Abstract:The optimal control of traffic flow is imp ortant in urban transportation.Reasonable optimal traffic control strategy can improve traffic capacity,enhance vehicle average speed and make a progress in urban traffic conditions.In this paper,an optimized traffic control model is founded through a more flexible agent self-control arithmetic and multi-agent negotiate strategy.In simulation,this new optimal strategy is proved efficient in dealing with the traffic congestion problem and improving the traffic capacity.

Abstract:Traffic jams arise from an imbalance in the supply of and demand for road space. One can understand that reducing traffic jam means either increasing the supply of road space or reducing the demand for road loading. This work focuses on how to alleviate the demand for peak automotive travel. We propose a new control method to simulate and analyze a traffic jam zone happened in an urban traffic network by using Aimsun. Finally, we also do three scenario cases low, middle and heavy traffic flow works to compare with normal regular traffic light control rules, the diamond control strategy and our new control policy. Simulation results show that our new propose traffic control policy is the best one among the others.

Abstract:This paper aims to investigate the characteristics of mixed traffic flow comprising regular and autonomous vehicles. An improved cellular automata model integrated with a multi-agent system was employed as the modeling platform. A 3-lane freeway stretch with one on-ramp and one off-ramp was applied. Two sets of rules for lane changing were designed to address mild and aggressive lane changing behavior. With extensive simulation studies, we obtained some promising results. First, the inclusion of autonomous vehicles to road could considerably improve traffic. And, the level of improvement increases with the penetration rate. Second, the lane changing frequency between neighboring lanes evolves with traffic density along a fundamental-diagram-like curve. Third, the impact of autonomous vehicles on the overall traffic flow characteristics and lane-wise lane changing mainly correlate with their smart maneuver in both lane-changing and car-following.

Abstract:Traffic system is time-varying and complicated so that traditional signal control methods can't meet the demand of modern traffic management. This paper proposes a novel control model with multi-agent architecture to improve the traffic signal control efficiency and relieve traffic congestion. First, we present the structure of a single agent which consists of sense module, execution module, communication module, data center, experience base, extended base, decision logic and optimizer. And then we present the message-passing and control mechanism of the multi-agent system. Finally, the simulation results prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the signal control mechanism with multi-agent structure over traffic networks.

Abstract:The available capacity of motorway networks is degraded in presence of traffic congestion, leading to reduced throughput, increased pollution and higher accident risk. The traffic flow efficiency may be increased via suitable application of several control measures, such as ramp metering, driver information, route guidance, variable speed limits and further link control measures. This paper presents a macroscopic traffic flow model along with selected validation results, followed by an overview of some generic traffic surveillance methods and control strategies for motorway networks. Limited simulation and field results demonstrating the efficiency of the presented methods are also provided.

Abstract:With rapid urbanization all over the world, the traffic congestion problem is becoming increasing severe. In particular, many metropolitan areas suffer from the problem of network gridlock in peak hours, which is mainly attributed to the limited street space as well as inefficient intersection signal control to cope the excessive demand. In light of this, in this paper we propose a model to describe the risk of gridlock on a network and develop an intersection control strategy to mitigate such risk. The intersection control is formulated within a decentralized agent-based framework, casting it as a dynamic portfolio management problem. Some properties of the proposed control strategy are discussed, along with numerical experiments demonstrating the performance on a grid network.

Abstract:An urban region traffic intelligent coordinated control method based on multi-agent is presented, and the control target is to make bus-weighted vehicle average delay least. A two-layer hierarchical control architecture is used. The high-layer is the zone intelligent controller (ZCA) deciding key intersection and adjusting common cycle length real-time. The low-layer is constructed by intersection intelligent controllers (ICA). An ICA is divided into 3 modules: phase choosing module, green observation module and decision module. ICAs cooperating with each other, can optimize phase sequence and phase length. Multi-agent fuzzy signal control strategy with bus priority is used and the fuzzy rules are optimized by genetic algorithm (GA). Simulation results indicate, compared with fixed-time control, this control strategy can reduce social vehicles mean delay efficiently, and reduce bus mean delay more.

On the basis of introduction of Chinese urban traffic control system structure and function requirement, a kind of frame structure of urban traffic intelligent control system based on multi-agents cooperation is stated. According to the frame structure, a kind of real-time and effective system design idea oriented to urban traffic is established; the system design of urban cross control and area control based on multi-agents is implemented. In this way, the goal for urban traffic intelligent control is insured so as to increase the capacity of urban road network and improve our urban traffic control and management modes. Therefore urban surroundings quality will be enhanced, and the comfortable and delightful traffic surroundings will be built.

Abstract:To reduce the mean delay time of vehicles on artery, a dynamic two-direction green wave intelligent control strategy based on multi-gaent was presented. Two-layer hierarchical structure and fuzzy logic were used to solve the coordinated control problem of the artery. Up-run offset and down-run offset in arterial were calculated by CCA(coordination controller agent). The splits of each intersection in arterial were adjusted by ICA(intersection controller agent) at the end of each cycle. The cycle time was adjusted by a fuzzy arithmetic according to the traffic flow saturation degree of the key intersection on road. The offsets were calculated by the up-run speeds or the down-run speeds. The variable splits of each intersection were based on historical and real-time traffic information. The factual application results show that the strategy can reduce average stop number of vehicles on artery effectively.

Abstract:This paper proposes a multi-agent model to simulate the traffic around urban scenic spots within tourist cities, where a newly added tourist agent is involved. Due to the flexible nature of tour travel demand and the impact of the real-time information of mobile application on tourist behaviors, there is an interactive process between tourists' travel behaviors and traffic state around scenic spots. To validate the proposed model, a case study of the Yanwu Road section at the Qunxian Gate of Xiamen University is conducted. According to the proposed model, the influence of tourist behaviors on the traffic states can be obtained, specifically, the threshold of tourist flow that triggers changes in traffic states can be obtained. This valuable information empowers policymakers to strategically manage tourist flows and mitigate traffic congestion around scenic spots. This means that this research also provides a novel and innovative approach for traffic management demand.

Abstract: Intelligent control and guiding of urban traffic syste-m become so important nowadays especially under the current traffic status, which is more and more congested and complicated. In this paper, we proposed a method of modeling the urban traffic flow system combining the global and local model information for the whole city net. We consider that the traffic digraph is composed from several nodes and those nodes are linked with routes lines. The proposed system is inspired by the random walk theory: for each traffic flow in the urban network, we simulated it with a random walkprocessing, with vehicle flow density and driver strategy independent. These flows only shared traffic lights and affected each other in the congestion situation. Finally we get simulator solution only by seeking the stable solutions of random walk. This intelligent system is very powerful andonly the topology structure of city, the start and destination and numbers of each vehicles flow are known, it can return all of the optimized control strategy for each traffic light and driver in the traffic net. For evaluation, different road situations with various system parameters are simulated on the proposed system. The experiments results are satisfied and show the feasibility and robustness our system.

Abstract:To describe the evolution principle of vehicle queue and reveal the formation mechanism of traffic domino effect, a model system for describing the time-space characteristics of traffic flow was developed on the basis of graph theory and matrix theory by considering the need of the actual problem.The description function signal timing, road characteristics and traffic flow characteristics were built respectively.The functi associating traffic flow with time and space were constructed.Taking an example of a plain intersectbranch vector, lane vector, lane attribute vector, existence matrix of traffic flow, flow matrix, conflict matrix of traffic flows, signal phase matrix, association matrixes of traffic flow with time and space were presented.The resulting model system can provide an effective tool for studying the domino effect of vehicle queue.

Abstract:This paper uses large-scale systems decomposition-coordination principle, fuzzy theory and neural networks technique to solve the problem of real time coordinated control for urban trunk road. Firstly, a neural macroscopic dynamic model based on the Kashani model for urban trunk road is proposed. Secondly, a two-level coordinated fuzzy control method implemented by neural network is presented. Based on the traffic volume data measured from each intersection the coordinated layer is coordinated with the number vehicle between the adjacent intersections. The operating layer adjusts on-line signal cycle and splits of every intersection. The object of the control method is to unblock the traffic trunk road and to shorten the average vehicle delay time. The simulation shows the proposed method has better performance than the fixed time control method.

Abstract:A structural model for urban arterial roads traffic flow is proposed. It describes the road traffic dynamics in a disaggregated way. The structural model's main components are as follows: (I) A link traffic model that tracks the traffic waves cyclically: Traffic waves within each cycle are captured by three characteristic points. These points are formed when different traffic waves meet. (2) A proportional line model that is used to split the overall outflow into different turning flows: The model is derived directly from the first-in-first-out (FIFO) principle. (3) A spillover component that deals with channelized section queue overflow. (4) A traffic flow performance index component that outputs macroscopic and microscopic-level indexes. These indexes include delays, stops, queue lengths, vehicle trajectories, and travel times. The first three can be used in traffic flow optimization and the last two are valuable in vehicle emissions evaluation. Simulation results show that, with increasing numerical resolution, the traditional CTM (cell transmission model) gradually converges to our model.

Abstract:Under the big data background, the massive traffic data provide the data to improve traffic control methods and put forward higher requirements for the accuracy of the traffic signal control. In this paper, we analysis the influence on green wave tape by queue length of vehicles through congestion data and sensor data on road, draw a queue dissipated model and import it into MAXBAND model. Then present a complex-arterial network mathematical programming model based on the improved MAXBAND model. The complex-arterial networks mathematical programming model can make all the intersectant arterials in the network under green wave tape control. Simulate in vissim simulation software with different vehicle flow data. The simulation results indicate that this method can produce considerable gains in performance when compared with traditional progression methods and traditional MAXBAND methods.

Abstract:The real time forecast for short-term traffic flow is the foundation of urban traffic control and guidance, which is also one of main functions of intelligent transportation system. It's proved by studies that none of forecasting models can dominate the others in all situations. A intelligent forecasting system for short-term traffic flow is proposed and constituted in this paper, in which the intelligent model choice and combination of forecasting results given by different models are implemented based on the thought of intelligent and combining forecast. It's shown by simulations that the system has good adaptability to the change of environment and can improve the forecast veracity. Applying the multi-agent technique, this forecast system is constructed and the architecture and principle of such an intelligent forecast supported system based on multi-agent is also mentioned in this paper.

Abstract:In order to study the chaos in the traffic flow based on couple map model,the time series of the traffic flow are generated by using Matlab program.The changing process of the space headway between the front and the following vehicle are obtained by the simulation.The influence of the model parameters on the movement of the traffic flow is discussed.The analysis of dynamic phase transitions in the traffic flow shows that the chaos exists in the traffic flow indeed,and the system has the characteristics of chaos following the Pomeau-Manneville path due to the variety of model parameter.5 figs,10 refs.
