Abstract:Web Services are self-contained, modular applications that can be described, published, located, and invoked over a network, generally, the Web. Yet the problem emerges as different Web Services interoperate each other. In this paper we recommend the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)[1] as the communication standard in the Web Services Architecture to solve the problem.First, we describe what is Web Services and present the architecture of it. Then, according to the challenge that Web Services faces, we address the key enabling technologies of which SOAP be composed. SOAP has many advantages that other binary protocols, such as Java RMI, do not have. Finally, by introducing an E-business model based on the integration of SOAP, UDDI [2], MQ [3] etc., we show the manner and flow of SOAP to implement Web Services architecture.

Abstract:The introduction of the semantic web and web service technologies enables business processes, modelling and management to enter an entirely new stage. Traditional web-based business data and transactions can now be extracted to discover new business rules and strategies. Methods equipped with business policies and processes will construct services, workflows, and software functions. As a service intensive activity, micro-payment has many tasks involving different forms of services. Through analysing web service issues for micro-payment systems, we will investigate, discuss and illustrate how the web services technology support and transform the business process and integration model and produce various service flows.

Abstract:Nowadays, invoking third party code increasingly involves calling web services via their web APIs, as opposed to the more traditional scenario of downloading a library and invoking the library's API. However, there are also new challenges for developers calling these web APIs. In this paper, we highlight a broad set of these challenges and argue for resulting opportunities for software engineering research to support developers in consuming web APIs. We outline two specific research threads in this context: (1) web API specification curation, which enables us to know the signatures of web APIs, and (2) static analysis that is capable of extracting URLs, HTTP methods etc. of web API calls. Furthermore, we present new work on how we combine (1) and (2) to provide IDE support for application developers consuming web APIs. As web APIs are used broadly, research in supporting the consumption of web APIs offers exciting opportunities.

Abstract:With the rise in the availability of scalable network technologies and resources, Service Providers of all kinds (xSPs) are given possibilities to deliver services through Internet in order for all stakeholders to conduct collaborative online e-business. In such context, new trend of e-business features increased interoperability among corporations and individuals in highly dynamic homogeneous and heterogeneous computing environments and therefore, the needs to streamline the e-business activities, decrease costs, increase productivity, and service new revenue opportunities will all demand xSPs to considerably re-define and re-design their applications integration strategy and integration solution. To reach this new paradigm, technologies notably Grid Computing, Semantic Web and the composition of these two, Semantic Grid as building blocks for the alternative integration approach are considered by both business practitioners and academia. This paper discusses that Service Providers are identified to play a key role in functionalizing such approach by adopting new information systems innovation and Internet Application Integration (IAI) is posited as representative of implementation model for building large-scale and ubiquitous e-commerce marketplace.

Abstract:Summary form only given. Service-oriented computing (SOC) is considered as a new computing paradigm after the object-oriented computing paradigm. It utilizes services as fundamental elements for applications/solutions. Services are autonomous platform-independent computational elements that can be described, published, discovered, orchestrated and programmed using XML for the purpose of developing massively distributed interoperable applications. Web services technology is part of the SOC paradigm and can be considered as an implementation of the SOC model. Web services are featured with application, platform and provider independence. They provide an appropriate approach for building open large-scale application environments. In such environments, services are not treated as isolated and one-time affairs but rather as elements of an interactive, dynamic and collaborative architecture. Service collaboration within or across environments is modelled in terms of supported transactions or processes that are subject to norms or protocols specified for certain business domains. Services are thereby orchestrated vertically within one environment, or horizontally across multiple environments. As a result, an individual environment streamlines services in terms of internal transactions while restrains its function scope to be highly specific to the targeted user group. Multiple environments collaborate in order to extend their business chains. Web services have been supported by major IT vendors through their commercial platforms such as Microsoft's .NET and SUN's J2EE. Web services have had quick evolution and broad acceptance. However, there are still a number of issues that limit the wide applications of Web services in industry. Current Web services technologies lack semantic description, generic service model, dynamic composition, and flexible cooperation strategies. Software agents have been proved to handle sophisticated interaction patterns. Agent-orientation is a- n appropriate design paradigm to enable automatic and dynamic collaborations, especially for e-Business systems with complex and distributed transactions. In services realization, software agents are very essential for the provision of a focused and cohesive set of active capabilities. Therefore, we envision a combination of agent and Web services technologies and strongly believe that we are on the right track towards an evolution of current SOC paradigm. Software agents can be one of the essential evolvements of Web services in that they are functional entities, instead of simple interaction delegations or communication proxies. The idea is to exploit agents' capabilities of proactive interactions to enhance Web services' behaviours. With such a computing paradigm, software components, each representing both a service and an agent, cooperatively or competitively interact to provide unified services in a specified environment, such as brokering, pricing and negotiation in an e-marketplace, as well as cross-enterprise environments, such as integration and cooperation in a virtual enterprise. We envision a Web service-based environment as a collection of economically motivated agent-based Web services. Software agents are implemented as services with different functionalities and roles. In fact, the dynamic agent-based behaviour model plus the Web service-based interoperable protocols can generate a flexible, reconfigurable and coordinated approach to perform business process management both across enterprises and within an enterprise. We have developed an agent-based service-oriented system architecture for manufacturing enterprise collaboration. In this system, each enterprise provides a number of Web services registered in a UDDI repository. Abstract:With the increasing scale of distributed resources, which couples a wide variety of geographically distributed computational resources, storage systems, data sources and computational kernels, service management and scheduling is a complex undertaking. Since most services on the Internet are mutually independent, users have trouble in accessing several services to achieve a single purpose. Furthermore, the resources are owned by different individuals or organizations with their own policies, have different access and cost models, and have dynamically varying loads and availability.To address the confronted issues, we propose an adaptive approach in this paper for distributed services composition and allocation, which is service-centric and workflow-oriented. We use XML to describe the services by encoding such factors as resource configuration, performance, and service-specific capabilities, which enables services to be easily developed, composed, deployed, relocated, monitored and managed in distributed environments. We use service composition technology to construct composite service by combining several independent services, which can be considered as the element services of the composite service, executed as workflow process. The allocation of such element services Will be decided dynamically due to the economic objective function to address the issues of adaptation, availability, performance and economic cost.

Abstract:Web services provides a new solution by a programming Internet model to integrate distributed and heterogeneous systems into unite. The evolution process of Web services from the integrated views of the distribution computing mixed with grid computing and XML technique is presented. A new Web services architecture model: RSRPM (resources,services,roles,protocols and methods) model and formulated definition have been provided. The main steps to build, to apply and to realize Web services application and core protocol stacks are introduced. Furthermore, some characteristics of different developing tools are compared to each other, such as .Net, WSDE and Sun One. Then, four challenges and trends of the Web services in the application process are pointed out.

Abstract:A service ecosystem is an increasingly popular service organization form, where participants, services, data, resources, and capital of different domains are integrated. It can empower business systems to consider the exchanged values and creations in a certain context. How to manage the participants’ cooperation and arrange the elements in the service ecosystem, namely service pattern, have become an important factor to influence the competitiveness of enterprises. However, at present, most of the relevant researches stay in the description of business model and qualitative analysis stage. The design and application of service pattern is still blind and risky. In this article, a service pattern-oriented computing architecture is proposed. It can systematically design and innovate new service patterns and comprehensively assess and simulate them.

Abstract:Cloud Computing provides an abstraction layer between computing resource and its technical execution details, such as its servers, databases, and networks, in turn enabling resources to be used on demand while avoiding efforts in organization management. However, without Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), organizations will find it almost impossible to reach the cloud.SOA, an elastic, modular approach to distributing IT services, is an essential foundation for emerging technologies like cloud. SOA provides significant advantages over current IT architectures. While it depresses costs, its main benefit is the improvement in swiftness that it provides to organizations, enabling them to respond to the increasing rate of change occurring in nearly every business around the world. Gradually, Cloud Computing and SOA are assuming more noticeable roles in large organizations for the purpose of operational efficiency and cost reduction. These technologies already left behind the status of emergent technologies to consolidate as mature and upheld technologies. It is evident that a growing adoption of cloud platforms and service-oriented architectures is taking place in all market segments. Conversely, little is said, in fact, as SOA and cloud computing are related. Are SOA and Cloud computing approaches complementary to each other, or should they be used separately? Abstract:The open, dynamic, and constantly changing nature of Internet-based systems poses special challenges for software technologies. Unlike traditional software systems, Internet-centered software systems need to be autonomous, cooperative, situational, evolvable, emergent, and trustworthy. To cope with these characteristics, emerging software technologies are attracting attention from the research community, such as Internetware [1, 2, 5] (focusing on software paradigms) and DevOps [3, 4, 6] (focusing on software processes, culture, and methodologies). Internetware is a new software paradigm that can model the above characteristics of Internet-centered software systems, where the software is architected like the Internet, developed with the Internet, operated on the Internet, and provided as services via the Internet. While ensuring high quality, DevOps aims at increasing the frequency and speed of bringing changes from development into production, usually achieved by new organizational structures and processes with a high degree of automation (such as continuous deployment to production and feedback to developers). We present a selection of nine articles on Internetware and DevOps. Each article has undergone multiple rounds of review by at least three experts following the highest standards. The article “i-Jacob: An Internetware-Oriented Approach to Optimizing Computation-Intensive Mobile Web Browsing” by Liu et al. proposes the i-Jacob approach to improving the performance of mobile Web browsing by systematically enabling offloading of JavaScript computations between various mobile devices and clouds. The article “Adaptive Speculation for Efficient Internetware Application Execution in Clouds” by Ouyang et al. presents an algorithm to improve the execution efficiency of Internetware applications by dynamically adapting to different job types and system conditions. The article “CloudMF: Model-Driven Management of Multi-Cloud Applications” by Ferry et al. presents the evaluation and two significant extensions of the Cloud Modelling Framework (CloudMF), which fosters the design, deployment, and maintenance of multi-cloud applications. Abstract:The concepts "Big Service" and "Internet of Services (IoS)" arise along with the flourish of Internet-based service paradigm and services computing technologies. Business functionalities belonging to different organizations, regions or domains are encapsulated as services and publicized to outside world, and these services are further aggregated by public platforms, then complicated and flexible collaborations among services could be constructed for the fulfillment of personalized customer demands. Big Service and IoS have drastically fostered a new approach for business innovation and transformation of various types of industries. In this paper, we introduce the fundamental concepts and reference architecture of Big Service and IoS, then summarize the corresponding roadmap of business innovation and transformation, and analyze the intrinsic drivers of such roadmap. Referential development and execution environment of Big Service and IoS is presented, along with several candidate technological architecture for companies to adopt in different application scenarios.

Abstract:The current Web services technologies have not exploited sufficient semantics and approaches to dynamic service‐oriented operations in open environments. This paper argues that such operations can be realized through agent‐oriented interaction approaches. The key challenge is to develop an integration framework for the two paradigms, agent‐ and service‐oriented, in a way that capitalizes on their individual strengths. This paper proposes the notion of agent‐based Web services (AWS). We address several critical issues, including the appropriate architectural framework and the structure of its main elements (agent‐based Web services), their meta‐model, supporting technologies, integration method, and implementation approach. An integrated development environment for this framework called SOAStudio has been developed and tested by implementing a case study of a reverse auction e‐marketplace.

Abstract:Business Webs apply the idea of value networks to the WWW. The underlying delivery platform is commonly referred to as the Internet of Services and will certainly have to deal with a great variety and amount of information about services along several service information dimensions. As soon as brokerage, discovery, or community feedback parts are decentralized, there emerge a number of service information challenges (modeling the information in a holistic way, documentation, interlinkage, tool interoperability, distributed querying, inconsistent information, and cooperation of different stakeholders). In this paper, we propose to counter such service information challenges by two artifacts. First, we contribute a Service Ontology based on a sound and rigid foundational ontology. The Service Ontology provides a holistic and consistent way of capturing service information. We apply the recommendations of the W3C Semantic Web Activity whose recent standardization has already opened new possibilities for tool interoperability, interlinkage of information, and distributed querying on the web. However, building and prescribing an ontology in standardized languages is not enough to address all service information challenges. Therefore, as a second contribution, we provide a method around the ontology including a governance framework, guidelines for applying the W3C Semantic Web recommendations, a lifecycle-spanning tool chain, and different levels of applicability. We label our method Semantic Business Web approach, since we build on W3C Semantic Web standards, use and extend them in the Business Web setting. Both artifacts are constructed in an interdisciplinary way by experts participating in the German lighthouse project THESEUS/TEXO. The project’s scenario also serves as a proof of concept evaluation of the artifacts.

Abstract:With the advancement of information technology and business transformation, an enterprise has to be adaptive to expand its infrastructure and collaborate with its internal and external business processes to make more profits from its value chain. As an enabling technology, Web services provide a standard means to allow heterogenous applications to communicate with each other using Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). The standard interface description language and communication mechanism of Web services are the keys to build a modularized and adaptive e-business infrastructure that can adjust to the changing environments. In this chapter, we will introduce how to use Web services and Grid services to build adaptive e-business infrastructure for intelligent enterprise. Specifically, we will introduce a conceptual architecture of building adaptive e-business infrastructure using Web services. Then we will present an overview of Web services creation and invocation, federated Web services discovery and Web services flow composition. After that, a concept of universal Grid service is introduced for enabling Open Grid Services Architecture to support business process integration and management. At the end of this chapter, we will conclude by introducing our vision on the future adaptive e-business infrastructure for intelligent enterprise.

Abstract:The Internet, once a network of networks, has become not only the platform of choice for delivering services to increasingly mobile users, but also the connective tissue between people, information and things. Almost all new and popular computing and application paradigms were born in the Internet, or at least motivated by it, including Web 2.0, Social Networking, Mobile Internet, Cloud Computing, Internet of things, and big data. Software has played a central part in the evolution of the Internet. The open, dynamic, evolving environment of Internet computing continues to demand new software technologies in order to realize its rapid paradigm shifts. These new software technologies need to meet an increasing number of requirements; they need to be autonomous, situational, evolvable, cooperative, emergent, trustworthy and so on.
