Abstract:Achalasia is a primary esophageal motility disorder characterized by a hypertensive non-relaxing lower oesophageal sphincter (LES) and absence of esophageal body peristalsis. Therapeutic options for achalasia include pharmacologic therapy, endoscopic balloon dilation, endoscopic injection of botulinum toxin, surgical thoracotomy, thoracoscopic or laparoscopic myotomy. Treatment does not reverse the underlying peristalsis, but is designed to disrupt the elevated pressure of the LES to facilitate emptying from the distal esophagus. Endoscopic myotomy(POEM) has been developed as a new endoscopic treatment to provide a less invasive and effective therapy for esophageal achalasia. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of peroral endoscopic myotomy procedures and characteristics of Esphageal achalasia.
