Abstract:To address the trade-offs between strength-ductility balance and stretch-flangeability of DP steels, an 1100 MPa grade DP steel with a low strength difference between ferrite and martensite was fabricated in this study through the simultaneous strengthening of ferrite by solid solution hardening of Si and precipitation hardening of VC particles and weakening of martensite by low C addition combined with tailoring a high martensite content. It is demonstrated that the hole expansion rate of the designed DP steel is significantly increased by 104 % compared with commercial DP980 steel. Additionally, the designed DP steel exhibits a superior strength-ductility combination, boasting a notable 25 % and 13 % increase in yield strength and ultimate tensile strength, respectively, without compromising total elongation compared to commercial DP980 steel. The hole expansion behavior of designed DP steel is emphasized by investigating the microstructural evolution during the hole punching and expansion process. The related results show that the excellent coordinate deformation between ferrite and martensite and impressive martensite deformability of the designed DP steel significantly suppress the formation and development of interphase decohesion and martensite cracking during the hole punching and expansion process, which ultimately improves the HER.
