Interlayer Affect on Re-Coating of External Insulation Anti-Pollution Paints in HVAC/HVDC

Abstract:Room Temperature Vulcanization (RTV) anti-pollution flashover coating used in electric power external insulation has been widely painted in Northern Chinese HVAC / HVDC transmission lines, especially in Tianjin, all insulators are coated. This paper takes RTV coating's life assessment, focusing pollution interlayer affect on re-coating. Through the analysis of the original coating's properties, such as powdering, shedding and adhesion, this paper establishes the principles of re-coating. It should be avoided painting in fog, rain, snow, dew or high humidity environment, and timely removed the surface contamination on the original surface. Salt component of the interlayer is a major contributing factor, and its precipitation cause blistering, local hydrophobic loss, electric field distortion and partial discharge. This paper summarizes key technologies of re-coating under heavy pollution or high humidity conditions, to solve the technical problems of life assessment and interlayer affects. Analysis of filthy sandwich influence can clearly make the re-coating's criterion under different conditions, and it likes to take an important role to enhance electrical power transmission and transformation equipment insulation level.
