collectively, students who participated in WIN improved their writing and communication skills and gained experience in providing and receiving feedback. Conclusions: Ultimately, peer-led writing initiatives, such as WIN, may enhance scholarly training and lay a foundation for future trainee writing success across scientific disciplines. Implications for Theory or Practice: These results support the utility of a student-centered writing workshop for biomedical students. Our study combined aspects of multiple existing resources, including peer feedback, interdisciplinary student backgrounds, and professional editing guidance. Together, these features formed a flexible and practical writing workshop, which can be used as a template for biomedical training programs.

Abstract:Scientific knowledge has expanded dramatically in the 21st century. Yet, even in science where there is large consensus among the studies-evolution by natural selection, for example, or the human basis of accelerated climate change-the public and policymakers are not always in agreement with the science. To bridge this gap, scientists and educators need to connect and engage with diverse audiences with varying levels of science literacy. Communication scholars have identified several effective tactics to communicate effectively with non-specialist audiences. However, our sometimes-siloed thinking in science and higher education discourages sharing this knowledge across disciplinary lines. Furthermore, many training programs focus on educating about which communication strategies work, but they fail to provide participants with the opportunity to develop the skills required to listen effectively and respond in an engaging way. To that end, we created the Science Communication Boot Camp (SCBC) with support from an American Association for Anatomy innovations grant. The 3-day program engaged and immersed participants in training designed to develop audience-centered communication, distill scientific concepts into meaningful narratives, and connect effectively with the public, collaborators, and policymakers. Based on participant surveys at three timepoints (preworkshop, postworkshop, and 2-year follow-up), the SCBC was effective in helping participants to increase their communication skills and willingness to engage with the public and other non-specialist audiences.
Implementation of the REFLECT Communication Curriculum for Clinical Oncology Graduate Medical Education

Abstract:Background: Communication and interpersonal skills are essential medical components of oncology patient care. Patients and families rely on physicians for treatment, expertise, guidance, hope, meaning, and compassion throughout a life-threatening illness. A provider's inability to empathize with patients is linked to physician-related fatigue and burnout. Because oncology training programs focus on teaching evidence-based medicine and clinical acumen, little time may be dedicated to professional development and acquisition of interactive skills. Traditional communication courses typically include two components: formal, knowledge-based learning skills, which are gained from didactic lectures, and role-playing, which usually occurs in small groups. We report the implementation of a novel longitudinal communication curriculum for trainees in Oncology. Materials and Methods: At a single-center institution, an innovative communication curriculum titled "REFLECT" ( R espect, E mpathy, F acilitate Effective Communication, Listen, E licit Information, C ompassion, and T each Others) was implemented for radiation oncology residents and medical oncology fellows to improve and refine physician/patient interactions. All oncology specialty residents and fellows were eligible to participate in this communication curriculum. The curriculum emphasized a reflective process to guide trainees through challenging scenarios. Results: Since October 2018, this comprehensive course consisted of quarterly (four hour) workshops comprising assigned reading, knowledge assessments, didactic lectures, expert guest lecturers, standardized patient simulations, role-playing, patient/expert panels, coaching, reflective writing, and debriefing/feedback sessions. The curriculum provided longitudinal communication training integrated with the learners' daily physician/patient encounters rather than occasional isolated experiences. Fifteen workshops have been completed. Each focused on navigating challenging situations with patients, loved ones, or colleagues. Conclusions: Future directions of the curriculum will entail improving the communication skills of oncology trainees and gathering communication improvement data to assess the program's success formally.

Abstract:Objective: The All of Us Evenings with Genetics (EwG) Research Program at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), funded to engage research scholars to work with the All of Us data, developed a training curriculum for the Researcher Workbench, the platform to access and analyze All of Us data. All of Us EwG developed the curriculum so that it could teach scholars regardless of their skills and background in programming languages and cloud computing. All of Us EwG delivered this curriculum at the first annual All of Us EwG Faculty Summit in May 2022. The curriculum was evaluated both during and after the Faculty Summit so that it could be improved for future training. Materials and methods: Surveys were administered to assess scholars' familiarity with the programming languages and computational tools required to use the Researcher Workbench. The curriculum was developed using backward design and was informed by the survey results, a review of available resources for training users on the Researcher Workbench, and All of Us EwG members' collective experience training students. The curriculum was evaluated using feedback surveys during the Faculty Summit as well as virtual meetings and emails following the Faculty Summit. Results: The evaluation results demonstrated the success of the curriculum and identified areas for improvement. Discussion and conclusion: The curriculum has been adapted and improved in response to evaluations and in response to changes to the All of Us data and infrastructure to train more researchers through this program and other scholarly programs.

Abstract:Instruction and guidance in soft skills, such as writing and speaking, are important for successful training of the future chemical workforce. Relatedly, accessible knowledge transfer on the “hidden curriculum” is critical for student successthis is especially important for first generation college students, international students, and others who may be less likely to gain this information through informal means. Included in this “hidden curriculum” are details on how to craft successful cover letters, statements, and other application materials tailored to specific job or award opportunities. Here, a two-day workshop for research-active chemistry students is described. The workshop aimed to help address these interrelated needs as students progress through their training program and toward their careers. The workshop integrated active learning, peer review, outside speakers and resources, and extensive discussion, in addition to assigned readings and facilitator presentations. The workshop was evaluated based on voluntary, anonymous pre-workshop and post-workshop surveys. Gains in student self-reported confidence and knowledge of specific key concepts were identified, and the general free-form feedback was quite positive. This report provides an overview of the workshop program and materials, a discussion of the evaluation outcomes, and ideas for future improvements and extensions.

Abstract:The United States government makes a substantial investment in biomedical training programs each year. However, for most trainees, these opportunities do not translate into career progression in academic research pathways. Only about one-fifth of postdoctoral fellows eventually secure a tenure-track faculty position, and even among these candidates, attrition is high. Although a number of factors govern career choices and career longevity, the transition from trainee to faculty is a challenging process and requires knowledge and skills that are not necessarily developed during a traditional university experience. Many postdoctoral fellows receive adequate training in research skills and scientific communication, but new faculty report not being sufficiently prepared for the job search process and for starting their labs. To address this critical training gap, the ITERT core (Interdisciplinary Translational Education and Research Training) and the Office of Postdoctoral Fellows at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center implemented a structured course for both postdoctoral fellows and senior PhD students to provide formalized training for successfully navigating academic positions in biomedical research. Here we report on the pilot Navigating Academic Careers course conducted in 2021–2022 for 30 PhD students and postdocs. The nine-module course was conducted over 13 weeks in 25.5 h instructional sessions. The key educational objectives included 1) navigating the job application and the interview/negotiation process, 2) hiring, leading, and mentoring lab personnel and program support staff, 3) project administration and financial stewardship, 4) managing time and work-life balance and 5) developing collaborations, branding, personalized niche, and networking. Survey-based analysis at the time of the course was used to capture the participants' assessment of the course content, organization, and delivery, with a follow-up survey conducted approximately 2 years post-course (2024) to evaluate longer-term impacts of the training. Initial in-course assessment revealed that 89.9% of respondents found the scope and instructional content appropriate, and 91.1% found the course relevant and applicable to their career needs. Longer-term post-course evaluation indicated that 80% of respondents applied the learnings of the course, that 80% reported feeling more confident in navigating an academic job search, and that 66.6% continued to report agreement with the course preparing them for their current role/ongoing job search, with 46.7% already securing jobs in academic research, including as independent faculty. The outcomes of this pilot course suggest that integrating this into the broader postdoctoral training curriculum can enhance both the transition and early-career success of talented scientists-in-training into working professionals in biomedical careers, as faculty and science-trained staff.

Preparing Hematology/Oncology Fellows for Success: Implementing an Annual Career Development and Research Retreat

Abstract:Multiple factors, including job satisfaction, personality traits, and training experiences, influence the career trajectory of hematology/oncology fellows. In an effort to expose hematology/oncology fellows to (1) the various careers in oncology, (2) a diverse group of speakers for future mentorship, and (3) research opportunities, and grant writing experience, we established an annual career development and research retreat. During the retreat, we engaged speakers who covered a range of career trajectories, including academic, private practice, industry, government, and administrative paths. We introduced clinicians and researchers with a track record of providing top-notch mentorship to fellows with aligning interests and detailed research opportunities and grant writing. The sessions were led by senior fellows, and we adopted an in-person and virtual hybrid model to allow speakers from various institutions to participate. Feedback from participants, as gathered through surveys, indicated positive responses: all respondents reported that this retreat was "extremely" or "very helpful," and a majority expressed their intent to pursue academic careers. The curriculum and structure of this retreat may help to inform the development of fellowship career development and research retreats at other institutions.
Gynecologic Pathology Journal Club: A 2-year, Worldwide Virtual Learning Experience With a Focus on Mentorship and Inclusion

Abstract:Journal clubs (JCs) are a common format used in teaching institutions to promote trainee engagement and develop skills in seeking out evidence-based medicine and critically evaluating literature. Digital technology has made JC accessible to worldwide audiences, which allows for increased inclusion of globally diverse presenters and attendees. Herein we describe the experience of the first 2 years of a virtual gynecologic pathology JC designed with the goal of providing mentorship and increasing inclusivity. JC began in a virtual format in April 2020 in response to the need for remote learning during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Each JC had 1 moderator, lasted 1 hour, featured up to 3 trainees/early-career pathologists, and covered articles on gynecologic surgical pathology/cytopathology. Trainees were recruited through direct contact with moderators and advertising through social media (eg, Twitter). A template was used for all presentations, and before presenting, live practice sessions were conducted with the moderator providing constructive feedback and evaluations were provided to presenters and attendees for feedback. Recordings of the meetings were made publicly available after the event through YouTube, a society website, and emails to registrants. Fifty-nine presenters participated, covering 71 articles. Most were trainees (53/59; 89%) from North America (33/59; 56%), with additional presenters from Asia (14/59; 24%), Australia/Oceania (5/59; 8%), Africa (4/59; 7%), and Europe (3/59; 5%). An average of 20 hours were spent per month by moderators on the selection of papers, meeting preparation, and provision of mentorship/feedback. Live events had a total of 827 attendees, and 16,138 interactions with the recordings were noted. Among those who self-identified on provided surveys, the attendees were most commonly from Europe (107/290; 37%) and were overwhelmingly practicing pathologists (275/341; 81%). The experience, including mentorship, format, and content, was positively reviewed by attendees and presenters. Virtual JC is an inclusive educational opportunity to engage trainees and early-career pathologists from around the world. The format allowed for the JC to be widely viewed by attendees from multiple countries, most being practicing pathologists. Based on feedback received, virtual JC appears to expand the medical knowledge of the attendees and empower presenters to develop their expertise and communication skills.

An innovative approach to comprehensive communication skills training for residents: A resident-led communication curriculum

Abstract:Innovations to enhance residency training in interpersonal and communication skills are needed and a resident-led strategy has not been well-described. In this study, we explored a resident-led comprehensive communication skills curriculum for internal medicine residents. Residents and faculty prepared the curriculum as part of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Back to Bedside Project and with "The language of caring guide for physicians." Employing active learning techniques, three residents led 43 internal medicine residents in seven 1 h sessions from 2019 to 2020. Using a 35-question survey, we assessed pre and post self-reported competence in: mindful practice, collaboration and teamwork, effective openings and closing, communicating with empathy, effective explanations, engaging patients and families as partners, and hard conversations. A Wilcoxon signed rank test was employed to explore differences in median scores after matching each person's pretest and posttest score. The median score for aggregate communication and the scores for all seven competencies assessed improved from pre to post (p < 0.05). This indicates that residents reported higher incidences of performing patient-centered communication skills after the curriculum compared to before. Using a five-point Likert scale, 100% of participants agreed the program improved their communication skills and improved confidence in bedside patient-centered communications. A resident-led comprehensive communication skills curriculum for internal medicine residents was implemented showing improvement in skills over the course of the curriculum. The curriculum was well-accepted by post-survey evaluation and was feasible with motivated resident-leaders, use of an existing guide to communication, and reserved didactic time to implement the program.
Innovations in Undergraduate Research Training Through Multisite Collaborative Programming: American Heart Association Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Syndicate

Abstract:Background To support diversity in biomedical science, the American Heart Association launched the Supporting Undergraduate Research Experiences for undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds to provide mentorship and high-level exposure at 5 leading medical institutions. Here we describe the initial formation of the partnership and the alteration made in response to the program to accommodate COVID-19 safety precautions. Methods and Results We outline how programming shifted from local, in-person programming in the summer of 2019 to a collaborative, mainly virtual curriculum in 2020 using students' self-reported before and after surveys from both 2019 (n=33) and 2020 (n=42). Students from both in-person (2019) and virtual programs (2020) self-reported significant gains in scientific proficiency. A qualitative-directed content analysis of student open-response questions was performed. Students reported extensive benefits from the 2020 virtual training, including Personal Gains, Research Skills, Thinking and Working Like a Scientist, and Attitudes and Behaviors. Notedly, we observed increases in the Attitudes and Behaviors category. We outline the pros and cons of in-person and virtual programming and make recommendations moving forward in a postpandemic world with hybrid work and learning systems. Conclusions Our effort informs the development of future undergraduate research training programs, significantly maximizing a hybrid training modality. The American Heart Association Supporting Undergraduate Research Experiences serves as a model for building multi-institutional partnerships and providing research experiences that overcome institutional barriers and support students' interests, commitment, and ability to persist in science, technology, engineering, and math fields.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Fellowship is the capstone of academic training and serves as preparation for an academic career. Fellows are expected to educate medical students and residents during and long after fellowship. However, little time is typically spent teaching fellows to become effective educators. We investigate a formal curriculum addressing teaching skills among fellows in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (OHNS).STUDY DESIGN: E-mail survey.METHODS: We developed and implemented an educational program called Teach the Teacher to build skills as educators for fellows in OHNS. We conducted a survey of fellows from 2014 to 2017 in OHNS who participated in the course. The survey evaluated demographics, teaching experiences, and teaching limitations structured as yes/no and Likert-style questions (1 = strongly disagree, 5 = strongly agree).RESULTS: Thirty fellows were surveyed with a response rate was 80%. Fellowship was rated highly as an experience that will make fellows a better academic educator (mean ± standard deviation: 4.54 ± 0.64). The most important components of teaching during fellowship were role modeling (4.67 ± 0.62), followed by teaching psychomotor skills in the operating room (4.29 ± 0.89), diagnostic reasoning (4.25 ± 0.66), and evidence-based medicine (4.25 ± 0.83). The Teach the Teacher course specifically was rated as a helpful experience (4.00 ± 0.90). The primary limitations to developing teaching skills during fellowship identified were lack of time, patient safety, and inexperience with hospital culture.CONCLUSIONS: Fellowship is a key time to improve skills as academic educators. Abstract:Hispanic/Latinos, Black/African Americans, Asians, American Indian or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders, or individuals who report more than one race are underrepresented in the biomedical workforce. In order to combat this disparity, the Summer Cancer Research Institute (SCRI) was developed to train underrepresented minority (URM) students in cancer research. This study explored the feasibility and impact of reflective practices on trainees' experience and learning outcomes within the SCRI training program. Reflective practice has been shown to increase metacognition, competency, feelings of belonging, and the sense of a scientific identity, all of which are crucial skills for URM trainees. In this study, we developed and implemented a robust toolkit to support reflective practice, which includes (1) four reflective journal entries, (2) four bi-weekly check-in discussion groups, (3) two social media posts, (4) two reflective practice seminars and (5) pre- and post-program surveys. The toolkit was utilized to actively engage trainees in reflective practices throughout their participation in the summer training program. The goals were to (1) enhance the trainees' ability to effectively use reflective practice for their learning, and (2) support and improve their overall learning experience and outcomes in the summer training program. Grounded theory was used to analyze the data collected to examine how the completion of assignments included in the toolkit impacted the overall learning experience of trainees. This involved assessing the trainees' ability to critically reflect on their assumptions and biases, expectations, previous and current experiences, perceived challenges, and personal growth throughout the program, as well as their visions for future education and professional careers. The findings from this study inform our understanding of how reflective practice toolkits can contribute to positive outcomes and resilience among individuals engaged in a cancer research training program. In this presentation, we plan to discuss the importance of reflective practice in cancer disparity research education and the specific mechanisms through which it improved the trainees' learning experiences and outcomes. Scientific Outreach: Toward Effective Public Engagement with Biological Science

Abstract:Most scientists agree that interacting with the public is a worthwhile endeavor, but participation in science outreach remains fairly low among biologists. Furthermore, current practices in science outreach remain largely based on ineffective communication models that may undermine public trust and interest. I argue that, in trying to improve both participation rates and the effectiveness of science outreach, we must take a more scientific approach, and we must practice outreach with the same rigor as the science that we share with the public. Here, I describe common misconceptions that can undermine the value of science communication with the public at many scales. I then describe an evidence-based, iterative, evaluative framework for biologists at all career stages to pursue public engagement in the biological sciences. Lessons learnt from a scientific peer-review training programme designed to support research capacity and professional development in a global community

Abstract:High-quality peer-reviewer training open to researchers across the globe has the potential to improve the published literature, however, this type of training is not widely available. In this paper, we describe an online peer-reviewer training programme, highlight its effectiveness in building peer review and writing skills, and discuss challenges and lessons learnt. This training programme, open to researchers across the globe, acquaints participants with challenges to and inequities in publishing and educates them about writing effective peer reviews. A focal point is how to provide specific and respectful feedback to help authors get accepted for peer review at an academic journal. Forty-nine participants from or residing in six continents completed the training. All programme evaluation respondents agreed that the orientation helped them gain a better understanding of their role as a peer reviewer at Pre-Publication Support Service. Most agreed that the training was helpful in improving their peer-review skills, and that the training was helpful in improving their writing skills. Participants wanted more networking and collaboration opportunities with other peer reviewers, inclusion of a qualitatively researched example paper and improved communication about the required time commitment. Our online programme with multiple time options was geographically inclusive but internet connectivity was challenging for some participants. Peer-reviewer training programmes can help researchers build their peer review and writing skills and enhance participants' understanding of disparities in publishing. Integrating a geographically diverse group of researchers has the potential to enrich the discussions and learning in such a programme.
Training "Pivots" from the Pandemic: Lessons Learned Transitioning from In-Person to Virtual Synchronous Training in the Clinical Scholars Leadership Program

Abstract:Introduction: Since the inception of distance-based teaching modalities, a debate has ensued over the quality of online versus in-person instruction. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of teaching environments-including leadership development trainings for post-graduate learners-have been thrust into exploring the virtual learning environment more thoroughly. One three-year leadership development program for interdisciplinary healthcare professionals transitioned three simultaneous leadership intensives from in-person to online in the spring of 2020. Methods: Documented changes in overall training length, session length, and session format are described. Further, evaluative data were collected from participants at both retreats via post-session surveys. Ninety-three participants attended the 2019 retreat, and 92 participants attended the 2020 virtual retreat. Quantitative data of three rating questions per session are reported: 1) overall session satisfaction, 2) participants' reported knowledge gain, and 3) participants' reported ability gain. Qualitative data were obtained via two open-ended feedback questions per session. Results: In comparing pre/post scores for knowledge and ability, participants had meaningful (and in some cases higher) self-reported gains in knowledge and ability measures in the online environment, as compared to the in-person environment. Participants reported statistically significant gains in all sessions for both knowledge and ability. Qualitative data of participant feedback identified a number of positive themes similar across the in-person and virtual settings. Negative or constructive feedback of the virtual setting included time constraint issues (eg too much content in one session, a desire for more sessions overall), technical difficulties, and the loss of social connection and networking with fellow participants as compared to in-person trainings. Discussion: While meaningful shifts in knowledge and ability ratings indicate that the transition to successful online learning is possible, several disadvantages remain. The preparation time for both faculty and participants was considerable, there is a need to reduce overall content in each session due to time restraints, and participants indicated feeling the loss of one-on-one connections with their peers in the training. Lessons learned of transitioning leadership training from in-person to an online experience are highlighted.
Empowering medical students through collaborative writing sessions

Abstract:Background: Scientific writing and critical appraisal of the literature are fundamental skills for future physicians. However, these skills have been inconsistently prioritised across medical curricula, leaving medical trainees to seek these skills through continuing education courses. Approach: We conducted a series of complementary collaborative writing sessions (introductory workshop with 3-month practical sessions) with direct supervision to medical trainees (medical students and recent medical graduates) in the Dominican Republic between 2017 and 2020. We also examined medical trainees' perceptions of these collaborative writing sessions, as a mechanism to advance technical writing and critical analysis skills for their professional training and personal growth. Evaluation: Participants described the perceived enabling factors of the collaborative writing sessions that led to their publications as: (1) detailed agenda; (2) direct mentorship; (3) effective teamwork; (4) personal investment and dedication; and (5) future vision. Implications: These collaborative writing sessions, consisting of a viable agenda and timeline, direct mentorship with timely feedback, and team dynamics, are recognised as an innovative model for medical trainees in the Dominican Republic. This academic model and approach can be adapted to meet the specific needs of health professional students across the globe. By mastering these fundamental written communication skills, medical trainees can contribute to research and policy development, lead health education initiatives, advocate for best clinical practices in patient care, and mentor the next generation of trainees.
Development of a Clinical Trial Methodology and Appraisal Curriculum for Hematology Fellows

Abstract:Background: The past few decades have seen dramatic clinical advances in benign and malignant hematology. From genomically-targeted diagnostics and therapeutics to novel cellular and immune-based therapies, scientific concepts move to investigational products with astonishing speed. In parallel, clinical trials have become more complex, reflecting both the increasing complexity of the clinical landscape as well as improvements in trial design and standards. To effectively practice in this environment, hematology fellows need to develop a functional understanding of clinical trial methodology and appraisal. However, whereas there are many educational materials focused on content knowledge of hematology topics, there is a paucity of formal resources for better understanding trial methodology. We report the development of a longitudinal, multimodal clinical trial methodology curriculum for hematology fellows grounded in Self-Determination Theory (SDT). Methods: We developed a longitudinal clinical trial methodology curriculum for hematology fellows. The multimodal curriculum consists of both interactive didactic sessions as well as longitudinal integration of methodology teaching into the existing fellow-led journal club. Within the framework of SDT, the curriculum is designed to move fellows from stages of extrinsic motivation to understand and implement critical appraisal (e.g., avoidance of shame) to intrinsic motivation, i.e., integrating critical appraisal into one's professional identity and practice (Th.J. ten Cate et al., Medical Teacher 2011) Conceptually, this is effected by providing adequate content knowledge, a safe space to practice and explore difficult concepts, and serial reinforcement of both the cognitive and social nature of critical appraisal through fellow-led journal club. Progress will be assessed through the first 3 stages of the Kirkpatrick model: reaction, learning, behavior. Results: The concept, teaching modalities, assessment schema and theoretical underpinnings were developed through the ASH MEI program over the 2022-2023 academic year. Iterative review of the course content and modalities occurred through both ASH MEI small group meetings throughout the year, as well as with the directors of the UW Madison Hematology/Oncology fellowship program. Three of the didactics focus on content knowledge, starting with general methodology principles (e.g., validity) before focusing on the hematology-specific challenges of implementing and balancing these principles in therapeutic trials (e.g., enrollment criteria, endpoint selection, etc.) The final didactic is a guided review of a cooperative group trial protocol by clinical trialists from UW Madison, focusing on practical aspects of trial design and implementation. The journal club curriculum includes a methodology rubric trainees can apply during the development of their journal club presentation, as well as a one-on-one debrief session with faculty after their presentation to discuss challenges. Evaluations throughout the curriculum include pre/post survey of learners' comfort and identification with critical appraisal, as well as pre/post knowledge assessment with multiple choice test at beginning and end of curriculum. Conclusion: This curriculum is a proof-of-concept theory-based methodology curriculum for hematology/oncology fellows. The curriculum is being implemented in the first half of the 2023-24 academic year and will report out initial results by ASH 2023. If successful, this curriculum could potentially be expanded to a more extensive array of methodology topics within hematology/oncology and be applied on a larger scale.
