Abstract:Lateral stability control is an essential part of vehicle active safety system. However, the vehicle steering time delay affects the control performance, it may lead to overshoot, oscillation and divergence of the steering response, and even deterioration in stability. Especially, the steering time delay of buses is longer than the small passenger cars due to heavier load and longer wheelbase. This paper proposes a novel interleaved predictive control (IPC) framework considering the effects of steering hysteresis to improve the lateral stability of buses. First, a controller intervention criterion is established using the phase plane, and a back propagation neural network (BPNN) with multi-factor coupling is trained to output the stability boundary parameters of the phase plane. Second, a state observer based on the extended Kalman filter (EKF) is designed to estimate the sideslip angle, and the online autoregressive integrated moving average model (OARIMA) is used to predict the yaw rate and sideslip angle online. Third, an active front steering (AFS) control system based on the Smith predictor and sliding mode controller (Smith-SMC) is designed to address the time delay of the steering actuator in vehicle stability control. Moreover, MIT adaptive law is used to correct the Smith prediction model in real time. Finally, the proposed framework is validated by numerical simulations using MATLAB/Simulink and TruckSim software. The results show that the proposed framework can accurately predict the short-term trends of the yaw rate and sideslip angle, then the controller intervenes before the vehicle exceeds the stability boundary and reduces the vehicle instability time. The Smith-SMC achieves good lateral stability control with steering delay.
