Abstract:The hyperbolic QR factorization is a generalization of the classical QR factorization and can be regarded as the triangular case of the indefinite QR factorization proposed by Sanja Singer and Saša Singer. In this paper, the perturbation analysis for this factorization is considered using the classical matrix equation approach, the refined matrix equation approach, and the matrix–vector equation approach. The first order and rigorous normwise perturbation bounds with normwise or componentwise perturbations in the given matrix are derived. The obtained first order bounds can be much tighter than the corresponding existing ones. Each of the obtained rigorous bounds is composed of a small constant multiple of the corresponding first order bound and an additional term with simple form. In particular, for square matrix, the rigorous bounds for the factor R are just the 6+3 multiple of the corresponding first order bounds. These rigorous bounds can be used safely for all cases in comparison to the first order bounds.

Abstract:We first propose the two-sided generalized hyperbolic QR factorization of a matrix pair, which is a generalization of the generalized QR factorization. More explicitly, two orthogonal matrices in the generalized QR factorization are replaced with two corresponding J-orthogonal matrices, where J is a signature matrix. Then, we consider the perturbation analysis of the new matrix factorization. Some first order normwise perturbation bounds are derived using the refined matrix equation approach and the updated matrix–vector equation approach. The corresponding perturbation bounds for the generalized QR factorization are also obtained as the special case. In comparison, these bounds can be much tighter than the previous ones derived from Barrlund (1994) [A. Barrlund, Perturbation bounds for the generalized QR factorization, Linear Algebra Appl. 207 (1994) 251–271].

Abstract:Combining the modified matrix-vector equation approach with the technique of Lyapunov majorant function and the Banach fixed point principle, we obtain new rigorous perturbation bounds for the LU and QR factorizations with normwise or componentwise perturbations in the given matrix, where the componentwise perturbations have the form of backward errors resulting from the standard factorization algorithms. Each of the new rigorous perturbation bounds is a rigorous version of the first-order perturbation bound derived by the matrix-vector equation approach in the literature, and we present their explicit expressions. These bounds improve the results given by Chang and Stehle [SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications 2010; 31:2841--2859]. Moreover, we derive new tighter first-order perturbation bounds including two optimal ones for the LU factorization, and provide the explicit expressions of the optimal first-order perturbation bounds for the LU and QR factorizations.

Abstract:The perturbation of the QR decompostion is analyzed from the probalistic point of view. The perturbation error is approximated by a first-order perturbation expansion with high probability where the perturbation is assumed to be random. Different from the previous normwise perturbation bounds using the Frobenius norm, our techniques are used to develop the spectral norm, as well as the entry-wise perturbation bounds for the stochastic perturbation of the QR decomposition. The statistics tends to be tighter (in the sense of the expectation) and more realistic than the classical worst-case perturbation bounds. The novel perturbation bounds are applicable to a wide range of problems in statistics and communications. In this paper, we consider the perturbation bound of the leverage scores under the Gaussian perturbation, the probability guarantees and the error bounds of the low rank matrix recovery, and the upper bound of the errors of the tensor CUR-type decomposition. We also apply our perturbation bounds to improve the robust design of the Tomlinson-Harashima precoding in the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system.

Based on this factorization, it is proved that the minimal symplectic uniton number of ϕ is not larger thanN, and the minimal uniton number of ϕ is not larger than 2N - 1. The latter has been shown in literature in a quite different way.

Abstract: By defining two important terms called basic perturbation vectors and obtaining their linear bounds, we obtain the linear componentwise perturbation bounds for unitary factors and upper triangular factors of the generalized schur decomposition. The perturbation bounds for the diagonal elements of the upper triangular factors and the generalized invariant subspace are also derived. From the former, we present an upper bound and a condition number of the generalized eigenvalue. Furthermore, with numerical iterative method, the nonlinear componentwise perturbation bounds of the generalized Schur decomposition are also provided. Numerical examples are given to test the obtained bounds. Among them, we compare our upper bound and condition number of the generalized eigenvalue with their counterparts given in the literature. Numerical results show that they are very close to each other but our results don't need to calculate the left and right eigenvectors.

Abstract:The generalized Cholesky factorization is a generalization of the classical Cholesky factorization and its block downdating problem means finding the downdated generalized Cholesky factorization when a matrix XXT is subtracted from the original matrix, where X is full column rank. In this paper, we consider the perturbation analysis of this problem. Some first order perturbation bounds are first obtained using the refined matrix equation approach and the matrix–vector equation approach. These results generalize the corresponding ones for the block downdating problem of the classical Cholesky factorization. Then, the rigorous perturbation bounds are also obtained using the combination of the classical and refined matrix equation approaches. Each of these bounds is composed of a small constant multiple of the first order term of the corresponding first order perturbation bound and an additional second order term.

Abstract:The changes in the nonnegative and positive polar factors of generalized polar decomposition and polar decomposition are studied under the additive perturbation. Some new perturbation bounds are obtained. These bounds are different from precious ones in form and measure and, in some cases, may be smaller than the corresponding existing ones. Furthermore, the corresponding perturbation bounds for generalized nonnegative and positive polar factors of (M, N) weighted polar decomposition are also presented as the straightforward corollaries.

Abstract:In this article, we determine probabilistic approximations of the entries of random perturbation matrices implementing the Markoff inequality. These approximations are used to derive with prescribed probability asymptotic componentwise perturbation bounds of some orthogonal and unitary matrix decompositions. We show that the probabilistic asymptotic bounds are significantly less conservative than the corresponding deterministic perturbation bounds. As case studies, we consider the determining of probabilistic perturbation bounds of the QR decomposition, the singular value decomposition and the Schur decomposition of a matrix using an unified method for asymptotic componentwise perturbation analysis of these decompositions. It is demonstrated that the probability bounds of the orthogonal transformations, singular values and eigenvalues are much tighter than the corresponding deterministic asymptotic bounds. The probabilistic bounds derived are appropriate for perturbation analysis of large‐order matrix problems.
