Abstract:Surgical treatment of scoliosis associated with Marfan syndrome poses a challenge to spine surgeons. This retrospective study was undertaken to determine whether posterior-only surgery with instrumented fixation and fusion addresses the correction of scoliosis and maintains curve correction. Twelve consecutive patients with Marfan syndrome were treated between 2002 and 2007 for scoliosis by posterior segmental instrumentation using pedicle screws or hybrid thoracic-hook and lumbar-screw constructs. Their preoperative Cobb angle averaged 66±10° (range: 55–90°). The average operation time was 252±36 min (range: 200–300 min) and the average blood loss was 690±117 ml (range: 550–920 ml). No significant complications were found. All the patients were followed for a minimum of 2 years (range: 2.4–6.8 years). The average Cobb angle was corrected to 23±8° (range: 13–35°) immediately after surgery and 28±9° (range: 14–43°) with a correction rate of 58±13% at final follow-up. The results indicate that posterior-only surgery with instrumented fixation and fusion is effective and safe for the treatment of scoliosis in selected patients with Marfan syndrome.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of orthopedic procedure with the operation of posterior correction,fixation and fusion for scoliosis associated with Marfan′s syndrome.Methods 12 cases of scoliosis associated in(Marfan′s) syndrome were treated by posterior operation of correction,fixation and fusion.The preoperative major Cobb′s angle was 62°~90°(71°±6°).Results The operation time was 3.4~4.8(4.2±0.4)h and the amount of blood loss was 550~920(690±117)ml.All the patients were followed up for 0.9~4.8 year and there was no neurologic or other complications. The postoperative Cobb angle was 24°~37°(29°±3°) and the correction rate was 51%~65%(59%±4%).The solid fusion was obtained,while no pseudoarticulation formation and breakage of the internal fixation was found.Conclusions The operation of posterior correction,fixation and fusion could often get satisfactory effect to scoliosis associated in Marfan′s syndrome.

Abstract:Objective:To analyze the results of operative treatment of scoliosis in Marfan's syndrome patients and discuss the method and announcements in these cases. Methods: Nine cases of scoliosis in Marfans syndrone treated with operation were analyzed retrospectively. We retrospectively analyze the clinic data of 9 scoliosis in Marfan's syndrome patients from May of 1999 to January of 2004. Results:The deformations of 9 scoliolosis in Marfan's syndrome patients had been effectively corrected and the functions of these patients were satisfied. Conclusion:Surgical treatment with Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation can correct the scoliotic curves in combined mode, consisting of distraction in concave side of the curves, compression in convex side of the curves, transverse traction and derotation force on the top of curves. The advantages of this technique include average distributed force placement, large correct force, stable fixation. This method don't need needn't fixation outside and profit patients to rehabilitate early.

Abstract:Objective To investigate whether anterior selective fusion (ASF) could save more distal fusion segments compared with posterior approach in the treatment of Lenke type 5 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with long term follow-up. Methods A retrospective cohort study. From 2008 to 2011, 22 AIS girls with Lenke type 5 who underwent ASF or posterior selective fusion (PSF) with more than 8-year follow-up, were extracted from the database. 13 girls in the ASF group had an average age of 14.3 +/- 1.3 years and Risser sign of 3.3 +/- 1.1; 9 PSF girls had an average age of 16.2 +/- 3.6 years and Risser sign of 3.8 +/- 1.5. The radiographic outcome was compared between groups preoperatively, 6-month postoperatively, 8-year postoperatively and at last follow-up (>8 years). Results The average follow-up duration was 8.7 +/- 0.4 (ASF) and 8.8 +/- 0.5 (PSF) years, respectively. There was no significant difference at baseline in age, Risser sign and preoperative curve pattern in the coronal and sagittal plane between the groups (P > 0.05). The ASF group had significantly shorter fusion segments (5.1 +/- 0.6 vs. 7.0 +/- 1.3) and decreased upper instrumented vertebra (UIV) (T-11 +/- 0.8 vs. T-10 +/- 0.8) than the PSF (P < 0.05); while no significant difference was found in the lower instrumented vertebra (LIV) and distal reserved segments (P > 0.05), which suggested that ASF could shorten the fusion segments by lowering UIV. The distal compensatory curve in the ASF group (9.0 degrees +/- 3.9 degrees) was significantly larger than in the PSF group (3.3 degrees +/- 2.4 degrees, P = 0.003), despite of no significant difference in the incidence of coronal imbalance (P > 0.05), indicating that both two approaches could obtain satisfactory correction in the coronal plane. In the sagittal plane, PSF patients had significantly larger lumbar lordosis (LL, 59.1 degrees +/- 10.5 degrees), thoracic kyphosis (TK, 37.2 degrees +/- 13.3 degrees) and proximal junctional angle (PJA, 13.3 degrees +/- 6.1 degrees) at the last follow-up than the ASF (LL: 43.4 degrees +/- 9.4 degrees; TK: 20.7 degrees +/- 8.4 degrees; PJA: 4.7 degrees +/- 3.4 degrees; P < 0.05), but without significant difference in proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) and sagittal vertical axis (SVA) (P > 0.05). After controlling for age, Risser sign, and radiographic parameters related to the primary curve pattern, shorter fusion segments and more distal reserved segments still remained significant in the ASF group with greater Risser sign (P < 0.05). No major intra- or post-operative complications occurred. Conclusions Both ASF and PSF could obtain satisfactory coronal and sagittal correction for Lenke 5 AIS; compared with PSF, ASF could shorten the fusion segments by lowering UIV, and save more distal fusion segments only in patients with greater skeletal maturity.

Abstract:BACKGROUND CONTEXT: An anteroposterior combined approach has been used for the treatment of congenital cervical or cervicothoracic scoliosis. However, its outcomes and surgical risks have not been clarified. PURPOSE: We analyzed the characteristics of congenital cervical and cervicothoracic scoliosis and evaluated the outcomes of an anteroposterior combined approach for its treatment. STUDY DESIGN: We carried out a retrospective clinical study of prospectively collected data. PATIENT SAMPLE: Sixteen patients were treated between 2009 and 2013. Their average age was 9.2 years. OUTCOME MEASURES: Radiographic and surgical outcomes were measured and recorded. We compared morphological parameters and preoperative and postoperative results. METHODS: All patients underwent surgery with a combined approach. The following radiographic parameters were measured: head tilt (HT), mandible incline (MI), shoulder balance (SB), structural and compensatory curves, cervical lordosis, C7 central sacral vertical line (C7-CSVL) ratio, C7 sagittal vertical axis (C7-SVA) ratio, C2-C7 SVA ratio, the angle between the upper endplate of the T2 vertebra and a horizontal line (T2 tilt), gravity line ratio. Demographic and surgical data were also collected. RESULTS: On average, the duration of follow-up was 68.0 months, surgical blood loss was 675 mL, and the duration of surgery was 400.5 minutes. The average correction rate was 64.9% in the structural curve and 29.5% in the compensatory curve. Statistical analysis showed that MI significantly correlated with HT and SB (p<. 05). The C7-CSVL ratio correlated with the HT, MI, and SB (p<. 05). The C7 -SVA ratio correlated with the structural curve and cervical lordosis (p<. 05), and the gravity line ratio correlated with the structural and compensatory curve, cervical lordosis, and C7-SVA ratio (p<. 05). Moreover, there were correlations between the structural and compensatory curves as well as between the structural curve and cervical lordosis (p<. 05). There were significant differences before and after surgery in HT, MI, and structural and compensatory curves. Four patients developed nerve root palsy after surgical correction and totally recovered by 6 months of follow-up. CONCLUSION: The combined approach is an effective surgical option for congenital cervical or cervicothoracic scoliosis. The resection of the hemivertebra cannot only improve head-neck aesthetic appearance but can also maintain the growth potential of the neck. (c) 2018 Published by Elsevier Inc.
Spinal deformities in Marfan's syndrome

Abstract:Marfan's syndrome is an hereditary disorder of the connective tissue which in its most classic form includes cardiovascular, ocular and skeletal manifestaions. Scoliosis is frequently present (40-75 per cent); the type of curve is similar to that seen in idiopathic scoliosis, but progression is often much more severe. One of our patients, a woman aged thirty-two who had never been treated, had two 180 degree curves. There is a high incidence (50 per cent) of double curves (right thoracic and left lumbar) and a 23 per cent incidence of triple curves. Vertebral inversion (thoracic lordoscoliosis) is very common and often accompanied by severe respiratory insufficiency, particularly if it is associated with funnel chest. Conservative treatment is almost invariably ineffective and should be reserved only for very slight curves. All curves of 50 degrees or more should be surgically corrected. A 40-50 per cent correction can be achieved without risk. In view of the high incidence of pseudarthrosis, systematic review and, if necessary, revision of the arthrodesis is to be recommended. In the more severe cases of kyphosis it is advisable also to perform an anterior arthrodesis. Surgery is contraindicated in the presence of severe mitral or aortic insufficiency or aortic aneurysm.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Most of the scoliolosis patients with Marfan syndrome are young, and in the growth and development period. Scoliosis develops rapidly, so a great number of patients need operation. Many patients accompanied with severe cardiorespiratory disfunction, which brings about a great difficulty for operation.OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of CD orthosis on spinal function of patients with Marfan syndrome.DESIGN: A self-control observation.SETTING: Department of Orthopaedics, Renji Hospital Affiliated to Medical College, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (i.e. Shanghai Second Medical University).PARTICIPANTS: A total of 8 severe scoliolosis patients with Marfan syndrome who were treated at Department of Orthopaedics, Renji Hospital Affiliated to Medical College, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (i.e. Shanghai Second Medical University) were enrolled from May 1999 to July 2003. Of them, there were 2 one-side curvatures, 6 two-side curvatures; 4 cases of cardiorespiratory function lost lightly, 2 cases midrange lost. Mean Cobb angle was 88°.METHODS: The patients were at prone position under general anesthesia.Incision was made at middle posterior after fixing the position. Erector spinal muscle beneath periosteum was stripped and vertebral plate to transverse process root was revealed. Claws or nails were used in multiple segments of vertebrae by CD orthosis such as CD, CD-Horison, TSRH, USS and so on.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Changes of Cobb angle, height, grafting bone fusion and cardiorespiratory function of patients after operation.RESULTS: After 12-month follow-up, 8 patients were involved in the result analysis. The incision of 8 patients was healed, no infection. Scoliolosis was corrected effectively, and the height increased by 5-8 cm. Cardiorespiratory function recovered satisfactorily after operation. Grafting bone was fused. The lost Cobb's angle was less than 25° after correction.CONCLUSION: CD orthosis can correct the lateral curvature and effectively correct that of patients combined with rotational deformity, consisting of large distraction, multiple segment frame style fixation, average distributed force placement, so it is not easy to have the complications such as release, broken stick and so on. Selective multiple segment fixation and derotation are adopted, so good three-dimension correction is gained, which can reconstruct satisfactorily trunk balance, prevent post-operative loss,with less complication, high fusion rate, less correction lost. External fixation is not needed after operation, which is helpful for early rehabilitation.
Surgical Treatment for Cervical Spine Fracture in Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis: Single Posterior Approach or Combined Anterior-posterior Approach?

Abstract:Study Design: A retrospective single-center study. Objective: We aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of cervical spine fracture accompanied with ankylosing spondylitis (ASCSF) treated by single posterior approach (PA) and combined anterior-posterior approach (CA) for patients who were followed up for >1 year, Summary of Background Data: For ASCSF patients, surgical treatment has been widely accepted as a recommendable therapeutic option. But the optimal surgical approach is still under controversy, and few studies have focused on the comparison between PA and CA. Materials and Methods: From February 2007 to March 2019, 53 patients were enrolled and divided into the PA group (34 cases) and CA group (19 cases). Their general characteristics and clinical materials were recorded. From the aspects of reduction distance, bone fusion, neurological functional restoration, and postoperative complications, patients’ surgical outcomes were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively. Results: The reduction degree of dislocation (mean PA=2.05 mm, mean CA=2.36 mm, P=0.94) was close between the 2 groups. Besides, with a similar follow-up period (P=0.10), the rate of bone fusion (both 100%) and neurological functional restoration (PA=31.03%, CA=35.29%, P=0.77) were also without significant difference. The occurrence rate of postoperative complications tended to be higher in the CA group (31.58% vs. 23.53%) but with no significant difference (P=0.52). Nevertheless, the surgical duration time (mean=209.15 min) and blood loss (average=388.91 mL) of PA group were significantly less than CA group (mean duration time=285.34 min, mean blood loss=579.27 mL) (P<0.01). Conclusions: Compared with to the CA approach and with the equally significant outcome, surgery by single PA was feasible and should be positively recommended for ASCSF patients, especially for those accompanying with a severe chin-on-chest deformity or poor physical conditions which restrain patients from tolerating a long surgery or major surgical trauma.
Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome Following Scoliosis Surgery: Its Risk Indicators and Treatment Strategy

Abstract:From July 1997 to October 2003, 640 patients with adolescent scoliosis who had undergone surgical treatment were evaluated prospectively, 7 patients of whom suffered from SMAS post-operatively. The height of the 7 patients who developed SMAS was above the mean of sex- and age-matched normal population, with the height percentile ranging from 5% to 50%. On the contrary, their weight was below the mean of the normal population with a weight percentile ranging from 5% to 25%. Among the 7 patients, 4 had a thoracic hyperkyphosis ranging from 55 degrees to 88 degrees (average 72 degrees ) and 2 had a thoracolumbar kyphosis of 25 degrees and 32 degrees respectively. The 7 patients were all treated with fasting, antiemetic medication and intravenous fluids, a nasogastric tube was passed and aspirations commenced. Reduction or suspense of traction was adopted in three patients who had SMAS during Halo-femoral traction after anterior release of scoliosis. All the patients recovered completely with no sequelae.
Pulmonary Dysfunction Patterns in Patients with Marfan and Marfanoid Syndrome Associated with Scoliosis and the Influencing Factors

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the impairment pattern and the influencing factors of pulmonary function in patients with Marfan and Marfanoid syndrome associated scoliosis (MS).METHODS:In this retrospective study, totally 25 MS patients (aged 11 - 20 years, 11 boys and 14 girls) who received posterior instrumentation and fusion (Group A) and 38 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients (Group B) (aged 10 - 19 years, 11 boys and 27 girls) were included from February 1998 to September 2007. The curve pattern was matched in both groups. The preoperative pulmonary function test (PFTs) were compared in two groups. And the parameters influencing the preoperative pulmonary function were analyzed in group A.RESULTS:In Group A, the Cobb angle of thoracic curve was negatively correlated with the percentage of predicted pulmonary volumes (VC%, FVC% and FEV1%) (r = -0.514, -0.503, -0.464, P < 0.05). And the reduction of lung function parameters (VC%, FVC%, FEV1% and MMEF%) was more severe in Group A than in Group B with compared magnitude of thoracic curve (P < 0.05). In Group A, the extent of impairment of pulmonary function in patients with the number of vertebrae involved ≥ 8 were more severe than those involved < 8 vertebrae (P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference of deterioration of lung function between the higher apex (T₄₋₈) subgroup and lower apex (T₉₋₁₂) subgroup. And no correlation was found between thoracic kyphosis and the degrees of impairment of respiration function.CONCLUSIONS:Patients with MS have mixed ventilation dysfunction, which is more severe than AIS patients with matched age and Cobb angle. The pulmonary dysfunction in MS patients can be influenced by the severity of thoracic curve and the number of involved vertebrae.

Abstract:Syringomyelia with coexisting intraspinal abnormities is thought to increase the risk of neurologic injury during surgical correction of the scoliosis. However, surgical treatment for intraspinal abnormities carries significant morbidity risks including worsening neurological function and wound complications. The authors’ aim in this study was to evaluate one-stage posterior correction of scoliosis in this patient population without prophylactic surgical treatment for neural axis malformations before scoliosis correction.

Abstract:Similar spinal deformities in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) usually accompany different anterior chest wall appearance. The surgical correction of the deformed chest wall is quite elusive despite excellent Cobb angle reduction. We wonder if the anterior chest wall deformity is independent in the severity on the co-development of spinal curvature, trunk torsion and vertebral rotation.
Marfan Syndrome: new diagnostic criteria, same anesthesia care? Case report and review

Abstract:Background: Marfan's Syndrome (MFS) is a disorder of connective tissue, mainly involving the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and ocular systems. The most severe problems include aortic root dilatation and dissection. Anesthetic management is vital for the improvement on perioperative morbidity. Case report: 61-year-old male with MFS, presenting mainly with pectus carinatum, scoliosis, ectopia lens, previous spontaneous pneumothorax and aortal aneurysm and dissection submitted to thoracoabdominal aortic prosthesis placement. Underwent routine laparoscopic cholecystectomy due to lithiasis. Important findings on preoperative examination were thoracolumbar kyphoscoliosis, metallic murmur on cardiac exam. Chest radiograph revealed Cobb angle of 70°. Echocardiogram showed evidence of aortic mechanical prosthesis with no deficits. Discussion: Preoperative evaluation should focus on cardiopulmonary abnormalities. The anesthesiologist should be prepared for a potentially difficult intubation. Proper positioning and limb support prior to induction is crucial in order to avoid joint injuries. Consider antibiotic prophylaxis for subacute bacterial endocarditis. The patient should be carefully positioned to avoid joint injuries. Intraoperatively cardiovascular monitoring is mandatory: avoid maneuvers that can lead to tachycardia or hypertension, control airway pressure to prevent pneumothorax and maintain an adequate volemia to decrease chances of prolapse, especially if considering laparoscopic surgery. No single intraoperative anesthetic agent or technique has demonstrated superiority. Adequate postoperative pain management is vitally important to avoid the detrimental effects of hypertension and tachycardia.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Spondylometaphyseal dysplasia (SMD) is a rare disease characterized by vertebral and metaphyseal abnormalities. The treatment of SMD spinal deformities remains a challenge for spinal surgeons. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of vertebral column resection of SMD by thoracolumbar kyphosis and scoliosis.CASE DESCRIPTION:A 23-year-old man with SMD was referred to us with multivertebral anomalies and scoliosis, and a rigid curved thoracolumbar kyphosis in T11-12. The patient had fixed thoracolumbar kyphosis and scoliosis with neurologic symptoms. The morphology of vertebra was measured and calculated based on radiologic data. A 3-dimensional printing was made to help the spinal orthopedics. The anterior fusion was made with cages reconstruction and posterolateral fusion with screw fixation.CONCLUSIONS:The spinal axes were corrected with obvious and satisfying realignment effects. The neurologic symptoms disappeared after surgery. The 1-year follow-up period was uneventful. Surgical treatment for SMD multiaxial spine malformation is feasible. Posterior column resection with segmental pedicle screw fixation and complementary fusion provides obvious curative effects for adult patients with neurologic complications.
Surgical treatment on Marfan syndrome accompanied with descending aortic aneurysms: an analysis of 16 cases

Abstract:Objective To summarize the surgical experiences in Marfan syndrome accompanied with descending aortic aneurysms.Methods The clinical data of 16 cases of Marfan syndrome accompanied with descending aortic aneurysms admitted between 1998 and 2005 in Shanghai Chest Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University were analyzed retrospectively.Results All the 16 cases had history of Marfan syndrome and 2 of them had an additional experience of Bentall operation.All the 16 cases underwent operations,including traditional operation in 12,fenestration in 2 and endovascular treatment in 2.Two cases died postoperatively and 1 of them died on the 10th day after the endovascular therapy.Thirteen cases were followed up for 4 months to 7 years,of which,1 died of rupture of the thoracic aortic dissection suddenly,and 2 were excellent.Six of 10 cases with hypertension preoperatively showed normal blood pressure,and the other 4 were controlled by medicine.Conclusion The aorta wall structures of the aneurysms accompanied with Marfan syndrome are more fragile than the normal patients and though a Bentall operation advanced.There is even likely recurrence of dissections and aneurysms.It could be treated with traditional operation primarily and the indication for the endovascular technique should be further discussed
Safety and Efficacy of Single-Stage Surgical Treatment for Congenital Scoliosis Associated with Intraspinal Mass

Abstract:For congenital scoliosis associated with intraspinal anomaly, surgical treatment is often advocated. However, the safety and efficacy of single-stage intraspinal mass resection and scoliosis correction remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the feasibility and risk factors of single-stage surgical treatment for congenital scoliosis associated with intraspinal mass. Patients’ clinical records were reviewed for demographic and radiographic data, operating time, intraoperative blood loss, perioperative complications, and postoperative pathologic results. Two female and 5 male patients with an average age of 19.14 ± 7.52 years (range, 11–31 years) were evaluated. Patients were followed for a minimum of 24 months after initial surgical treatment, with an average of 49.71 ± 32.90 months (range, 27–99 months). Spinal curvature was corrected from an average of 69.57 ± 20.44° to 29.14 ± 9.87°, demonstrating a mean correction rate of 55.05% ± 18.75%. No obvious loss of correction was observed at the final follow-up. Complications included transient neurologic deficit, cerebrospinal fluid leakage, and intraspinal mass recurrence in 1 patient each. There was no paralysis or permanent nerve damage. In conclusion, simultaneous intraspinal mass resection and scoliosis correction appears to be safe and effective.
Correction Of Scoliosis With Large Thoracic Curves In Marfan Syndrome: Does The High-Density Pedicle Screw Construct Contribute To Better Surgical Outcomes

Abstract:Background: The aim of this study was to determine whether higher density screw constructs resulted in better surgical out-comes in patients with scoliosis secondary to Marfan syndrome (MF-S) with large thoracic curves (>= 70 degrees).Material/Methods: There were 34 MF-S patients who met the inclusion criteria and were evaluated radiographically before surgery, 2 weeks after operation, and at the final follow-up. The mean screw density was taken as the boundary, and patients were categorized as either in the high density (HD) group or the low density (LD) group. Parameters measured included coronal Cobb angle, T5-T12 kyphosis (TK), and T12-S1 lordosis (IL). Additionally, the operation duration, estimated blood loss, screw accuracy, complication rate, and clinical outcomes were compared between the 2 groups.Results: The mean screw density of all patients was 1.40 +/- 0.15 (range 1.13 to 1.67). Correction rate of the thoracic curve was closely related to the screw density at the concave side (r=0.783, P=0.007). Intergroup comparison showed a significantly higher correction rate of the thoracic corona! curve in HD group (56.59 +/- 4.80% versus 44.54 +/- 9.61%, P=0.036). At last follow-up, coronal correction loss of >5 degrees occurred in 8 cases (47.1%) in the LD group and 3 cases (17.6%) in the HD group. Both groups demonstrated improvement in each domain of the SRS-22 questionnaire after surgery and no significant intergroup difference was found.Conclusions: The high-density pedicle screw construct contributed to the significantly improved correction rate of thoracic curves in MF-S patients with large thoracic curves (>= 70 degrees). Additionally, increasing of pedicle screw number could help to enhance the structural stability and reduce the correction loss during the follow-up period.

Abstract:Background: After surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), doctors should not only focus on the short-term surgical effect, but also pay special attention to whether the patients can live normally in the long-term. This work compared the long-term effects of thoracoscopy-assisted anterior spinal fusion (ASF) and posterior spinal fusion (PSF) in AIS.Methods: Twenty-two patients underwent thoracoscopy-assisted ASF, and twenty-three patients underwent PSF from 2004 to 2009 were involved , including 14 males and 31 females with an average age of 14.8±2.6 years, and all patients suffered from only Lenke type 1 AIS. The mean follow-up time was 102 months, the radiographic parameters and operation time, hospitalization time, fusion segments and estimated blood loss were evaluated. Comparisons between groups were made such as Cobb's angle, thoracic kyphosis, the instrumented levels, curve correction, preoperative parameters, SF-36/SRS-22 questionnaire scores, and pulmonary function.Results: There was no significant difference in age, gender, Risser sign and follow-up period between two groups. The instrumentation level had an average of 6 in the thoracoscopy-assisted ASF group and 9.7 in the PSF group (P<0.001). The average correction rate of the main curve was 67.4% in ASF group versus 79.2% in PSF group (P>0.05). The postoperative thoracic kyphosis was 16.2°±3.9° in ASF group and 25.6°±4.4° in PSF group (P=0.023). Patients had momentous advancement in self-image, vitality and mental health in the SRS-22 and SF-36 questionnaires. Compared to preoperatively, the pulmonary function of both groups was satisfactorily improved at the final follow-up.Conclusions: Since there was no statistically significant difference in the general conditions of the two groups selected for this study, so we finally concluded that thoracoscopy-assisted ASF had a satisfactory correction rate, famous long-term radiography outcomes and desirable pulmonary function results. However, compared to PSF, it has a longer operation time, a more complicated surgical procedure and a weaker three-dimensional correction effect, and PSF has affirmative long-term outcomes, fewer complications, and satisfactory sagittal balance, all of which make PSF the standard operation to treat AIS.
