Abstract:The seismic data usually is non-linear and non-stationary series, the time-frequency analysis technique has the capability to reflect the partial feature of signal in time domain and frequency domain as well. This paper studies four kinds of time-frequency analysis methods, including short time Fourier transform, Wavelet transform, also S transform and Wigner-Ville distribution. Theoretically writer used Ricker wavelet matching to simulate seismic data, in order to contrast with the real seismic records. On base of the results, it can be concluded that the generalized S transform presents better time-frequency localization precision and cross-terms suppressing. In order to better verify this theory, writer conducts several experiments in two different field, then analysis and elaborate both the advantages and disadvantages for these four time-frequency methods, in the meantime, the results also verified the superiority of generalized S transform.

Abstract:In order to resolve the no physical meaning negative frequency phenomena in Hilbert transform,the instantaneous frequency directed calculation method based on the local mean decomposition is researched.The steps of phase unwrap is presented.The direct method is compared with the direct quadrature.Because direct method and direct quadrature are equal in mathematics and have the same calculating result,direct method and direct quadrature can be thought as the same method.Direct method is also compared with the Hilbert transform,Teager energy method.Simulation and experimental results show that the direct method well reflects the signal phase modulation phenomenon,there is no obvious boundary distortion,and the instantaneous frequency is always positive.The direct method is applied in the analysis of rotating machinery vibration signals and a good result is achieved.

Abstract:The advantages of combining Fourier self-deconvolution (FSD) and wavelet transform with curve fitting for the analysis of severely overlapped bands are compared. It is shown that, for overlapped peaks with lower signal-to-noise ratios (SNR), the method of combined wavelet transform with curve fitting provides significantly better results. In contrast, the method of combined FSD with curve fitting shows better results for severely overlapped peaks with higher SNR. Consequently, when wavelet-FSD, which is based on the combination of wavelet transform and FSD, is used to resolve severely overlapped peaks prior to curve fitting, it is shown that there is a great improvement in the conditioning of curve fitting even for severely overlapped peaks with higher noise levels. Therefore, more accurate peak parameters are achieved.

Abstract:Using a wavelet function as the filter function of Fourier self-deconvolution, a new method of resolving overlapped peaks, wavelet-Fourier self-deconvolution, is founded. The properties of different wavelet deconvolution functions are studied. In addition, a cutoff value coefficient method of eliminating artificial peaks and wavelet method of removing shoulder peaks using the ratio of maximum peak to minimum peak is established. As a result, some problems in classical Fourier self-deconvolution are solved, such as the bad result of denoising, complicated processing, as well as usual appearance of artificial and shoulder peaks. Wavelet-Fourier self-deconvolution is applied to determination of multi-components in oscillographic chronopotentiometry. Experimental results show that the method has characteristics of simpler process and better effect of processing.

Abstract:Fourier self-deconvolution was the most effective technique in resolving overlapping bands, in which deconvolution function results in deconvolution and apodization smoothes the magnified noise. Yet, the choice of the original half-width of each component and breaking point for truncation is often very subjective. In this paper, the method of combined wavelet transform with curve fitting was described with the advantages of an enhancement of signal to noise ratio as well as the improved fitting condition, and was applied to objective optimization of the o riginal half-widths of components in unresolved bands for Fourier self-deconvolution. Again, a noise was separated from a noisy signal by wavelet transform,therefore, the breaking point of apodization function can be determined directly in frequency domain. Accordingly, some artifacts in Fourier self-deconvolution were minimized significantly.
A New Approach to the Improvement of FFT Spectrum Qualitity

Abstract:Noting the continuity of discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of a finite time series, an interpolation formula for the DFT spectrum based on corresponding fast fourier transform (FFT) is derived. According to the formula, a parabolic iteration method and a computer program for searching the frequency, amplitude. and phase of a spectral peak in a frequency interval of interest are presented. The iteration can converge to the required frequency with fairly good precision in only several steps. An investigation concerning the frequency resolution and the influence of window functions on the DFT spectrum are also made, and it is pointed out that the Hanning window is suitable for a whole view spectral analysis, while the rectangular window for the local spectral analysis.

Abstract:The principle of quasi-synchronous discrete fourier transform (DFT) algorithm was introduced and the simulation on the algorithm was carried out. The quasi-synchronous DFT algorithm is independent of the first sample point and it is able to start sampling at any moment. The maximum relative amplitude error and phase error of the algorithm are 0.05 % and 5.4° when the frequency of the signal is between 49.5 Hz and 50.5 Hz. The accuracy of quasi-synchronous DFT algorithm can be improved by scores of times than that of DFT algorithm.

Abstract:<p>A Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS) is recognized as a highly precise analytical instrument for analyzing the constituent elements of matter in the fields of physics, chemistry, aerospace, and so on. With the emergence and development of miniaturized and portable devices in numerous scientific and technological fields, there has been an urgent need for on-chip FTSs due to their benefits of small size, portability, low energy consumption, and robustness. However, the small size of on-chip FTSs hinders the acquisition of a large optical path difference, resulting in a low resolution of the spectrometer. In addition, the sampler spacing is not sufficiently small to satisfy Nyquist's sampling theorem, directly influencing the bandwidth of the spectrometer. Therefore, studies have been performed to investigate the trade-off between the reduced size and performance of spectrometers. This paper aims to systematically review the progress in on-chip FTSs, especially in on-chip static FTSs, including spatially modulated, temporally modulated, and space-time comodulated FTSs, from the aspects of theories, implementations, and performance indicators. Finally, the paper ends with a discussion of the challenges and a view of the prospective development of this exciting field.</p>

Abstract:Abstract In physical optics, Fresnel diffraction matters. The single Fourier transform method has been widely used in Fresnel diffraction calculation and can perform the direct computation of the output field with high efficiency. Based on a phase-space analysis, we find that the conventional single Fourier transform method cannot correctly deal with the full bandwidth of the input field. Aliasing occurs with high-frequency components because the bandwidth transfer capacity of the conventional method is insufficient, which greatly deteriorates the calculation accuracy. To address this serious problem, we propose a single Fourier transform-based full-bandwidth Fresnel diffraction calculation method. By rearrangement of the sampling resources, all the frequency components can be correctly transferred for accurate, efficient, and flexible Fresnel diffraction calculation.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose the Fourier frequency vector (FFV), inherently, associated with multidimensional Fourier transform. With the help of FFV, we are able to provide physical meaning of so called negative frequencies in multidimensional Fourier transform (MDFT), which in turn provide multidimensional spatial and space-time series analysis. The complex exponential representation of sinusoidal function always yields two frequencies, negative frequency corresponding to positive frequency and vice versa, in the multidimensional Fourier spectrum. Thus, using the MDFT, we propose multidimensional Hilbert transform (MDHT) and associated multidimensional analytic signal (MDAS) with following properties: (a) the extra and redundant positive, negative, or both frequencies, introduced due to complex exponential representation of multidimensional Fourier spectrum, are suppressed, (b) real part of MDAS is original signal, (c) real and imaginary part of MDAS are orthogonal, and (d) the magnitude envelope of a original signal is obtained as the magnitude of its associated MDAS, which is the instantaneous amplitude of the MDAS. The proposed MDHT and associated DMAS are generalization of the 1D HT and AS, respectively. We also provide the decomposition of an image into the AM-FM image model by the Fourier method and obtain explicit expression for the analytic image computation by 2DDFT.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of the classical Zoom-FFT,a Zoom-FFT algorithm based on Fourier transform spectroscopy was presented.Both FFT and Zoom-FFT were used to process the interferogram with different sampling steps by Matlab simulation software,through the comparison of the inverted and original spectrum curves,it indicated that the spectrum could be inverted by both FFT and Zoom-FFT when the sampling step was less than 20 μm;But when the sampling step was greater than 20 μm and less than 33.3 μm,the spectrum could not be inverted by FFT algorithm,while the spectrum could be inverted by Zoom-FFT.

Abstract:For any given signal, determining the existence of its Fourier transform has remained an unsolved problem. This raises many concerns in the teaching of signal analysis courses, and also in many engineering applications. This paper presents an analysis of the problem. By comparing the characteristics of the ramp signal,s Fourier transform with that of the Fourier transforms of common energy signals and power signals, the author points out some problems regarding the Fourier transform of the ramp signal. This analysis shows that ramp signal does not satisfy the Fourier integral theorem, thus invalidating the Fourier transformation of ramp signal. Finally, the author further proves this assertion through simulation analysis, and summarizes the general rules of some common signal,s Fourier transform.

Abstract:The spectral decomposition technique plays an important role in reservoir characterization, for which the time-frequency distribution method is essential. The deconvolutive short-time Fourier transform (DSTFT) method achieves a superior time-frequency resolution by applying a 2D deconvolution operation on the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) spectrogram. For seismic spectral decomposition, to reduce the computation burden caused by the 2D deconvolution operation in the DSTFT, the 2D STFT spectrogram is cropped into a smaller area, which includes the positive frequencies fallen in the seismic signal bandwidth only. In general, because the low-frequency components of a seismic signal are dominant, the removal of the negative frequencies may introduce a sharp edge at the zero frequency, which would produce artifacts in the DSTFT spectrogram. To avoid this problem, we used the analytic signal, which is obtained by applying the Hilbert transform on the original real seismic signal, to calculate the STFT spectrogram in our method. Synthetic and real seismic data examples were evaluated to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:We investigate the propagation of light beams including Hermite–Gauss, Bessel–Gauss and finite energy Airy beams in a linear medium with parabolic potential. Expectedly, the beams undergo oscillation during propagation, but quite unexpectedly they also perform automatic Fourier transform, that is, periodic change from the beam to its Fourier transform and back. In addition to oscillation, the finite-energy Airy beams exhibit periodic inversion during propagation. The oscillating period of parity-asymmetric beams is twice that of the parity-symmetric beams. Based on the propagation in parabolic potential, we introduce a class of optically-interesting beams that are self-Fourier beams—that is, the beams whose Fourier transforms are the beams themselves.

Abstract:The feasibility study is accomplished using the Fourier Transform(FT)method to demodulate the spectropolarimetric information for the new spectropolarimeter based on intensity modulation.The whole progress of mathematics derivation about it is proposed by analysing the modulation principle in the new spectropolarimeter.The simulation experiment on the demodulation progress is also achieved.The experimental results show that the high fidelity spectropolarimetric information from the targets can be demodulated when the FT method is used and it is an ideal and feasible method.

Abstract:Self-calibration emerges as a promising approach in ultra-precision field, overcoming the limitations imposed by instrument capabilities in conventional calibration. In the self-calibration research, the algorithm based on the Fourier transform firstly established a rigorous theoretical framework. However, despite advancements in alternative self-calibration methods that have improved noise suppression, the traditional Fourier algorithm still faces challenges, particularly in mitigating random measurement noise in the separation results. In this study, we introduce methods on enhancing the noise suppression capabilities of the Fourier self-calibration algorithm. We investigate the hypothesis in the traditional algorithm and find that the computation of weighted averages had minimal effects. Then, we present our method by augmenting measurement positions. Considering both the increase in the number of measurement positions and the enhancement of noise suppression capabilities, augmenting translation positions in the opposite direction is proved to be the most effective strategy. Our algorithm can effectively suppress measurement noise when one-sided point number of the artifact is below 21. While the additional data processing slightly increases runtime, it does not alter the algorithm's computational complexity, yet it significantly improves noise suppression. The effectiveness of our method is validated through a Monte Carlo comparison of uncertainties with the original algorithm. Experiments on Fizeau interferometer further prove robustness and practical feasibility of our proposed algorithm, with the measurement repeatability being reduced by 26.34% and 25.15% in the errors separated from the stage and the artifact.

Abstract:A fiber fourier transform spectrometer is developed to meet the commands of the fast spectral measurement.The data acquisition and spectral recovery software for the spectrometer are introduced,including the main program structure and the spectral recovery algorithms.The software can do the real-time data acquisition,processing and show the spectrum.The result has the same shape with the standard spectrum,and the resolution can reach 0.78 cm-1.The software can meet the demands of the practical application.

Abstract:Intensity modulation-Fourier transform spectropolarimetry (IMFTSP) is a novel technology that combines the intensity modulation spectropolarimetry and Fourier transform spectroscopy. The IMFTSP can obtain full Stokes spectropolarimetric parameters simultaneously, and maintains the throughput (Jacquinot) and multiplex (Fellgett) advantages. Yet aside from this, the IMFTSP has the advantage of reducing the complexity of data processing. The data collecting and spectropolarimetric parameters reconstruction processes were analyzed theoretically in this paper, the theoretical formulas are presented, and a whole process mathematical simulation for the IMFTSP system is introduced. The theory analysis and simulation results proved the feasibility of the IMFTSP.
